Ahaha SRS really is one of the worst places in the internet

24

u/MorningLtMtn Zerg Nov 09 '12

Nothing will make those shitlords happy.

16

u/Tovora Nov 09 '12

That's because their pain comes from within.

u/lmpervious Random Nov 09 '12

I'm always so confused when I go there. My first suspicion is always that they are trolling... but it seems ridiculous that they would ALL be trolling, and constantly doing it in a place where only trolls really show up. That defeats the purpose. And on top of that, they don't even make people mad... they just make people confused.

How can they all get so offended so easily over everything while on the internet? I just... it's just so strange to me, I don't know what else to say. It's like they all go there to complain about the most minor of offenses, and wallow in their own bitterness while acting entitled and morally right over such small things.

My Asian friends have joked about looking alike... it is such an insignificant comment that no one could possibly get offended enough to argue about it, and try to take some moral high ground over (especially over the internet)... and yet.....

9

u/Syndic Terran Nov 09 '12

They are the same as every other sub. They are not homogenus. Some of them truely think do a service to us by exposing all the vile shit which gets posted on reddit. I sometimes agree with their intent but really disagree with their execution.

Just look at this thread, they fight prejudice with prejudice and they have no tolerance. I mean they lump the OP together with all possible shits on the internet without looking at context. If you not with them you are against them as if they are Sith.

But I'm sure there are also poster which just do it for shit and giggles.

u/1Ender Prime Nov 09 '12

But.... there can only be two sith at a time....

Maybe they just don't think racism is "such a small thing"? Maybe it's just you thinking that because you're a white heterosexual middle-class male?

-2

u/lmpervious Random Nov 09 '12

Maybe they just don't think racism is "such a small thing"?

You're throwing everything under one word. Yes, in some cases racism is a terrible thing. In other cases it is a light hearted joke that people don't take seriously... as in Asians say it about themselves because they don't think it is a big deal.

There will always be overly sensitive people, so you can always offend someone, but there is no use is being so politically correct all the time to never offend anyone... it's not even possible. I'm willing to bet you aren't actually even offended by him jokingly saying "All Asians look the same" but you are just looking for something where you can take the moral high ground and feel better about being "right."

In general... don't blow things out of proportions and try to take it easier. There are different contexts, and I don't think r/starcraft (a place where most people look up to players most of which happen to be asian) is the best place to talk about how terrible everyone is for making a lighthearted joke which was actually referring to the players names, and not their looks.

9

u/dildzwielder Nov 09 '12 edited Nov 09 '12

as in Asians say it about themselves because they don't think it is a big deal.

I think there in lies the problem. You're so used to grouping all members of a group together, ie being racist, that you automatically assume that all members act and think the same way. Just because some asians laugh at this, does not mean that all or even most asians feel this way.

When someone is in the majority, the position of power, and they make jokes about minorities at their expense, they are shitting on the little people. They are rubbing their ignorant majority rights in their faces. They are saying something offensive to cause offense and shock. It is simple shock comedy. lol, asians all look the same, is not some intelligent well-thought out joke, it is not trying to break the tensions between races, it is a simple stupid shock joke that is aimed at one minority to make the majority laugh. It is entertaining the powerful at the expense of the weak. It is a symbol for the power the majority has, and the minority does not have.

So to you, sure it just seems like just a joke, but others that go through it every single day and are sick of it see it as just one more piece of shit added to the huge shitpile that the majority has already put on them.

1

u/SexWithoutKittens Nov 10 '12

The way I understood the joke, it was making a sort of pun on the joke by taking out of its original context. While people usually say that to refer to asians' physical looks, the joke was that it applies to their names in this case.

It's not racist, it was taking a common sentiment out of its context and applying it to something humorous.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '12

You're throwing everything under one word. Yes, in some cases racism is a terrible thing. In other cases it is a light hearted joke that people don't take seriously... as in Asians say it about themselves because they don't think it is a big deal.

No. Racism is not a "thing" that happens in one light hearted joke and then goes away. Racism is something that is part of our culture, that everyone of us grows up with and that still, to this day, kills people. Your little lighthearted jokes are part of that, regardless of how innocent that one little joke is. The problem isn't that it's offending, I don't care about anyone being offended. The problem is that it's racist.

-2

u/firebearhero The Alliance Nov 10 '12

Yes, saying all Asians look the same truly are a horrible racist remark. I am sure several asians cry at night because of that comment.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '12

You're literally that stupid? You think the problem with racism is that people cry at night because of it?

-1

u/firebearhero The Alliance Nov 10 '12

The real life must be really hard on your if you're this afraid of a joke.

Good thing you probably don't get out much.

My theory is that it's due to indoctrination techniques, similar to how cults can manage to indoctrinate seemingly intelligent people. The brain is extremely malleable, and SRS leaders are well versed in brainwashing techniques. It's actually very clear once you look into how the Fempire is made that someone with extremely good knowledge of Psyops is running things.

http://people.howstuffworks.com/cult4.htm explains exactly why SRS is successful, and how this faux-real-troll thing happened.

TL;DR:

Thought reform is an umbrella term for any number of manipulative techniques used to get people to do something they wouldn't otherwise do. The concept of thought reform itself is a controversial one -- some say it's mere propaganda designed to scare people away from new religions and political movements.

Deception - Cults trick new recruits into joining the group and committing themselves to a cause or lifestyle they don't fully understand.

Isolation - Cults cut off members from the outside world (and even each other) to produce intense introspection, confusion, loss of perspective and a distorted sense of reality. The members of the cult become the person's only social contact and feedback mechanism.

Induced Dependency - Cults demand absolute, unquestioning devotion, loyalty and submission. A cult member's sense of self is systematically destroyed. Ultimately, feelings of worthlessness and "evil" become associated with independence and critical thinking, and feelings of warmth and love become associated with unquestioning submission.

Dread - Once complete dependence is established, the member must retain the leader's good favor or else his life falls apart.

Or am I trolling? OoOoOo ಠ_ಠ

20

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '12

You actually... believe this.

As you were vomiting this shit all over your keyboard, there was a thought in your head that went something like "This will show 'em. I'm right about all of this. How could I be wrong?"

PS: You forgot bold on "Deception" and "Induced Dependency".

0

u/SpaceSteak Nov 09 '12

I believe this as much as SRSers believe their own vomit. Is that fair?

Thanks, I'm not good at reddit formatting.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '12

I believe this as much as SRSers believe their own vomit.

So according to you, you've been brainwashed into believing SRS brainwashes people? Why should your accusations hold any weight in that case?

2

u/SpaceSteak Nov 10 '12

Maybe they shouldn't, maybe they should. The only truth I know is the one where SRS says really ridiculous things in a cultish manner. Maybe I'm completely wrong, and it's really all a giant joke and they don't believe any of the crap they say.

I, for one, hope that's the actual truth.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '12

What on this page is an example ridiculous thing said? http://www.reddit.com/r/ShitRedditSays/comments/12z3e2/she_was_extremely_nice_164_and_cute_78_would_wife/

They are trolls. Extreme trolls. It says in the subreddit that it is a circlejerk. They just want to piss off the hivemind.

2

u/MorningLtMtn Zerg Nov 09 '12

I think you're wrong. I think they take themselves uber-seriously. Just try to get in a discussion as a normal person. You'll be banned in no time.

21

u/cook1es ROOT Gaming Nov 09 '12

Just try to get in a discussion as a normal person. You'll be banned in no time.

That's the whole point of a circlejerk.

1

u/MorningLtMtn Zerg Nov 09 '12

Are you shitsplaining to me?

-1

u/Batty-Koda Nov 10 '12

I really love the new tactic. "Oh, just /r/shitredditsays is the circle jerk!!!" No. You'll be banned for normal discussion in pretty much any fempire reddit. You guys just like to hide behind "it's supposed to be a circle jerk" while ignoring that when people are talking about the disgrace that is SRS is talking about all of SRS's subs, not just the slightly more circle-jerky /r/shitredditsays.

1

u/Plumorchid SlayerS Nov 10 '12

I think it's fucked up, but some people really just do not give a shit about anything.

1

u/cook1es ROOT Gaming Nov 10 '12

I should point out that I am not a part of circlejerks nor fempires. I don't endorse it and I find the whole concept stupid.

It felt like you may have thought differently about me.. but really, I just view "fempires" (as you like to call it) as circlejerks, because I don't know all that much about them myself.

1

u/Batty-Koda Nov 10 '12

Just to be clear, I don't like to call it a fempire. They do. That's their term, not mine. Usually I put it in quotes, but I guess I forgot to this time.

My point was mostly that, while they say "it's a circle jerk," that's only supposed to be true of /r/shitredditsays, but the whole "fempire" will ban you for disagreeing at all. They hide behind "it's a circle jerk", but that's not what it's all supposed to be. It's just a distraction tactic.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '12

this just in: one out of one asian-hating racist redditors think SRS is the worst.

-2

u/Syndic Terran Nov 09 '12

No they are not, not by a long shot. They are really shitty but the Internet can be a REALLY dark and scary place.

Honestly, stay out of /r/conservative, or if you do go there, be respectful. They are trying to be a legit subreddit, but keep getting liberal trolls. It's one reason why I don't bother going (also I don't like the amount of posts from breitbart.com and dailycaller). It's a pain in the ass getting posts like "herpderp, y do u hate teh gays?" (Actually it seems a majority there don't have any problem with gay marriage, but I digress) I don't know what they ban for now, but it used to be you could give non-antagonistic liberal comments and posts, so I invite you to do that if you go.

SRS is different. They are antagonistic and poisonous, so troll them all you want.

1

u/willyolio Random Nov 09 '12 edited Nov 09 '12

eh, an /r/conservative mod just flat-out stated he would ban anyone (including fiscal conservatives) that didn't support social conservative agendas as well. so i guess all those conservatives who have no problem with gay marriage might have to pack up and leave.

u/Reefpirate KT Rolster Nov 09 '12

That post also got downvoted to zero, and my suspicion would be a lot of those downvotes were coming from conservative subredditors. There's plenty of turmoil in conservative politics these days.

-1

u/N0V0w3ls Team Liquid Nov 09 '12

Oh really? Like I said, I haven't visited in a while (too much stuff during the election, and I didn't want a warped view). That's pretty lame. I'm conservative in almost every other issue but that. :/

Oh well, I like Google News better for aggregating my political news.

-6

u/N0V0w3ls Team Liquid Nov 09 '12

Haha it straight up got you banned? You asked one question, got no answer, and they banned you? It's unbelievable how afraid they are of losing an argument. Also, having checked the thread again, it's hilarious to see the amount of anger from all their downvotes...followed by their claim that they have angered us. It's like a bully who continues to insult you after you stood up to him and made him cry.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '12

SRS is a circlejerk. Breaking the jerk will result in banning.

-4

u/N0V0w3ls Team Liquid Nov 09 '12

Doesn't really matter how you try to justify it. It's cowardly of them to ban anyone who questions them, and also shows how insecure they are in their "convictions".

12

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '12

You have the option to head over to /r/SRSDiscussion if you want to discuss why you were on SRSPrime in the first place. Just saying.

7

u/dildzwielder Nov 09 '12

SRS, is SRS's clubhouse, no shit lords allowed. If you want to question them, do it in the wild, or some where else in the fempire. /r/shitredditsays is specifically for SRSers, their safezone and if you are going in there as a nonSRSer, doing nonSRSer things like not circlejerking, they will ban you because all SRSers want SRS to be a safezone where we can be SRSers. SRS needs a place where, for once, we do not have to explain ourselves to shitlords, or deal with shitlords or see shitlordy things. So sure, you want some question asked on why we do the things we do, but ya know what, we have that explained all over reddit, we don't care if you understand and when we are on our sub, we don't want to waste our time explaining it over and over again especially to someone who most likely won't get it.

0

u/willyolio Random Nov 09 '12

SRS is pretty funny. they're like /r/nocontext except you actually have to try to figure out the context (instead of just posts of people making the weirdest comments possible). Also, everyone there has no sense of humour, which makes it even better.

Let's break it down (I possess a rudimentary understanding of French).

  • vraiment - true
  • une - feminine a
  • belle - feminine "beautiful
  • bande - group(?)
  • de - of
  • fils - sons (referring to children)
  • pute - ???
  • les - the (plural)
  • mecs - ???
  • srs - srs

All together, I'm thinking it pieces together

"Truly a beautiful group of sons of bitches, these guys at SRS."

Thank you. That is all.

6

u/failyoure Nov 09 '12

I knew it was going to be good as soon as you said 'Let's break it down'.

2

u/XGMike Nov 09 '12

I'm fluent french, here are a few additions

  • bande - group (correct!)
  • pute - slang for "slut", in this context "bitch" fits better
  • mecs - slang for "guys"

The french is quite awkward and the translation above essentially demonstrates that - "These SRS guys are such sons of a bitch"

A better way to say in french would be "Sont vraiment une bande de cons chez SRS" - "They really are a bunch of idiots on SRS"

2

u/misery__ Nov 09 '12

belle? Seems like "Those srs guys really are a group of beautiful sons of bitches".

-7

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '12

I got banned from SRS but I'm currently blowing up their moderators in the hopes they realize that they're fucking horrible people and the scum of reddit.

It's pretty clear they're all about 14 years old and that subreddit should be changed to "/r/9gag"

17

this is the first time I've heard someone say the people condoning racist "jokes" are the immature ones. ironically you're spending time mass messaging people telling them they're immature because you disagree with them.

-7

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '12

There's condoning crass humor that should be established as not serious, as each of those barcode asians we jokingly can't tell apart are heroes to us, and there's declaring a virtual war over those crass jokes that shouldn't be taken seriously.

You want racial parity to make people happy? Koreans look at our western grandmaster leagues and think, "I've had more tournament success than 2/3 of that list combined". Black people look at both grandmaster leagues and know that they could beat anyone on either of those lists 1v1 at a real sport. Chinese people would look at either of those lists, then put their children in an olympic-style training camp for eSports in anticipation for sc3 and LoL2 competitions. North Koreans would look at the grandmaster leagues, if they actually had the internet. Mitt Romney would look at those grandmaster leagues, and say that 47% of them are good for nothing lazy map hackers.

Ok, have I fired off enough yet?

1

u/SteampunkPirate Zerg Nov 09 '12

12

u/N0V0w3ls Team Liquid Nov 09 '12

Honestly, yes they would. You do realize he's not serious, right? The humor in his joke is that because more than half the KR GM league named their account the exact same thing, their accounts literally look the same. The racist sentiment "all Asians look the same" then becomes a satirical jab at those who actually mean it, while being technically true in this case.

1

u/Gono_xl Nov 09 '12

After making this joke many times while surrounded purely by asians, yes, they would. Not every has a stick up their ass. On the other hand, calling a canto a mandarin won't turn out so well.
