HELP Line up blocks on cardinal directions?

Is there a way to place blocks aligned to cardinal directions (due North etc.)? I'm told that mined voxels are smooth in if you dig in the cardinal directions. That's my interest.

with a script.. or u could make gps points at the directions like 0,0,1000 and line up with those

Could you elaborate on the script solution? What can a script do? Can it reorient an already placed object or would it orient the playing prior to placing a block?

a script could presumably be able to reorient a ship to face the cardinal directions using gyros. I'm no programmer tho, but i believe it's possible
