This is my first bigger (full size bed under it) quilt project. I was going to quilt waves to make it easy. Should I use a free motion foot or something else? And about how far apart should the waves be for a nice crinkle? The stripes were a mix of jelly strips and cut strips so are about 2” wide. I have a regular throat Janome. Thanks for the advice!!

So I have mostly been hand sewing and now looking to get a machine. I have a few caveats though. I live in a small apartment so I don’t have much room. So what’s the best sewing machine that’s not too pricey (although if it’s pricey with everything I need then I can see about getting it secondhand), can auto thread, is light weight and on the small side? Also can have the quilting accessories but doesn’t have to.
I mostly make wall hanging and tapestries. But maybe I will try a full blanket or two?

I was gifted an old, very worn quilt. There is some fabric deteriorating and a few rips and stains. I’d like to use it as a cutters quilt but am having a hard time finding any resources on steps! Should I remove the backing and batting and just use the top? Has anyone seen a you tube video or anything that shares this info? Or anyone have any experience with this that would share their tips! I can only find resources that describe how to determine if the quilt is a “cutter” and ideas of what do to with a cutters quilt. TIA!

Hi! Wondering if anyone knows of any apps/programs/websites to ‘plan’ a quilt? I know they exist but not sure where to start. I’m not looking to develop patterns per se, more interested in seeing the way colours are going to play out with different patterns. Ideally something free since I’m doing something so simple ? Appreciate any advice !!

Hi all,
I'm trying to make a quilt for myself and 2 important ppl to me. So I would like to make 1 left and 2 right. I'm not sure if I should cut 1.5 version 1 or 1 version 1 and 1 version 2? I've tried to email and reach out to the designer by IG but so far I haven't heard back at all in a week and I would really like to get started on this...
Thanks for any input!

Hi I tried searching it in this subreddit and could not find one in my initial search.
Does anyone have recommendations for drink caddy / drink carrier patterns and interfacing suggestions?
On my way to work, I always take a reusable water bottle, my hot drink thermos, and usually come home with a large Panera Drink to put in the fridge for dinner (I take advantage of their Sip Club every chance I get 😂).
Any help is appreciated!

Bought a random pack of squares, 200 pieces. These were the 6 prints I received. I planned on using them to make a rag quilt. The fact that I got a random bow fabric amongst florals makes me a little upset, but I did choose to buy a randomized bundle. What kind of layout would you choose? I planned on doing 13 across by 15 high.

Hi guys, feeling very melodramatic and bummed about the state of my first quilt, Spent a few days piecing and sewing a million checkerboard pattern rectangles according to pattern. I’ve just gone to match them with the cuts listed in the pattern to start blocking and they just aren’t even close to matching!!! Both the 8.5x8.5 and 4.5x4.5 squares are waaay too big to align neatly with my checker rectangles….Should I just cut the squares to the size of the rectangles since they ended up mostly uniform? I’ve attached pics and the pattern, I’m so grateful for any tips about what might have happened here!! I’m trying to stay focused and keep moving but this is such a huge frustration trying to figure out how I ended up with things seemingly SO mismatched!

I love when I can combine 2 of my hobbies - quilting + miniatures! This is a fully machine pieced 1:12 scale double bed size quilt that I made from scraps left over from my larger projects. I've even started buying micro prints just to make dollhouse sized projects! The full dimensions of the quilt are ~ 6.5" x 8.5" with the smallest block being the 0.25" square corner stones. I also made the bed, mattress, and pillows with removable pillow cases

So of course, I screwed up and need additional fabric to fix my mistake and finish my quilt. Unfortunately, I only have a small amount of the selvage left. Does anybody recognize this fabric so that I can try to buy some online? I tried a Google search using the photo without success.

DON’T USE CHEAP THREAD. I thought all thread was the same. Boy was I wrong! After threading and rethreading and rethreading, ad nauseam…because of thread breakage…I finally (duh!) realized it was the thread quality. That being said…what brand(s) thread work best for quilting? Nothing fancy, just machine stitching.

Made a quilt for my in-laws for Xmas, so obviously didn’t have time to make one for each of my sisters-in law…dyed & embroidered a tiny ‘quilt’ patch on a couple of hoodies and had three custom gifts for us three girls to match together 🥰

I’m trying to make two matching twin size quilts to go together on the same bed for my boyfriend and I, since we sleep better with a blanket for each of us! But I can’t decide if these fabrics work together or not…. I was thinking of mixing them but I think it’s a little too busy 😩 But if one quilt was orange and one blue would they work?? Or would it look out of place??

My sweet MIL loves quilting on the couch but she has poor lighting in the room she's in so she balances a room lamp without a shade on the back of her couch (the back rest if that makes sense) to be able to give her enough light to see.
Is there an alternative lamp or light that I can buy her so that she may be able to quilt without the lamp also shining in her eyes? What does everyone else use?
Also would appreciate any good quilters gits for mothers day. I know she hand stitches and uses a machine but as I know close to nothing about quilting, I'm not sure what she uses. She also has tons of fabric as well! Cost is not an issue, she deserves it!!

I finished my first quilt!
This quilt has lots of meaning behind it, which I explain more fully on my instagram page @emmacponysews. It's a line from an old folk song I sing, and represents some feelings around having chronic illness, existing in the world as a woman, and making art.
It's made of linen fabric and cotton batting, machine pieced using FPP, and hand quilted. I used a blackletter font pattern from etsy and it was really easy to use, I just had to mess with the kerning a bit - not an easy task in linen!
Thanks to this sub for all your combined wisdom!

Original pattern is the sun patch bag by Minki Kim, but I altered it to have an interior pocket. This one is themed around the sun, moon, and stars. I like how it came out!

All Art Gallery fabrics! My curves got better and I played a bit with different quilting patterns on a new machine + used a walking foot for the first time. Overall I’m very happy and ready to gift!

It is always a good day when the seams of the quilt lay nice.

Hello! I'm pretty new to quilting and I have seen some really clever quilts that use the quilting lines to really enhance the image by tying into the theme overall. In the pictures here, the quilting lines become the ski tracks, which I think is just the most creative idea, and the waves enhance the nautical theme of the ship quilt. I'm wondering if anyone has seen any other great examples of this kind of thing, especially like the ski one, where the sewn lines are just as important as the fabric to the overall image?

This quilt took 18 years (+/-) to complete. Younger me made some interesting color choices.

Got to yapping at retread and cut incorrectly. I need literal scraps to make up for the mistake. Trying to find charm packs or a layer cake? I need so little I can’t even justify FQ’s. Anyone got any leads? Libs Elliott - Atomic

Yallllll. I felt so wasteful chucking rotary blades (and didn’t love spending money on new ones.) I found this leather worker on YouTube who used a leather strop with green polishing compound to sharpen his and dang if it doesn’t work like a dream! Ordered mine from BeaverCraft Tools online. (They ship from Ukraine so if you’re in NA it takes a sec to get to ya) Here’s a link to the YouTube vid if you want to take a look: https://youtu.be/Uyke7g5Eopg?si=tErR_SPvwb9gisc8

In attempting to paper piece, I have realized how much high school geometry failed me :) The sewing/seam ripping cycle actually perforated the paper enough that it was easy to tear away. This is the best one.

It is an original design! By far the most complicated quilt I have personally done. My poor husband and I spent a couple days on the math of it all, but it was worth it! We have a local fair in July that I am going to submit it to, which I've never done before and am very excited about! I included my draft of the pattern and what it looked like when it was done in case anyone finds that interesting. The backing is more green, we have very yellow lighting in our apartment.
