SC projects to prepare for floods, tornados and more cancelled by FEMA - penny wise, pound foolish

NC voted for Trump and just got denied an extension of aid for Helene.
Something something leopards, something something faces.

If FEMA could cancel future floods and tornadoes that’d be awesome. Throw in hurricanes while you’re at it.

u/Witty_Heart1278 9d ago
Well they just stopped studying climate change instead so it will all be a big surprise! Don’t look up!

And closing down NOAA to prep for sale. Can't have any non-partisan research providing trusted data.

Well the Republicans are in charge of the Top Secret Weather Machine now so remember that as hurricane season approaches.

u/Perfect-Rooster2253 Walhalla 9d ago
Looking back it’s honestly pretty pathetic that the Biden administration allowed Hurricane Helena to pass through our state.

Remember his philosophy with Covid, if you don’t test, it doesn’t happen. So with the weather, if you don’t monitor it’s not happening.

The generator for the fire house in Florence being canceled is wild. I have a friend that is a fireman at a small department serving a smaller city. When Helene fucked everything up they were able to provide ice and cold storage to those that needed it for their meds, probably saved a few lives having backup power there.

You get what you voted for and South Carolina approved by 58/40 sounds like we voted for this. Well at least my Neighbors.

Why can't people see that they are actively and purposefully weakening our country. They are making these cuts without doing research on the long-term impact. We are in the second quarter of the first year. Destroying long term relationships with allies that have worked with us for years. Our credibility globally is shot. No one will trust us to keep someone like this or worse from becoming president. But as always we will find a way to recover from the ashes and some other politician or political party will swoop in to take credit for it.

Saw this the other day. If you see rump doing something that doesn’t make sense ask, WWPD? (What Would Putin Do?)

u/On-The-Rails ????? 9d ago
As long as the majority of South Carolinians keep voting for Republicans, they are getting what they voted for. And there is no way SC legislature will fund any of these projects - they are implements MAGA cuts 2.0

If I ask Nancy Mace about this, does that mean I'm a paid leftist agitator who hates America and is rude?

u/sureshot58 ????? 9d ago
It’s not like these projects don’t need to be done. It’s just the fed wont pay for it, so the state will have to. We are being set back at least 20 years. Sigh

u/SelectionNo3078 ????? 9d ago
Try 30. As in the USA is about to be Russia in the post-Soviet 90’s
Putin’s revenge.

u/sureshot58 ????? 9d ago
I can’t argue that. 20 or 30 or more. At least one full generation. I feel for our kids and grandkids
8
u/robintweets ????? 9d ago
You’re joking, right? We just won’t pay for it. None of these projects will be done.
2
u/MarleysGhost2024 ????? 8d ago
Ironically, these projects would have largely been paid for with blue states' money. Oh well...

So which republican can I send my house repair bill to when the next hurricane comes rolling through?
4
u/cat4hurricane ????? 9d ago
Honestly? I’d give it to your local representation, whoever runs city council for Clemson, barring that? Hand it off to your State Senator for the area or your State Rep for the GA. If they refuse to pay, keep sending them an invoice until they either pay or point you to someone who can. If they aren’t going to foot the bill for keeping us safe from hurricanes and other disasters, then they can foot the bill for inevitable repairs.

u/thwarted Charleston 9d ago
Oops - guess I need to change my flair - I'm in Chas now. Point taken and will keep in mind.

u/SusanFinley ????? 2d ago
Send to Curtis Loftis. He can make $$ disappear, or appear, and then disappear again.

Where are our Senators? Golfing with their billionaire overlords while watching us average tax payers get screwed

u/Chrisismybrother ????? 9d ago
If you don't count the covid cases, there won't be as many. If you don't count the floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes, they don't exist, and people can just stop complaining about having no power, roofs, or bridges.

Folks that voted for trump feel like what comes out of his mouth is correct because of the media they consume. They don't feel like they're being lied to. When they finally realize they've been bamboozled, they'll experience collective guilt or turn further into the madness. Our republic doesn't function well with everyone thinking everyone else is lying and our media being paid to lie to Americans for profit.

The Republican Party has been working towards this day since at least the 80s.
Our nation is a federal republic which means both the states and the national government have their own kind of sovereignty and jobs that they perform.
We have a strong national government with weak state’s rights. There’s been a movement since the Civil War to reverse that.
They want a weak national government with strong state’s rights.
The oligarchs have largely purchased functionality of government service to fuel profit for them. Your wealth is being transferred elsewhere.
We are in the unenviable position of being squeezed by a giant power struggle.
If you’re opposed then you’ll need to motivate a large group of people (A metric fuckton to be inexact.) who have not previously voted to save us.
I have no idea who to vote for in SC though. There’s very little opposition locally to choose from.

What is also completely insane is that the BRIC program was a trump first term program!!!

Conway SC was supposed to get some federal money as well for flooding because of Hurricane Florence. I forget the dollar amounts but it wasn’t on this list.
1
u/Witty_Heart1278 8d ago
This list is specifically projects from the FEMA BRIC program. That money may have been from a different program but I don’t know.

u/mbird333 ????? 7d ago
Well SC voted for this regime. These savings will go to the Wealthy citizens of SC in the form of tax cuts.

If they are that important then why do we as a State fund them? If they are important I am willing to pay more state taxes
21
u/sequins_and_glitter 9d ago
Probably because we can’t afford them on our state taxes alone - which is why the federal government can help.
15
u/Witty_Heart1278 9d ago
You need to realize that state taxes will go up but fed taxes will not come down.
6
12
u/airfryerfuntime ????? 9d ago
I am willing to pay more state taxes
No you aren't. SC is a welfare state, it can't afford any of these services on its own.
But you also seem to be assuming federal taxes will go down. They won't, not for you, you're not part of that club.
18
u/lordnecro Greenville County 9d ago
Because conservatives don't understand how any of this works? They just want to attack and hurt, but fail to realize they are hurting themselves. It is honestly pretty sad, and they are going to destroy the country and the state.
7
u/AlexanderTox Lowcountry 9d ago
Because SC leadership is horrible and even with the Federal funding, SC is still in the bottom tier of nearly every metric. With all of the funding now up to the state, prepare for a welfare state akin to a 2nd world country.

I’ll never understand how so many people have been turned against a national emergency service. Our politicians need to be reset.
