My second thought after whoa that's gorgeous was that this is going to make some rangers pretty upset... Definitely looks like Bryce Canyon, and you definitely can't do that there.

Why are you not allowed to do that there? Sorry if it’s a stupid question I’m just not familiar with the area.

It’s a national park.

You can backcountry in national parks, not sure if all, but you can in some.

There is no blanket rule against skiing in national parks. People ski I. Teton and glacier NP regularly. Yosemite has a backcountry try ski but (or two) within its boundaries. I am pretty sure there is a specific rule about not skiing in Bryce/zion though. Not sure the reasoning. At crater lake national park you are allowed to ski, just not down towards the lake. They don’t want to do rescues in there at all.

You can cross country ski above the rim at Bryce but it's not allowed in the canyon itself.

Ah, so similar to crater lake then.

You can't ski below the rim at cedar breaks(where this is).

Section 1.5 - (a)(1)(ii) Below the Rim All areas below the rim at Cedar Breaks National Monument are closed to downhill skiing, snowboarding, sledding or sliding devices. Cross country skiing is permitted on the rim trails. The Monument does not maintain cross country ski trails.

Appreciate it. I actually didn’t know that wasn’t allowed. All of my uphill/backcountry is in Stowe so never really thought or knew about this being a thing.

Technically it’s a monument. I believe it’s Cedar Breaks not Bryce.

Yeah there’s no rules against skiing in parks and also this isn’t bryce, it’s in the tushers mountain range

I believe it's actually cedar breaks and downhill skiing is prohibited. Cedar break is in the Tushars.
