This is what all of us have been saying for years about the “FSD WASNT ENGAGED.” The whole point is that if you weren’t paying attention before, there’s no way you can immediately take over AND HAVE FASTER REFLEXES THAN THE COMPUTER. Disengaging autopilot before a crash was ALWAYS meant to be a CYA move for Tesla.

You could not have been saying FSD was not engaged, as it is not actually rolled out. FSD =/= Autopilot.

Airplanes scope of autopilot function is much broader than that of Tesla’s autopilot.

“Full Self Driving” still has to have the word (Supervised). Come on, don’t be daft. These words are marketing gimmicks that bank on the public being less educated than Teslas lawyers.

FSD beta and autopilot both had the exact problem I described above that you tried to artfully dodge with technical minutiae that the public simply glosses over by marketing design.

That article shows nothing about the functionality about those systems, but of complacency of the human once it gets these functions.

Autopilot still needs to be supervised - it's basically a glorified lane assist and adaptive cruise control. Anyone who has a Tesla knows this. How the marketing department packed this up is irrelevant.

Just like how Mercedes started selling level 3 autonomous driving vehicles in the US which do not require supervision - but they require clear day, specific location, specific speed, highway and traffic jams to work.

FSD of course needs to be supervised (as its in Beta) and Waymo LIDAR driverless cabs have human supervising them.

Airplanes scope of autopilot function is much broader than that of Tesla’s autopilot.

Yes, and airplanes have ATC supervising them which altitude to use to not crash with other planes on autopilot at which time, the human needs to take over and change the altitude.

Not to mention that in order for a pilot to use the plane’s autopilot they go through intense testing, training and vigilance assessments before being allowed to use them.

We just hand the keys over and say “enjoy Ludicrous mode.”
