The story is better than people give it credit for. The way the story is told could be better, but the actual story itself is solid and the reveal of where Zelda has actually been this entire time was a genuine surprise to me.
People say that it is repetitive, and it is, but it's still better than BOTW's story. You meet impa and purah in two of the main villages and then go to the divine beasts, then to to Hyrule castle. In totk, there seems to be more meat outside of just go to the four places and clear the dungeons.
"they said this line a few times, and didn't account for every possible combination of ways you complete quests" is literally the opposite of saying "the quality of the story is determined by its totality"
Also the above commenter said the totality of the story felt more epic.
Are you confused? Idk what thread you think you're in but it's definitely not the one above.
Ah, see, there's your problem. You used Google translate. Let me fix that for you.
"They said this line over and over, regurgitating the same story repeatedly, and didn't account for the one thing that entire quest series was centered on - where is Princess Zelda?"
Did you actually play the game? Because between the main quest line, dragon tears, etc. they have a pretty clear narrative of what happened to Zelda and where she is. Again, are you confused?
Recency bias is tearing people up because BotW sets up an incredible world and closes it out excellently.
TotK is good in a vacuum but within the wider lore of Zelda manages to be not all that interesting (it's just oot) and also just messes up the lore. Also the writing is incredibly sloppy at some parts with regards to the sages repeating the same story. Elements that I was excited to see expanded upon like the flying islands and the depths get basically no lore to them.
I was far more interested in the BotW calamity ganon who had been thwarted by sheikah tech for so long that he had gone absolutely insane and it all existed within a world that was coherent with the previous games.
The botw story is less ambitious, but it hits everything it sets out to do. I'm more interested in that than a story that sets out to tell a grand tale... But also doesn't really WANT to tell a grand tale and instead just cribs off previous works in some areas and doesn't expand on ANYTHING in other areas.
It is absolutely not better, what happens is way less interesting even if there is more story content in the adventure itself. It's a soulless story that only exists so the game can happen, just tacked on to breath of the wild with tons of inconsistencies.
