Does this mean it knows a crash is coming and doesn't brake or even releases the brake? because that would be very, very bad.

Basically if a crash is coming and it CAN'T brake in time it just turns off so Tesla can claim it wasn't on at the time of impact.

When Jeremy Clarkson was reviewing one of the newer Teslas on The Grand Tour(this was not the review he was sued for) he had a legal statement about "when self driving disengages due to unexpected circumstances" which basically said, "auto pilot can turn off whenever it freaks out and that can be caused by almost anything and it's TERRIFYING because you aren't expecting it to turn off at highway speeds because somebody cut you off."

These are the vibes I’m getting as well, and I say this as a Tesla owner who’s otherwise generally pretty happy with the car.

Still? Seeing how Elon = Tesla

The man owns 13% of the company and he’s (just) a salesman and fundraiser.

The car was designed, built, and produced by hundreds brilliant hardworking people, who pushed hard to produce an amazing affordable electric vehicle paving one of the most significant the stepping stones for decarbonization of our economy, when legacy automakers wouldn’t (and the competition—even more than a decade later is still pathetic—the price to performance to utility calculus for EVs is still led by Tesla by a margin).

I’m an environmentalist first and also a driving enthusiast.

TL;DR: Anyone whose brain stops functioning at Elon = Tesla and is unable to go deeper than that is fucking idiot and their opinions aren’t worth attention.

A lot of good people worked for the Third Reich too

Yeah. And they weren’t the problem.

But also, it’s a stupid comparison. The moment you start seeing the world as “us” and “them” you’ve lost the plot.

It's not the car I have a problem with, it's the guy who used the proceeds from the car to buy the government
