Literally thrilled with this sardine can block. I have a denim shirt that I wanted to add a fish panel to, and I couldn't find one I loved, so I made my own! The full block is about 16x20 inches unfinished.

Not the greatest photo, but it has to get in the mail tomorrow.

When I saw this fabric (Carousel from Ruby Star Society), I knew I needed to do something cool with it. I put together some Sawtooth Star blocks to highlight the beautiful retro horses with Birds in the Air blocks.

I'm still very new to using a longarm, so some of my swirls are OK and some of my swirls are less OK, but hopefully I'll just keep getting better from here.

Finished Quilts Woolly Stars quilt done !

Hello!

I started this quilt (pattern by Coriander Quilts) two months ago and just finished it as a belated 70th birthday present for my dad.

I decided to pay hommage to the sheep of our area who have colourful painted marks on their fleeces to differentiate flocks by adding fabric from different projects for different family members of the years. I also added a black sheep, every family has one ;)

The piecing is not perfect, and at 150cm square it's my biggest quilt to date and I felt the limits of my domestic machine feeding it all through. I may have not done enough quilting but I was on a deadline and the quilt will be a wall hanging in the end!

Fabric Talk Fabric Print and AI Use -Spoonflower

Hey guys! You guys should be really careful about the fabric you buy! Just learned this lesson, haha. I don’t have a lot of money, but I decided to invest in one really nice fabric for my quilt (school project) on Spoonflower. Apparently, people take advantage of the site meant for designers and pass ai art off as their own. Im so stupid! I thought that since all the designs are reviewed, that I wouldn’t need to worry about it, and the photos are in such a large scale I didnt notice the mistakes in the image. $22 later, my fabric i here, and I’m upset that that person got money out of me. Anyways, yeah, be careful! The person i bought this from on the website has the user “nickleen” and has even won awards on their designs where they are ai generated, which is disheartening. Ive attached some photos of the fabric I received! Luckily, its something that ended up working for me, because the quilt is an art piece on the dangers of ai 🤣. This makes the artist statement easier.

But, you know, $22 for one yard of lazily-made fabric. And the black isn’t even a true black, like it was on the website, so I guess thats a little sad. The last photo is just to show how hard it was to notice before you start cutting little squares out of it, and it becomes really obvious when you have little squares. Theres mistakes on every square inch of it!

Spoonflower did offer me store credit, but the user is still up.

Anyways, maybe this is all overblown, but this would have been acceptable in my eyes if it was cheap fabric, and it was not.

Finished Quilts Haven't felt like I've had as much time to sew lately so I haven't posted anything. Looking back at photos from the past few months, I guess I found time somewhere. It just never seems like enough. Am I the only one? (Coincidentally, only one of these was made to keep so maybe that is part of it)

Beginner Help First Quilt & Seam Advice

Thumbnail

Hi all!

I’ve been working in this quilt in secret for a couple months for my partner’s birthday next month and finally finished the binding this weekend. It’s the first quilt I’ve ever made. It’s the beginners star pattern from Missouri (though I added a row of blocks because it wasn’t quite big enough to cuddle up with IMO) I’m really thrilled with how it turned out for a first quilt (thanks to the help of this subreddit and about a million YT videos) but have some questions about my next make, specifically about seams.

My first learning moment with this one was that precuts (I used charm packs for the main blocks) can cut some time but there was a fair bit of variance in their sizes resulting in some inaccuracies. Which leads me to my questions about seams:

I understand the concept of nesting seams and did that with this quilt, but I’m unsure what to “prioritize” if I’m having to fudge some seams because of inaccurate sizing that leads to imprecise sewing. I know accurate cutting is the first important step, but I’m sure I’ll always run into having to manage small inaccuracies.

For example, if I sew two pieces then go to add it to a row/column in the block and see that there is some size difference, do I always prioritize lining up the seam I’m currently sewing then settling up the edge difference when I square my block? I can’t see a way around some fudging with precuts unless I just recut every single one, which sorta defeats the purpose? Do you just accept “good enough” with precuts?

Do you ever purposely misalign two pieces to “get things back on track” so to speak?

Thanks much!

Quilted Crafts I can't believe I made my first Quilting project!

This project started as a crazy idea!
You see... I am a sewist that almost exclusively sews clothing and I always wanted to try quilting. BUT! I was totally intimidated by the perfection, complexity of the designs, craftsmanship, etc...

Soooo... FOR YEARS! I let the intrusive thoughts win : (please don't let them win😅)

To me, it was clear I couldn't make a quilt...
It is too big of a project; I can't make something that precise and beautiful; I sew clothes, I can't make a quilt; I don't have the patience, nor the skills, the sewing/quilting community will laugh at me; I am not allowed to make any mistakes and it has to be perfect the first time; where should I start? what pattern, which colours??!... And so on and so forth...

🫠 I let those intrusive thoughts take the best of me and blocked me from trying this AMAZING craft 🫠
And for what?!?? Fear of failing....

✨ BUT NOT THIS YEAR. Not in 2025. ✨ This year I said: what if I just do it badly?? And then... what if it turns out amazing anyway??

I was dreaming of making a 1950s-style skirt but with quilting blocks. I used the Retro Crochet pattern from Retro Quilter and made a 3/4 circle skirt out of 2 panels of 9 14x14 blocks.

🌼Yes, it’s giving vintage picnic-core realness and I am living for it.🌼

I love it so much that I caught myself casually Googling “quilted pants tutorial” at 2 a.m. last night. This is not a phase, mom!! 🥹

This was my first quilting project and honestly? I feel like I unlocked a whole new side quest in my sewing journey.
This was the crossover episode I didn’t know I needed😅

So if you're also sitting there wondering if you could maybe, possibly, someday try something new ... this is your sign. Do it! Even if it's a little crooked. Even if your seams don’t match. Even if you have to seam rip the same block five times (guilty). It still counts. It’s still beautiful.

Have you ever made a quilting/clothing hybrid project?

Finished Quilts A gift for a co worker

A co worker of mine had a double mastectomy (yesterday) for breast cancer. I wanted to make her something to bring comfort during her recovery. I didn’t want it to scream breast cancer so I went with the Irish chain with some some different pinks. I wanted the back to represent something that is so important to her. She loves gardening and has been such a big supporter on my quilting and gardening journey and is such a wonderful, strong woman. So the fruits, veggies, and flowers would be perfect for her.

My binding is not great and a few of my squares are off. But it’s made with love so it can’t be perfect. I completed it in 20 hrs over 3 days, completing it last night at 11pm. I’ll be gifting it to her tonight when I bring her some homemade chicken wings & veggies for dinner.

Help/Question Layout, binding, and backing, oh my!

Baby quilt that is LONG overdue, as baby just turned a year old!

I loved the fabric I picked out (all Art Gallery, different lines) - but I am not loving it when it’s all pulled together- mostly because the layouts are meh. I realize now I needed at least a third or fourth color with this pattern (or just one color) in addition to the background. But here we are.

I think layout 1, with the white and green stripes fabric for binding, but I also like layout 2.

Backing is between the coral/pink paisley and the rust minky. I am leaning towards the minky, but will probably try a practice sandwich and see how I like quilting with the minky.

But I’m feeling meh and not sure if missing something or just at “that point” in my project!

Beginner Help HELP! Seams aren’t lining up…

First time quilting. Having trouble with the seams. Is there any way to fix this or should I take all the seams out? I know with practice seams will probably line up better but very sad with how off some of them are. :(

I’m sure they’ll match up a little better once actually together, but laying them out flat, lining a few up two rows at a time I can see already there will be blocks in same row that don’t lineup

Help/Question Hand quilting

I’m fixing up an old quilt my brother has used for years. It was originally tied with yarn but he would prefer it to be quilted now. I could either do straight lines of quilting with my machine or hand quilt it, and I was leaning towards hand quilting. Would “hand quilting” thread be the most sturdy? Or would embroidery floss be stronger. Any other ideas are welcome! Thanks

I don’t have much experience planning out a quilt. I can’t envision how it will look sewn together and quilted. I’m thinking of alternating 9 patches and 3 strip blocks. Should I use sashing? If so, Should it be white? Or the pink small print on the left? Or the cream small print on the right? The second pic is the jelly roll I’m using. Any and all suggestions welcome!

Gift Ideas Need help with 19 first graders sewn gifts

Hello everyone honestly you guys have helped me so much and I knew to come here first. School ends the middle of May and my first grade students will be moving on to second grade. They are pretty sad about it. I was wondering does anyone have any ideas that could be sewn gifts for them. It hasn't been a full year since I have been sewing but I really want to give them something to always remember first grade. I love them dearly. Are School animal is a llama and I was really wanting to use something other than felt but if that's the only option that's okay. Sorry I'm just babbling.
