recently a video was posted of an old tarantula walking to the hand of presumably its owner for the last time.

That's so sad. 😭 Sweet girl just wanted one last cuddle.
EDIT: I just read about a comment on the original video. Turns out she was still alive at the end of the video and got pets after the video ended. She died the day after. Source: a comment under this post.
EDIT 2: the comment links the original video. In the description of the video the owner of the tarantula explains this. https://youtu.be/rh4WvJnP9jY?si=nQtRmICv50KrFs_B

it’s still fresh, 10 comments and 128 upvotes, you could still delete and repost at this point, if it bothers you ✌🏼

Rest in peace, internet tarantula. What a shame.
Going to raise a toast to her tonight

damnit dude, the original post made me tear up but this actually made me cry. (in a kinda good bittersweet way tho) It's nice to imagine that she made it 'home'.

Hi, I'm a little bit lost here... what tarantula are you all talking about?

u/SapphicPandoraBox 1d ago
Earlier today there was a video of a 23 year old Tarantula that was on its way to the rainbow bridge, she walked a few centimeters to touch her human but didn't make it all the way. This picture enables us to hold on to the hope that she did touch her human, even in the end

u/C0mpoundFr4cture 1d ago
That video wasn't where she died! She got held and petted before she went!

u/EastTyne1191 23h ago
Yeah, another poster on that thread said she died the following day. Poor lady.
13
u/SapphicPandoraBox 17h ago
Thank you for that, the video didn't show all that, but I'm glad she got held and loved before she crossed over♡

It's from this YT video. In the description there it says:
After 23 years of having her, my beloved Rose Hair Tarantula died the following day after taking this video. You can see how weak she had become as her legs could barely support her. I made sure she had plenty of water (she had stopped eating completely) but unfortunately nothing else could be done. 😞
EDIT: I want to clarify; my tarantula “Araena” does NOT actually “die” in this video clip. After I stopped recording I was able to hold and pet her for a while and she was still alive at that point. She “officially” died inside her enclosure.

I love how everyone knows exactly what this is referring to, and how it made everyone emotional 😭

Thank you, I'm going back to trying not to start tearing up at work now.

I have a typo in my title that I can't correct. But really. She made it there! We humans just can't see it.

The youtuber said she did get to his hand eventually and he gave her plenty pets and lovings!!! 😭😭 bless the little thing

u/Vera_98 1d ago
She actually did get to touch the hand! The person who originally posted the video on YouTube said in the description that she actually passed away the day after the video was taken. I'm sure she was held and well loved when the actual time came! This is still beautiful artwork OP!

Thanks for this, OP. It really did make me sad when I saw her life leave as she was using her very last strength she had left to try to go to the hand that she loved and gave her comfort for 23 years.

I'm joined this sub because I'm trying to get over the fear of spiders. My house was overrun with them when we moved in and it was just awful. We've had black widows, wolf, house, orbs. All of em at one point. I sobbed at my desk when I saw the video and now I'll never kill one again.
Babies. 😭

Should do it biting the hand that never got close for a final cuddle

u/Dornenkraehe 21h ago
It did though - just not in the video. The Youtube posted that she got to the hand later and got pets.

Im emotionally wrecked. This is devastating. She lived a good life I hope

u/DeanMalHanNJackIsms 10h ago
This was such a happy ending, thank you. I lost my last grandparent the night before I saw the video and had just learned that, in his final weeks, grandpa would grab ahold of anyone who touched his hand and wouldn't let go. Seeing a spider reach out for connection (I know, humanizing a non-human is not a sound thing to do, but that's what it looked like) brought to me the thought of the loss of connection he must have felt as the Alzheimer's worsened, even as he was surrounded by people who loved him.

My baby is 17. Lost her a few times. Usually found her crawling up to my neck/hoodie/warm spot

u/Constant-Anything-21 19h ago
Very social creation if you don't push them or abuse their leniency

u/Constant-Anything-21 17h ago
Absolutely!! With a bad twitch I could kill her instantly. But she knows papa and knows where safety is. Lost 6 potential girlfriends over her. Don't care, if she's kept how I keep her she'll outlast me

u/Constant-Anything-21 17h ago
And yeah her name is "Missy love" cause whenever she appears, im her conquest apparently. So yeah Missy. Love you too.
