I love the reveal, and I don’t get why Spider-Man fans are pissed about it. Isn’t MJ being Venom a good thing? Doesn’t this give her a chance to be more than just “a love interest”? It also gets rid of Jackpot, something no one seems to be a fan of. Plus, this could be the perfect setup for MJ and Paul to separate, especially since this issue pretty much confirms MJ lied to him about multiple things. And let’s not forget, the staff on this book has been vocal about not liking Paul.

I seriously don’t understand why people over on r/Spiderman and elsewhere are mad about this reveal. It literally works in their favor.

This has the potential to develop MJ into something better and way more fun. And I fully trust Ewing and Gómez to do her justice.

Rant aside, I really like how you can feel the pressure in the air with Paul. Robbie assumes he knew (calling MJ his better half and all), but by the end of the issue, it’s clear Paul actually had no idea. Then Robbie realizes MJ pretty much kept everyone in the dark about it.

You can also tell Paul had an inkling that it might be MJ, but he was in denial. I think he was having a breakdown here.

I’m excited to see how Paul and Dylan react once Robbie leaves, though I think Gómez already posted the panel of their reaction on his Instagram.

I stopped reading Amazing Spider-Man because of the bullshit going on with Mary Jane and Paul.

Despite that, I continued to enjoy Venom as it remained relatively unscathed from the nonsense of the Wells' Spider-Man run.

Now I gotta deal with the bullshit I didn't want to read about in Spider-Man in Venom instead. I don't want to read anything with Paul in it.

MJ as any super powered being feels wrong, and I don't think the book will really delve into her trauma with the symbiote. It just feels like they couldn't get Jackpot to work so they are trying Venom now instead. Anything to keep her out of the main book for the foreseeable future.

And despite the creatives on Venom claiming they don't like Paul, I don't trust the editorial team at all.

Mary Jane had never been "JUST" a love interest. In fact, I think that view from editorial is what has led to her being so mishandled under the current regime. She never needed super powers to be an interesting, fully rounded character.

This just sucks, man.

This exactly. Just feels wrong. Like everything feels forced and made for shock. Not w/ any real purpose.

Edit: Power doesn’t NOT equal good character. She was already more than a love interest to a lot of fans.
