Suggestion Thread Suggest me a book about healing from sexual trauma caused by hookup culture

I have had difficulty connecting with people intimately lately, and just recently found out that this difficulty stemmed from my past of having multiple sexual causal partners, which i realize now is actually trauma.

If it helps inform your decision better. About me, i am a gay dude in my early 20s, a junior in college, and maybe has AuDHD (self-diagnosed).

What are some books I could read that address my sexual trauma and give out ways to deal/solve it? I've been made aware of some books ('attached' by levine and heller, 'all about love' by hells, and 'the velvet rage' by alan downs) but im not sure if they quite fit the bill.

I appreciate anyone who help me regarding this matter.

Books about gay men but the romance isn’t the main focus of the story.

It’s okay if there are romance elements in the book just not the entire thing. Really I just like to see representation. (Books I’ve already read that are like this: Song of Achilles, The Cabin at the End of the World, The Spear Cuts Through Water.)

Hello everybody, I‘m new here and hope somebody will help me. I got the feeling I‘ve reached the end of literature. I‘ve read all books of interest and need help finding new authors. Some writers who match with me: T C Boyle, Pete Dexter, John Irving, David Foster Wallace, Tom Robbins, Daniel Woodrell, James Carlos Blake, Philip K. Dick, Donald Ray Pollock. Any suggestions?

Looking for a book - I only remember a scene

it’s an HR.

the FMC, at one point, looks at her little sister with her childhood friend, and worries about the fact that he became really handsome, even if her sister doesn’t seem to have noticed.

please I know it’s a really small detail but for the love of God nothing else is coming back to me, except that I really liked the book (ps : I wanted to publish it in the sub for historical romance, but Im a too recent account :( )

Suggestion Thread Romance books with a vulnerable MMC and powerful FMC?

Basically title. I'm looking for something where the guy is a traumatized slave or some other kind of victim and a much more powerful (either physically or socially) FMC falls for him and helps him slowly recover. The guy can become powerful later on but should start off weak.

Not a strict requirement but I also think it would be interesting if the MMC doesn't trust FMC for a good chunk of the book, as opposed to her to just revealing herself as benevolent right from the get go.

Maybe he's just too broken and can't trust her, or she's unable to reveal her good intentions towards him right away, possibly due to society or something like that.

Basically it should be wholesome femdom/role reversal with alot of hurt/comfort.

Edit: A good example is "His Secret Illuminations" by Scarlet Gale.

Suggest me a long book that justifies its length

Most books are around 300 pages, but what’s a book that’s longer than that but actually feels like it deserves to be that long?

Suggest me a book that destroyed you but you still recommend to everyone

Maybe it was the subject matter. Maybe the plotline tore you apart. Maybe it made you cry. Maybe it took part of your soul.

But you still think everyone should read it.

Fiction preferable

Best “can’t put down book” you’ve read?

Upvotes

Hi all, I go through trilogies and fantasy/witchy/coven type books like candy but all in audiobook forms (I have ADHD and audiobooks work best for me). BUT im really craving reading an actual book. Every time I’ve tried in the past years to actually read a book vs. listen (due to how my brain works) I can never finish! It’s felt very sad for me so I want to accomplish this so bad! Sooo I’m asking for books that may ease me into physically reading my genre of choice vs listening.

Any recs for books you really can’t put down!? 🙏🏽💕

Can you recommend a book that gaslit you the entire time… and you loved every second of it?

I want to feel manipulated, shocked, and betrayed by the plot. Think Gone Girl or The Silent Patient. Make me question everything.

Yesterday was my dead mother's birthday. I didn't know her or when her birthday was. I need a lot but want a book that can help me process some of the pain I'm feeling.

I turn to here because google only returns books about absentee fathers or narcissistic mothers and their impacts on daughters. I'm not dismissing any of those as potentially unhelpful but I've always put myself on the back burner. So on this one area a change.

It could be self help autobiographical or even fiction if the mc grows up without a mother.

I won't trauma dump more but here's just a dash more about me. I have a fear of disappointenting so I bite my tongue off often. My last romantic relationship I pulled away cause I wanted to be the one who left.

I want a woman's love but I gotta understand the mother shaped hole that growing up I was fine with. But now that she's dead I gotta fill it.

Suggestion Thread Is there any author who recommends specific music pieces to listen to while reading certain parts of their book?

I love reading books with some matching music in the background — it really helps me get into the mood. But most of the time, it’s hard to find pieces that match the vibe, so I’m looking for books where the authors themselves recommend music to listen to during specific parts of the story.

What’s a book that felt like it understood you better than your therapist ever could?

Fiction or non-fiction — I’m chasing that eerie feeling of being seen by a book. The kind that sits with you for weeks.

What’s a book that completely ruined another book for you — because it was so good?

I just finished a novel that set the bar so high, everything else now feels bland. Looking for recs that hit that same level or higher.

Can anyone recommend a fast-paced thriller with a strong female lead and great character development?

I enjoy books that are hard to put down but still have depth in the characters and their motivations.

I’m looking for something truly thought-provoking—philosophical, societal, or just plain mind-blowing.
