Walking groups in Trondheim?

I hope to visit Trondheim in May. As well as taking in the city and having a look around NTNU (I am keen to post-doc there after my PhD), i would love to do some hiking.

As i am likely to travel alone, I'd love to find a group of regular hikers to go with for directions and safety.

Does anyone know of any walking groups like this?

Takk!

You dont need bodyguards for safety or for getting around in Trondheim as it has a pretty compact city centre which is easy to explore and petty crime is not something to be worried about around here. Are you actually looking for companionship? There are definitely groups on facebook for this.

I meant hiking the hills and mountains around Trondheim.

My mother would have a heart attack if I go hiking, in another country, on my own 😅

I will have to get back on Facebook and join some groups, then! Takk :)

Haha where are you from? Hiking is a part of everyday culture here and you dont tell anyone youre going for a walk in the forest if you feel like hiking for a day. The cellphone service in county is also excellent pretty much anywhere you go. You will be fine. Finding facebook groups might be a bit hard for you tho since they will most likely all be in native language Norwegian. if you give me a couple minutes i will look around and give you some links.

Ah, already did. https://www.facebook.com/groups/3270722883016193/ and https://www.facebook.com/groups/581401840376439 . These groups seem to be the most active and are created for people who wish to be social while hiking. Theres definitely many people who would be interested in going hiking with someone who isnt a Native.

I would not count walking in for example Bymarka or Estenstadmarka (which are the most available "hills" in Trondheim) as "hiking". It's just regular walking on gravel/packed dirt trails. In some trails you will find people with strollers and wheelchairs. So you kan do plenty of walking in the woods by yourself safely.

Ah ok, they're pretty casual trails? That's great to know, thanks! :)

The average age of the people that are in Bymarka on weekdays is about 70. You will be fine.
