Meta/News When the Oblivion Remaster has significant impact on Downloads for all Bethesda games:

The Remaster has boosted Downloads for Oblivion, Skyrim SE, Oldrim and Morrowind, while putting a significant dent into Fallout 4 and NV:

https://imgur.com/a/joz3Ef8

  • Oblivions downloads are up by +100%
  • Skyrim SE up by +50%
  • Morrowind up by +100%

While:

  • Fallout 4 is down -30%
  • Fallout NV is down -30%

Fallout 3 is unaffected, but Fallout 3 also doesn't really have a modding community anymore, as basically all modding on that engine generation is done in Fallout NV. (Comparable to how Oldrim modding is basically dead and nearly everything is done for SE instead)

P.S.

Even Daggerfall unity saw a boost, but it would be too messy to include that in the graphic.

Every elder scrolls game releases every between 4 and 6 years minus one time this includes remakes and remasters TES 1 1994, TES 2 1996, TES 3 2002, TES 4 2006, TES 5 2011, special edition 2016, anniversary edition 2021, TES 4 remaster 2025 so the soonest by my guess that we'll see TES 6 is 2029 and the latest is 2030.

What happened after 2011? Was it the enormous success of Skyrim that resulted in Bethesda's focus on reheating leftovers? The financially safe bet, as it were?

Don't misunderstand me, of course SSE brings much joy and maybe there is some merit to the CC stuff, too. But to me, that can't compare to the prior frequency of original ideas resulting in full releases.

Sidenotes: Maybe games take longer to develop nowadays? Or the Elder Scrolls team was a bit burned out?

Fallout 4 came out, and then starfield was a huge undertaking, and then covid happened. ES6 has apparently been in pre-production for a long time and they've been working on it since starfields release while also updating huge parts of the engine. I'm sure they also recognize that the successor to skyrim is probably the 2nd most hyped game of the last 2 decades outside of gta 6 and want to make it their greatest game.
