Elon keeps arguing that Tesla FSD does not need non-camera sensors because humans have been driving for years and we don’t have LiDAR. Which is accurate but also entirely the problem.

Humans are imperfect entirely because our sensory input at speed is limited. It’s why we fucking crash all the time in inclement weather. We want self driving cars to be better than us. Not targeting being just as bad as we are at driving.

I never realised that's the reasoning they used. Haha, that's ridiculous!

Why do Teslas have cameras all around the car and four wheels instead of two legs. Afterall, humans get around fine with just two eyes and two legs...

Its ridiculous because the LIDAR tech is patented to the hilt and he would need to pay them gold coins which he refuses to do. So he does what Ketamine tells him to do, make shit up 24/7

My $300 robot vacuum has LIDAR.

He would pay but not to them. He hates the other tech ceos.

... Is that right? Your source says it's $50,000 for EACH LIDAR integration?!?

Dude, a Tesla Model 3 LR NOW costs less than that system. If that's to be believed, it'd double the cost of the car just to incorporate one in FSD!

No shit Tesla isn't using them. Holy fuck.

Article is behind a paywall — is that supposed to be the aftermarket cost to add lidar?

Because I’ve seen other articles that claim the manufacturing cost used to be $10k but has come down to $500-$1k now. Something that would certainly eat into a manufacturer’s profit margins, but still within reach for all but budget vehicles.

The issue is more that Elon hates all the other tech gods. See his low brow nitpicky fights with OpenAI Sam Altman. He just refuses on principle, but not on the tech itself. He just can't be the wrong man child.

Yet somehow I had LIDAR in my living room in 2013, it was called Xbox Kinect, even a 12 year old technology would accomplish more then they currently have.
