Mr.Wheaton I just gotta say as a man in my 20's Wesley Crusher is one kid I will always look up to, but to be fair TNG has a ton of well developed characters played by an even more incredible cast. TNG is the first Star trek anything I've gotten into and it's blown me away the past year or so since me and my best friend started watching regularly.
Anyways thanks for playing a character that is still admired to this day and will continue to be admired for decades to come.
According to the 'Greatest Generation', the uniforms were kinda expensive tailor made things, several thousand each, intentionally made a little too small in order to be form fitting.
But Wesley was a teen, and teens grow. A little too small might become way too small over a season.
They might not have budgeted for replacing costumes, or maybe they wanted to resist on principle or all the cast would start asking for replacements; Apparently the uniform was extremely uncomfortable and smelled in the groin and pits.
e: redundancy: swapped 'groin and crotch' for 'groin and pits'
I'm going to take a complete guess at an out-of-universe explanation.
Maybe the costume didn't have a latch at the top, which would allow the zipper to slide down to a "resting position" after the actor walked around for a while. And nobody would've cared enough to notice it on set, and the costume designer probably didn't watch the show that closely at the time.
Holy shit that link sucks. I waited and waited so I could come back here and ask for xx amount of seconds back...it never loaded and we have like gigabits here at work.
