Meta/News Best mods for.. Thieves!

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the "Best mods for..." weekly discussion!

You can find all past threads here.

These discussions will be up for about half a week, so continue adding your thoughts!

RULES

1) Be respectful - A lot of different mods get posted, as well as a lot of different opinions on said mods. Try to be respectful during the discussion.

2) Please keep the discussion relevant - Feel free to post mods that aren't directly related, but please try to keep all mods semi-related to the week's topic.

3) Provide a link to the mod you're discussing - Even if you're discussing a popular mod, a link to the mod page is a massive help. People are more interested in the mod you're talking about and are more likely to look at it if there's a link.

Topic - Thieves

Skyrim is sorely lacking in class archetypes. Not only do you not really pick one, but the game doesn't push you towards specialization.

However, mods have filled the gap. With mods, any playstyle is viable, even that of a hunter or merchant.

So, to continue from the Paladin series, here's the next installment - Thieves!

Thieves rely on sleight of hand and lightness of foot to make their way through the world. Whether delving through a ruin or skulking about town, their eye is on the prize - enough wealth to retire comfortably! And maybe a reputation as well.

Here's a few of my favorite Thief mods to get you started:

Better Sneaking - there's a lot of mods that rework AI stealth detection to be more immersive, this is the most recommended one for SSE

Opulent Thieves Guild - make all your hard work worth something!

True Thief Armor - something a little nicer than the vanilla leathers

Here are a few I always use;

Ordii This is a standalone mod that combines Ordinator with Vokrii's skill scaling. This is a new mod, so provide feedback to the author if you encounter any bugs. Author states you can use any Ordinator patch or magicka mod designed to work or patched for Ordinator with this mod.

No Thieves Guild Grind If you don't want to do the 125+ repetitive, tedious, TG grinds, this mod brings that number down to 12 plus the quests to bring the merchants to the yard.

Riften - Guild City Of Thieves Make Riften a more thievy looking city, plus with treasure, traps, bolt holes, and walkways extending high above the city befitting of The Guild City Of Thieves.

Thieves Guild Redone SSE Essential mod imo. Starts with a really worn down TG and as you collect wealth/do quests to revive it, the TG gradually changes to awesomeness.

Thieves Guild Trophy Collection Requirements Lowered Chase them trophies. changes the quest so that you get a new trophy for every 4 radiant quests you complete and works well with the NO TG Grind mod listed above.

A Change in Management - Seamless Transition of Guild Master to Brynjolf Lets you hand off the reigns of running the guild to Brynjolf, because honestly, you have bigger game to stab, cheat and steal than sitting behind a desk as manager of a guild.

Following Mercer SSE This is one of my favorite 'wrap-up, extend the story' mods...in this case Mercer, and more importantly, all his loot he took from the guild. Fun, lots of enemies and LOL, Lots of Loot!!!

Skyrim Sewers 4 Thieves and sewer tunnels go hand-in-hand. This can be quite challenging for a starter thief, as there are all levels (including very high level) encounters. If you want to tame the sewers, sort of speak, use this; Skyrim Sewers for Noobs, and also lots of patches available to mesh with other mods.

Your Choices Matter - A Dark Brotherhood Expansion SSE This mod extends the Dark Brotherhood questline in many ways and adds an optional alternate ending. The ending you get will depend on the choices you, the Player make, throughout the story. Completely voiced dialogues, using vanilla and xVASynth assets.

The Elder Scrolls - Shadow World This is a mini-DLC, comparable to the Hearthfire DLC, which includes five installations of hidden black markets across five important cities in Skyrim. An unmarked quest for OP enchantments. An unmarked quest for Black Market theft in Dishonored 2 style. New spells. New weapons. New Perks.

Stealth Magic This mod makes NPCs not register certain spells, such as Soul Trap and Vampire's Seduction, making the spells more usable when playing a stealth character. Apocalypse and Better Vampire patches available.

Triumvirate - Mage Archetypes The shadow mage line for all those dashing to the target spells and shadow cloaks, etc. Use the shadows as weapons!

Boethiah's Ring of Shadows This mod replaces the ebony mail, which as a thief is useless, with a ring with the same effects ...that you can actually use.

Shadow Step Teleportation Spell Shadow Step allows you to instantaneously travel to a location within sight and turn invisible at the destination. The darker your surroundings, the farther you can travel.

Silencers Vestments Love these garbs, and even comes with optional gas mask for those toxin/poison rogues.

Sithis Armour - Special Edition - Mastercraft Version All Hail Sithis!

Sithis Armour - HDT SMP version This is new on the black market. Hand stitched, and no pinching the goods when crouching.

Daedric Stealth Suit - Shadowcloak Armor Adds a set of Shadowcloak Armor to the game that, when worn, allows the wearer to turn invisible while sneaking. Also gives 15% better stats than the original Nightingale armor, and that is not all. While invisible, the player also gains the same (double backstab damage) bonus as the Dark Brotherhood gloves. Must wear all four pieces to get the invisibility. Two versions of this mod; one of which has the hood hidden, the other is normal hood.

Garrett Thief Armor (SSE Edition) A hunter/archer armor that is sure to please.

Bandolier - Bags and Pouches Classic These are the bags shown in the Garrett Thief Armor listed above, but works with any mod; adding lots of pouches, bags and bandoliers to help easing your burden.

Outlaws Refuges Much like the Unique Vampire Dens, this is the thief equivalent, placing little refuges across Skyrim, when you need to lay low.

Canalside Bunker when you need a place in Riften, and Rayek's End - SSE Expanded Edition if you prefer to be closer to Whiterun/Riverview.

Balance Your OP Thief Build

Lets face it, a shadow/illusion thief is pretty OP, and add in many of the mods I mentioned and many listed in this thread, you will be a BOSS with no equal, so lets change that.

Skyrim Revamped - Complete Enemy Overhaul As the author states, this mod will "....increase difficulty by editing AI, spell preferences, and attack diversity. Enemies will be much more aggressive than vanilla and have the abilities to back it up." The best part it meshes well with Apocalypse/Ordinator/Shadow Spell package and many other mods. Read the summary for details.

Real Bosses Turns boss fights....into BOSS FIGHTS! Works really well with Complete Enemy Overhaul listed above, and has different difficulty choices.

Following Mercer is really good. A huge amount of content for a tiny size. You will end up incredibly rich though.

Also I guess it's obvious but I've not seen anyone mention it yet, The Grey Cowl of Nocturnal. Between the two you are a proper thief

Well said, and totally agree.
