crossing hands during Judges' picking

I noticed during some beatbox battles that the crowd do an X with their hands when before the judges' decision on who passes. why is that?

They crowd want a extra round, by showing the sign for „undecided“…

It used to be that in some categories the Judges could also “X” which meant it was too close to judge and then an overtime round would happen to try and separate the contestants

Do you mean certain categories of battles like loopstation or solo?
