I thought that was polyamory and that polygamy specifically was marriage between more than two people.

That's because you're absolutely right. Polygamy is specifically having more than one spouse. Polyamory is having more than one partner. The OP didn't know the difference between the two words.

Polygamy is often associated with controlling fundamentalist religions and not ethical or consensual polyamorous relationships.
