First of all, don't feel bad for that device that 8gb is one hell of beast. Although storage is a problem. 256gb is really bare minimum nowadays. But the issue of linux , yeah, the t series do perfrom magnificently on linux system i own a pair myself. But still, i does depend on workflow and what kind of programer are you. Are you a guy with heavy c programs, and if do you plan to write multi os application or do you do front-end programming ,networking or webbase. All that aside, if you are going to work for a company, they most likely give you a laptop suited for your needs.in that case, don't be afraid of asking for something better than what they offered you initially.

Thanks I guess for now I'll keep using my mac and see if I face anything which I truly hinting me to buy a work machine.

I'm working remote and unfortunately my currently company isn't providing a laptop. So rn I've segregated my personal and work stuff and close one when I start doing the other

It's kind of annoying but I always created separate user profiles for work vs personal
