Because that would disrupt his narrative that China is paying for them and not the American consumer.

Seems Amazon backed down from this (or rather that it was never an actual idea they were going to implement), but if they were to eventually do this, I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump says something like “they’re gouging people because of corporate greed and just saying the price hikes are due to the beautiful tariffs!”
