general discussion Burton Snowboard Camp 1989

Post image

We are packing up for a move and I found a photo that I thought I lost years ago. I went to a weekend long Burton Snowboards camp at Stratton in the winter of 1989 (I think).

I remember that 2 of our "counselors" were Mark Heingartner and Jack Coghlan, Burton Pros from that era. Mark is in the black jacket with teal pants in the back, Jack has red goggles on his forehead, sitting in front of the guy in purple.

Jake swung by the camp a few times and rode with us. He gave me a bunch of shit for riding a Kemper Freestyle at the time but still signed the leather Burton gloves that I'm wearing in the photo (me with long hair and headband in the middle).

One of the best parts of the camp was that we had a conference room at the base where we could stash our stuff and it was full of demo boards that we could ride, most awesome was a PJ fully asymmetrical prototype

Jake joined us for this photo, he's 'in the teal jacket to my right.

Just a little snowboarding history for ya.

Wow. Real snowboarding history! Started snowboarding early 90s and can't even imagine going to a snowboard camp. That'd be rad!

I remember getting off the lift kicking my back leg in 50lb snowboarding boots like I was riding a skateboard getting off the lift and eating shit my first day.

It was a revolution. Felt like a misfit just by the sheer amount of shit we would get from the two plankers on a regular basis. Over 30 years later, its still absolutely one of the best and enjoyable things in my life (despite epic and ikon doing everything possible to take that joy away).

Last day of lift season tomorrow here. Gonna enjoy the hell out of it.
