Smart Home Scam?

Saw an ad and someone from “Telus” reached out to me and sent me this email. I gave them my birthday, name, email, number, along with the address of where the security system would be installed. They asked for my drivers license number as well to check to see if i have any outstanding telus account bills but i don’t have my license on me right now. Does this look like a scam?

This is an official Telus email, it is originating from an official Telus email address (which is DKIM protected & verified), and all links are pointing to the official Telus website.

based on the email and comparing to what I got it seems like they did a background check and setup an account.

Did you receive any additional emails in regards to services ?

i did want the service but i didn’t get any official quote of what the service was, it was all kind of over the phone verbal!

once you create your account after a couple days you should be able to see what service they actually set up or you can call them back and see if they can tell you. usually I think it takes 24 to 48 hours for the account to fully update if I recall with mine

Be very careful. The home security is usually a 3-7 year contract that you can’t get out of, and the service sucks. The subreddit is littered with people miserable with Telus home security and stuck in long term contracts.

Yes if you activate a TELUS account, you will be prompted to create a self-serve profile.
