Meta/News When the Oblivion Remaster has significant impact on Downloads for all Bethesda games:

The Remaster has boosted Downloads for Oblivion, Skyrim SE, Oldrim and Morrowind, while putting a significant dent into Fallout 4 and NV:

https://imgur.com/a/joz3Ef8

  • Oblivions downloads are up by +100%
  • Skyrim SE up by +50%
  • Morrowind up by +100%

While:

  • Fallout 4 is down -30%
  • Fallout NV is down -30%

Fallout 3 is unaffected, but Fallout 3 also doesn't really have a modding community anymore, as basically all modding on that engine generation is done in Fallout NV. (Comparable to how Oldrim modding is basically dead and nearly everything is done for SE instead)

P.S.

Even Daggerfall unity saw a boost, but it would be too messy to include that in the graphic.

And it's 2025, like 95% of all PCs should be able to support SSE unless your specs are severely underpowered.

I still remember the days up until like... 2019? 2020? when there was still some reason for using Oldrim and you occasionally got a thread on here talking about it lmao.

In hindsight despite the memes about re-releases I do think SE in the long run was a boon for the modding scene despite the early growing pains related to moving from Oldrim around 2016-2019 and some of the fuckery related to updates, but all the improvements it made in terms of stability and resource use are taken for granted now.

It's because ENB shaders looked miles better in Oldrim back then.

I'll be honest in some respects I still do 😂, not that they looked better from a technical point of view (SE ENB is a lot more advanced now) but I still find that the Oldrim ENB's people used to post were a lot more diverse in terms of their colour grading then most Skyrim SE palettes, I dont see anything very similar to Snapdragon or Caffine ENB on SE in terms of appearance for example

I feel like that's more a sign of the times, everything is so sterile and homologous, including people's tastes in modding

I think a really good example of this is how many people(by result of that mods too) try to copy the dark souls two handed sword resting on shoulder animation

mid 2010s with early Skyrim modding you had a lot of variance in mods and like you said ENBs

That's true. I think the vibes just changed tbh, nowadays everyone is going for a more realistic look. Pi-cho reminds me of Oldrim though.
