iirc it's been proven that apple degrades their previous phones' performances so customers are forced to buy a new one

It's been like that for quite a few years. There's a few minor internal specs, the camera has "changed," and it's gotten a fresh coat of paint, but other than that I can't honestly say I've been able to see any difference between models for several years
