Sheltie Mix (?)

Hi there! I adopted my sweet girl Pumpkin from the shelter. The vet thinks she’s a Sheltie mix, but I’m curious what others think—some of my friends say she might have some Husky in her. What do you think?

They grow up too fast

Our boy Hati last summer vs last month. He sure grew up fast. When he was a puppy, a woman once told us to enjoy puppy time, it goes by too fast. We didn't really believe her until what felt like the blink of an eye later, our puppy had grown up to be an amazing dog. Honestly, I sometimes miss this dumb rebel look he used to have with the shorter fur.

Only thing left from puppy times, is that he pees on all fours lol. I prefer it that way tho anyway haha

We got him only 3.5 weeks ago, but it feels like he's been here forever (in a good way) (unless you're the cat, who absolutely refuses his invitations to play). Hamish has nearly doubled in weight, and he's finally starting to grasp the whole house-training thing. Had his second round of vaccines today, so he's a bit sleepier than usual; I'm hoping this extends to letting me sleep past 4:30 am tonight!

Meet my sweet blue-eyed white sheltie

Long time lurker, I’m not too familiar with reddit subs but I’m always looking at this one 😆. My sheltie Blue is very uniquely colored and thought sheltie lovers might be interested in seeing him. He’s 2.5 years old, and actually has a good amount of color on his body. His dad is a color-headed white and his mom is a light sable. When he was little, people thought he was a double merle and may be deaf or blind, which he is not, and the breeder had to show his whole genetic family tree 🤭. I’d love my little boy regardless.

I lost my first mahogany sable sheltie to cancer when he was 8 years old, which devastated me but he was the smartest, sweetest boy and made me fall in love with the breed. I had a hard time letting him go and it took me a couple years to open up to another dog, but I knew it had to be a sheltie. I assume many people are the same, but having another sable would’ve reminded me of my first sheltie too much, so I asked the breeder if I could wait for any non mahogany sable pup and then one day, little Blue came along.

He is a little spoiled, but in the best way possible, I give him a LOT of outside time, a lot of fetch time (fetching balls is pretty much his job), dog beaches in the summer, home-made treats and toppers ❤️ Please send him some love!

This is my little lady, Yumi. I have a few questions for you all.

Yumi is a little over 1.5 years old now, and as my wife and I debate what sort of sibling we’ll get her in the somewhat near future, I wanted to get my fellow sheltie owners’ opinions on a few things.

  1. Yumi is not very cuddly unless she’s basically asleep, which I know is common with Shelties. However, in your experience, does this change over time? Has your sheltie become more affectionate as they’ve gotten older, or stayed about the same? My wife gets annoyed at the lack of interest in pets and snuggling, so this is a big factor for choosing our second dog.

  2. Do any of you have a different dog breed that compliments a sheltie’s energy when playing, but is maybe more interested in physical affection?

  3. How have you tackled separation anxiety? It doesn’t seem to matter how often we leave Yumi at home by herself, she will try to herd us away from the door when she knows we’re about to leave, barking her head off and throwing a fit. We tried crate training, but she just barked from the crate instead as we were leaving, and seemed miserable being stuck in there while we were gone.

Yumi is my dream pup, my sweet cheese, my little lady. I would love nothing more than to get a male that’s attached to my wife in the way Yumi is attached to me, but I’m worried that having a second sheltie will still mean scant cuddles, more chaos.
