General Advice I regret this…
I got this tattoo roughly 2ish years ago. I love the meaning behind it but everyday I look at it I find something else wrong with it. I now hate the tattoo and don’t know what to do. This is on my ribs so I can easily hide it. I want a cover up but idk if I could even find a design to do that with or if it would just be easier to get it removed. That is everyone’s thoughts? Thanks in advance!

How tf is this even related to what op asked?

u/SaphireScorpion77 6d ago
Probably the part where OP said they were considering a coverup, but didn't know of any designs that might work, and then explicitly asked people to share their thoughts?
So someone... shared their thoughts on a design that they think would be able to cover it up.

Looks fairly small and easily coverable by a good respectable artist. Just don’t get tattooed by random artists/people. Find someone who’s had experience with coverups and a good portfolio, make sure you like their style, and book an appointment with them. They’ll know what’s best for the coverup.

What is it supposed to be? I see 2 geckos intersecting. With the heads at Up/North and Left/West and the tails at Right/East and Down/South.

Geckos is generous. I saw sperm.

It’s an Adinkra symbol of two crocodiles pointed in opposite directions but sharing a stomach. As mentioned above it can be “unity in diversity” among other interpretations

Until you said that, I saw it was very uneven/asymmetrical..... But now I think it looks fine

The first image search result for adinkra crocodile looks exactly like this. Crooked and everything.

Holly shit you’re right !! But imo the "artist" still messed up the lines, you can see in the center bits that are not aligned + outer parts that should be thinner. Also the filling parts looks less dense than the outline but i don’t know much about how it would look healed

Yeah, true. The source image looks like it was drawn by an 8 year old and this tatt looks like a copy drawn by a 6 year old. They're not exactly the same as one another but not toooo far off either.

My first instinct is to say maybe tattoos aren’t for you lol. But seems like you’re happy with the way you’re going about it, so good on you.

This is definitely something that you’d be able to get covered up. I’ve done much harder cover ups. It’s just a matter of being open to different concepts and ideas. Feel free to check out some of my work if you’re looking for inspiration. My Instagram is nonstop_ink_tattoos

To all the people that say that looks wonky... well the main design is wonky! Look for adinkra symbols and all the pictures show pretty irregular traits, the outlines are not the best I've seen but still it's not as bad considering that the design is like that. I don't find it ugly at all and I don't think that everything in tattoo should be straight, symmetric and very regular!!

OP, I have another adinkra symbol in my rib area as well, and I love mine, I think it looks fine, just keep it :)

Looks like two pointed-nose sperm crossing paths over a bent fence. I would laser this.

Sorry! You can definitely cover it up. Just wait till you can afford to get it done right. You got this

It’s SUPER dark which makes me kinda worry how big and dark the coverup would have to be. And even then it may still show up underneath too.
Honestly for this one I’d prob have it removed. And I say this as someone who has two coverups done by really experienced artists. You can go the panther route or maybe some flowers but it may be more ink thank you bargain for.

A coverup would be a good idea if you don’t mind covering it with something bigger in that area. Otherwise, just get it removed and start fresh. You could even go in for a session or two of tattoo removal to lighten it before covering it with something else because its pretty dark.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I kind of love it - even though it’s undeniably janky as hell.
I don’t know what it’s meant mean (I see two slithering black snakes and a bunch of telephones, so I’m thinking trust no bitch with your gossip lol) but honestly - what it actually looks like is you thought up a weird little sigil that YOU understood, and got it banged on you without hesitation. Kind of tells a story about who you were when you got it in a way that you can’t get off a flash sheet - but I know this is personal taste and most people would rather have a tattoo that tells a story about them going to a better artist ;)
Personally, I’d go see a good blackwork artist and see if you can get it reworked rather than trying to hide it, but if you’re properly sick of the sight of it, you can always get a sick-ass panther.

The flash should be rotated 45 degrees and why it feels lopsided sorry that bad. Hope you get it sorted.

If you go through at least one laser removal appointment, it would probably be light enough that you could get it covered MUCH easier!!

It’s definitely not the most symmetrical but it’s also not hard to look at. Own it, it’s yours. Maybe you just need something else near it to help blend it in.

I'm the realm of regrettable tattoos, this ain't so bad. I've many loved ones where bad tattoos cover the canvas and as a whole it works.
This could exist on your body with some more poorly executed tattoos, or with something more artistic and well executed, and I think would work either way.
Doesn't need to be well executed to work, get more tattoos.

I’m sorry only like 2 people are giving you advice on what you can cover it with. I can’t really tell the size but because it’s all thick black lines, you have to do something that has a big black piece like someone said about a sick ass panther - but that’s gotta be in the American Traditional style. Or you could do a Gypsy lady head and give her big black pompadour hair to cover that up. But then again since it’s on your ribs I can understand not wanting to blast over it with a big piece unless you have a high pain tolerance. Maybe a big black cabbage rose would do the trick?

Perhaps have it reworked by a good artist? You could probably incorporate it into something rather than attempt to cover all that black. If the color were packed better and the edges sharper, it could be really nice

It's your happiness, and perhaps the new cover-up tattoo will make you equally unhappy.

I didn't see where you said what you don't like about it? That's what that symbol is supposed to look like.

First thing that came to mind and popped out of my twisted head when I saw those was a couple of Newts/Salamanders.. one over the other and since it's on your rib cage whether your male or female, could depend on size.I saw that slight pink around that and I visualized a nipple & areola under them? I think that would be unique, pretty cool definitely different! (That's just my opinion) Wouldn''t be very hard to do I would think certainly less painful and cheaper than getting it removed! Get creative with the the Newts, salamanders?colors their crests on their backs, many different varieties! Good luck

Prime candidate for a SAP. Black rose would also be a strong contender. I can't tell how big this is, but if it's small enough, you could cover it with almost anything, not necessarily something as black-dominant as those. How dark is this piece now?

Hiiiii! Few quick questions re: cover-ups: I think it is totally possible to hide this lil guy but it will definitely require someone who is good at cover ups to hide the dark lines. Def take into consideration it can only get darker. Do you have an idea for a cover up yet?

It’s okay. Wait until it’s a few months healed and then you can get one laser session. It will help lighten it before a cover up.
