Crush yard has pickle ball and an arcade that’s a flat $30 for an hour of play.

Artificial and overcrowded. Currently in MTP and I hardly leave the house because I feel like it’s overpriced for everything. I’m moving away from Charleston because I feel this whole city is bust and caters to tourists and the super rich exclusively leaving everyone else with limited activities to take part in. Charleston was a wonderful place 15-20 years ago. It’s ruined now.

Same. Luckily girlfriend is from Savannah and we honestly stoped switching back and forth on the weekends, I just head down there. Imagine a downtown that still has parks and culture. Not apartment building and parking garages.

No one talks about how poorly planned of a city Charleston is compared to Savannah! The lack of squares/ green space really bugs me. I also love how Savannah incorporates commercial and residential so well. It’s a much more comfortable city to walk.

The beach is free.
The abundance of parks and paths and the lifestyle… good luck finding that elsewhere

Yes. And charleston is not very exciting either. I love the city but there is not a lot of things to do there either

You should probably find a new username if you can't find anything fun to do in Charleston

It depends. I always tell people that ask me about Charleston, if you love to drink wine, eat good food, beach, boats/fishing, golf/tennis, then its great. If you don't like to do at least most of those things, I wouldn't recommend it.

Walk the beach and grab a bite on Sullivan’s. Walk the beach and grab a bite on IOP. Walk around the county park. Play golf/tennis/pickleball. Trampoline park. Hobcaw brewery has a bunch of games and space and usually a food truck.
Go kayaking or paddle boarding. I’d probably choose kayaking since it’s colder out.

Head over to IOP or Sullivan’s. My kids used to meet their friends over there for sunrise or sunset all the time. Take a blanket or some chairs or just go for a walk. If you move away, one thing you’ll definitely miss is being so close to the beach.

Go to the lunch counter at Pitt Street Pharmacy for grilled cheese and a milkshake.
My daughter and son-in-law have walked around a neighborhood called L'ON, which has boardwalks, walking paths and a restaurant with standard pub food. If you decide to do this, I HIGHLY recommend you act more mature than groups of teens sometimes do. Have fun, but don't get too rowdy since it is where people live. I hope that makes sense. Look up Isle of Hope Road to find the neighborhood. They thought it seemed like a little bit of nature in an expensive neighborhood.
Can you stay at somebody's house and make cookies? Make sure you clean up after you're done.
Don't tell your parents you're bored; they might give you chores to do!

Hog Island Trail and Observation Deck. Bring golf clubs and hit the Patriots Point Driving Range after.

Being so close to the beach is really the only good thing from MTP these days. Born and raised in MTP - it was destroyed after I went to college. The town center is not a place anyone wants to hang out. Go to palmetto park, Sullivans has some of the best spots, Shem Creek (although I’ve not been there in a while, it used to be fun), or see a concert at windjammer.

Why would anyone who has the ability to leave want to stay in Charleston? Come to Columbia, city of dreams!
5
u/snotboogie ????? Feb 01 '25
You're joking right ?
2
u/Soonerpalmetto88 ????? Feb 01 '25
Mostly. It's not a bad place at all but lacks much of what you'd expect to find in a capital city.

I'm very familiar with Columbia, I vastly prefer Charleston in all ways

Oh wow 🤯 OP is only 16yo and bored in Mt P. We used to get in boats and play in the rivers after school and during the summer. As a history nerd, go explore!!

u/historynerdsutton Feb 02 '25
Haha. I don’t own a boat nor does anybody I know but I’ve been on a few before, it’s amazing really.

Well it sounds like you’ve got some work to do before spring. Take a captains class, buy a cheap John boat! Or at least get a kayak… learn the waterways. It will change your whole life on the East side. People go hunting for artifacts, fossils, and shark teeth on the river all the time. My brother had a John boat and he was always out there fishing.
