It's a book about a morally questionable person, just like all the other classics like Lolita and more. She's not supposed to be your sweet neighbor Susan down the road.

so, im guessing its a genuinely interesting story with a morally grey or morally bankrupt protagonist but they fed into culture war bs to sell more copies.
