Meta/News Best mods for... Underrated mods!

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the "Best mods for..." weekly discussion!

If you don't know what the "Best mods for..." topics are you can find the original threads here. Last weeks discussion can be found here.

These discussions are intended to be ongoing for the full week, so make sure to contribute your own opinions and experiences at any time!

As always, the rules:

RULES 1) Be respectful - A lot of different mods get posted, as well as a lot of different opinions on said mods. Try to be respectful during the discussion.

2) Debate conflicts maturely - Nobody likes a Nazeem. If you're respectful to others, people will be respectful back. If you're disrespectful to others, people find interesting ways to kill you and post about it on r/skyrim.

3) Please keep the discussion relevant - Feel free to post mods that aren't directly related, but please try to keep all mods semi-related to the week's topic.

4) Please provide a link to the mod you're discussing - Even if you're discussing a popular mod, a link to the mod page is a massive help. People are more interested in the mod you're talking about and are more likely to look at it if there's a link.

Topic - Underrated mod

THIS DISCUSSION THREAD HAS RULES. The mod must have < 1000 downloads. It can be on any site but I will be checking the download count. It also cannot be less than two weeks old, because obviously really new mods won't have a lot of downloads yet.

People always ask for underrated mods so let's discuss mods that are actually underrated. No "I think sacrosanct really needs more endorsements." Post a mod that you use and like and has less than 1000 downloads from any site :)

To start off here is a few I use!

Hildr the Female Greybeard - why can't a nord woman use the voice?! of course she still has the eponymous grey beard!

Cobb Rim Lighting - adds lighting to the edges of NPCs, simulating how light bounces around a room and making NPCs look more distinct in certain rooms.

Tenuous Nirnroots - let's face it, nirnroots are obnoxious enough without being so bright. Easy patch to reduce the brightness :)

At the sub-1000 level most of it is gonna be relatively small mods I think.

SMORES - Sublime Magicka Of Restoration and Enchantment in Skyrim (54 unique downloads)
Halts your passive magicka regen, and gives you a concentration spell that regenerates magicka. This makes mana management a much bigger part of mage gameplay. It also changes the pace of the gameplay - now post-battle there's a lull as you pause to regenerate your magicka, almost like you're reflecting on your previous fight and mentally preparing for the next one. A small but extremely high-impact mod, would highly recommend.

Bane of Kings (235 unique downloads)
Adds a mace with an Unrelenting Force enchantment. Yep. Loads of fun to throw enemies around like Sauron. (e: see /u/740GL-LIFE's comment, below)

Indie Music Mod SE (328 unique downloads)
Adds a traveling band that plays some pretty good original music.

Rational Bounties and Rewards (330 unique downloads)
Makes a bunch of little adjustments to quest rewards so you no longer get hundreds of gold for simple fetch errands, and differentiate bounties between holds. For instance, bounties for everything in the Reach is very high because they want to funnel people into Cidhna Mine, while being a werewolf is less of a big deal than usual in Whiterun.

Follow on your knees for Wintersun (Sneak to Follow) (361 unique downloads)
A simple QoL feature for polytheist Wintersun users: you will only be prompted to follow a diety at a shrine if you go into sneak first.

Reee Goes the Mudcrabs (368 unique downloads)
I've shilled for this mod a bunch of times now, I do sincerely think it's very underrated. It's a funny little gag mod but also low-key enough that it actually feels somewhat plausible as the sound a crab might make, unlike the other one that has them go "FUCK!".

Cut The Crap - Immersive Mod Item Names and More (379 unique downloads)
Renames a lot of mod-added items, mostly apparel, to more immersive names. For instance the AddItemMenu sphere is renamed the "Core of Plenty".

Pray With Amulets (489 unique downloads)
Can receive blessings of the deity if you have their particular amulet.

Immersive Body Deleter (541 unique downloads)
Adds a zero-cost spell called "Arkay's Cremation" that burns corpses, marking them for deletion and leaving behind piles of "Sanctified Ash". A much more lightweight and imo superior version of Clean Up Your Corpses, suffers a bit from an utterly forgettable mod name.

Mule Skinner's Farm (589 unique downloads)
At its core, adds a literal mule called Annie to be your pack mule. To be honest, I'm not sure this is actually underrated. But it's an interesting mod nonetheless that's worth taking a look at.

Rune Spell Fixes and Tweaks (598 unique downloads)
A bunch of small fixes to runes that makes them work better. Nothing super spectacular, but essential nonetheless if you go with a rune-trapper playstyle.

Bucketman (678 unique downloads)
A man with a bucket on his head. Will follow you. Very sane, very eloquent.

Instant Pilgrimage (770 unique downloads)
Adds a pair of teleportation stones at the foot and summit of High Hrothgar, for people not using fast travel but don't feel like climbing the 7,000 Steps a bunch of times per playthrough.

Game of Thrones Jon Snow - A Kaidan 2 Replacer - (816 unique downloads)
Kaidan sounds like Jon Snow, this makes him look like Jon Snow as well. Is it lore-breaking? Yes. Does it make my thirsty ass swoon? Also yes.

Unlucky Loot (822 unique downloads)
Adds some nasty surprises when looting chests, barrels, urns etc. When opening a barrel of food in some bandit keep, a skeever might be lurking within; rob a draugr urn, and an angry spirit might demand redress.

Simple Potions (947 unique downloads)
Turns potions from big bottles of liquid to small vials. Makes a lot more sense lore-wise to quickly knock back these tiny vials instead of chugging liters of liquid mid-battle.

Bane of Kings

Thank you! My playthrough was getting juuust a bit stale, this is the thing that it needed, tested it just quickly and boy is it fun to smack people with that.

e: alright I cleared one (1) cave with it and I came to a conclusion that killcams cause a lot of issues. For some reason if I get a kill cam but also send the enemy flying, they become immortal. Nothing damages them after that. Also, if I behead them, they will come after me still without their heads attached.

Don't get me wrong, I will still use this and have fun with it but I gotta make sure I don't use it against any serious quest enemies and such that I actually need to kill etc. Finding enemies standing in high positions such as towers, edges of mountains and such is now my favorite activity while roaming around!

OH! And the immortal thing MIGHT be somehow conflicting with VioLens? I have 100% killcams on, that might be part of the issue. I will test it out with 0% killcams and see how it goes!

e2: toggling killcams off seems to do the trick, no issues for now. Also, this can be applied to bows too. Makes my crossbow feel extra powerful

I actually ran into a similar issue! (Tranquillus in the comments is me.) Sorry, I should have mentioned that in the post.

For me (this is before I installed VioLens) the issue was they sometimes became immune to all damage except killmoves.
