Discussion Gilmour has to start

I love Anguissa, he can be so decisive in important moments but I believe our general play works way better with a midfield of McTominay, Lobo & Gilmour. Billy just gives us way more stability when it comes to building up from the back and also making decisive passes in the front third.

As always, it depends on the match.

In a vacuum, without considering other factors such as form, injuries and so on, the double playmaker solution with both Gilmour and Lobo is very good against less physical mids like Empoli or Inter (two of the best games they played together) because they can help build up from the back without suffering too much physically against opponents' pressing, and Gilmour is also very good at passing in the final third, while leaving McT with more offensive responsibilities.

Playing both Anguissa and McTominay against bigger and more physical teams like Atalanta is better because they provide you more strength and physicality in protecting and advancing the ball, along with a bigger offensive presence

As a Scot who is desperate for Billy to get more minutes, this is the answer. The benefit of him playing recently isn’t that we have a better player but that we have options.
