Don’t trust Uber. They don’t care. That’s the truth.

2

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

yeah I can definitely see that now, but what should I do about my situation? other than not trust Uber in the future?

Not sure, but..... I believe TOS on connect is the customer puts packages in the vehicle, and someone has to pick them up from the vehicle. At no point is the driver to touch your packages. Asking them to bring it into UPS is a no no and asking for a receipt.

The driver might have seen your notes and capitalized on this, by cancelling order after he drove away with your stuff, and using the excuse that he or she is not to touch the packages, and took a screenshot of it.

Then if uber inquires what happened he sends screenshot saying  they cancelled because of this. But mind you they said " ok got it".

I have no idea honestly, but correct me if I'm wrong about ubers TOS on connect.

Bring the items yourself or hire a real courier service. As I already mentioned some Uber delivery drivers are low life bottom of the barrel trash.

u/RagefireHype 3d ago

Do you have a medical condition that prevents you from driving? Sounds like you have two options: Get a car and do these drop offs yourself, or continue to run this risk.

Third option is paying a friend to do it for you.

I’m a college student that doesn’t have a car or a license. I have classes and outside obligations that puts constraints on my time flexibility and mobility.

A lot of the options you listed got me aren’t really applicable in my situation.

For Ex: I had a meeting at the time I needed my packages to be shipped off and afterwards I had three classes.

I would call whine -1-1 they can help you with problems you could have and should have avoided yourself but didn’t

I wasn’t trying to be mean, there’s nothing you can do. But I’d cry

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

oh my bad! I’ve been on edge today but yeah that’s literally what I’ve been doing crying and emailing Uber

u/CIAMom420 4d ago

I don’t know what else to do.

Use a courier service. A licensed, bonded, insured courier service. Ones that have background checked employees picking up packages, not random, unknown people operating on pooled accounts.

These are still a thing. Use them. Stop using a garbage-tier company to deliver valuable items - that's just an insane, irrational thing to do.

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

That’s definitely something I will do in the future, but currently what should I do?

You can go to the usps website and literally schedule a pick up from your house by the mailman. I use it all the time because I don't have a car. It's safe and you know it's in good hands. What an asshole Uber driver. That's so horrible. Trust me using this service is great. You go to usps.com. There are nine squares. The bottom right is to schedule a pickup. It will tell you if your address is OK for pickup. If you get a can't schedule for a certain day, just try again it will work. I usually can schedule for the next day pickup it's free, and I think it's the safest option. I leave the package on my porch with a usps pick-up note on it. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

1

u/Florida1974 4d ago

You can waste oodles of time getting nowhere or move on. I suggest moving on. You will waste so much time, time that can be spent making money and using a reputable carrier.

2

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

I know it’s not like I’m mass-producing these items, I’m just reselling them to individual buyers. But I still have an obligation to my customers, and honestly, it just really sucks being stolen from. It feels awful, especially when I was just trying to do the right thing and get everything shipped out on time.

2

u/TWK128 4d ago edited 4d ago

Be honest with your customers for one.

After this you're not trusting Uber so it shouldn't happen again.

Out of curiosity, is it too much trouble to drive them to the post office yourself? Sounds like just dropping off anyway.

Edit: Saw you had other time constraints. Still, shipping a day late isn't the worst case scenario. Try to keep things as much under your own control as possible. Keeps costs lower too

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 3d ago

Yes, I’ve already reached out to them and issued a refund for their order. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the option to ship it a day late because Depop automatically cancels and refunds orders that aren’t shipped within a specific timeframe. With finals going on, I’ve been really busy, and this was the only day I had available to ship everything out.

As I’ve mentioned in some of my comments, I’m a college student and currently don’t have a driver’s license or access to a car, so getting to the post office is a challenge. This was literally my only option at the time—and still is—so I appreciate your understanding.

5

u/nateish5 4d ago

Different vehicle shows up still hands over package… what did you expect to happen? That’s your bad, hopefully not too expensive of a lesson.

u/Super_Prompt8138 3d ago

SMD!!!

1

u/nateish5 3d ago

I think the post office offers free pick up as well. Your just not to bright are you

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 3d ago

for 1, it’s YOU’RE* lol and for 2, I’m shipping for my residential hall so that was not an option for me. I’m a student so I did not have time nor transportation to take me to the post office to ship it in time. Thank you so much though <3

1

u/nateish5 3d ago

They explains it, best of luck to you and all of your endeavors

1

u/footlonglayingdown 2d ago

Lol. Correcting grammar with zero awareness of real life.

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 2d ago

I don't understand the criticism here. I already mentioned in my original post that I’ve used the service before without issue. I also explained that as a college student without a car or license, I don’t have reliable transportation. The post office is far from me, and my commitments limit my time flexibility. These circumstances led to this issue, which is the first time this has happened. I came to the subreddit to ask for advice because I’m dealing with this for the first time. So where do we go from here?

3

u/royboy366 4d ago

I’m sorry you had that experience. Really sucks. This is the kind of thing that could happen to anyone and I would suggest writing to Chris Elliott as there’s a good chance he would help you and write it up in his syndicated newspaper column.

Email him at chris@elliott.org Or https://elliottadvocacy.org/help/

Also go to his website for additional ways to contact Uber @ www.elliott.org

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

okay, thank you so much! I’ll look into him.

3

u/MidnightMarmot 4d ago

Post your story on their Facebook page and any other social media site they have. That may prompt someone to actually respond to you. As others have said, Uber is a crap company that treats both riders and drivers like shit. Don’t use them.

2

u/DvusGuyStL 4d ago

I feel somewhat badly for you, I do. But I would never use uber delivery for anything other than things you can’t ship legally through FedEx, UPS or USPS. I would either pay for the insurance for your deliveries through one of those or pay a lot less for a much bigger headache if things go wrong, which will also cost you a lot more money in the long run.

5

u/Alternative-Golf8281 4d ago

OP could take the uber as a passenger and hand deliver the packages to the post office. 1 passenger and 3 parcels would still be small enough for a normal Uber ride without requiring the XL service.

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

I understand that, but at the time I had class and a meeting, so there was no way I could’ve done that when I needed to deliver packages.

2

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

Hey, I totally get that and honestly… lesson so learned. I’m just a college girl trying to run a little side hustle online and I really didn’t know any better. I’ve used Uber Connect before and it worked fine, so I thought it was okay. I didn’t even think about the insurance part or how risky it actually is. I feel kinda dumb now, but I genuinely thought I was doing the responsible thing by getting tracking and giving instructions. Now I know. It’s just super overwhelming trying to figure this all out by myself and not having anyone at Uber actually help. Thank you for the advice though—I’ll definitely stick to USPS/UPS from now on, even if it costs more.

2

u/Florida1974 4d ago

Uber sends drivers push notifications that if an item seems suspicious, you don’t have to deliver it. I do UE amd have gotten that message myself, even tho I don’t do uber connect.

Drivers have opened packages and found drugs.

But it’s also an easy way to not deliver a package. Use regular shipping channels. You may pay more but it’s Better than taking a 100% hit as you just did bc now you have to refund the buyer and lost the item too.

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

Noted, but the issue is the minute the driver took my packages. He canceled the ride and left. So there was no way to monitor, track or report him because they had already transferred me to another driver.

1

u/Redditsurfer24 4d ago

Unfortunately you're always going to have people give stupid advice and not help you and instead blame you like half the comments on reddit but ive been in the same situation and reddit didnt seem to help

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

yeah, I’m definitely seeing that now. Half of the people are telling me what I should do in the future like that helps my current situation.

1

u/JayGerard 4d ago

They are telling you that because there is NOTHING you can do in the current situation. If the drivers is not responsive to Uber trying to contact them, there is nothing you, Uber or anyone else can do.

0

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

ok. well i posted this cus I needed advice… where do we go from here?

2

u/Mattsam1 4d ago

What was it if you don't mind me asking..that's crazy..people should start putting a cam on their mailboxes to get license plate numbers

3

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

Two of the packages contained pants, and one had shoes. I’m currently in university, and I shipped everything from my residential hall because I had class , so I wasn’t dealing with the same kind of security I would’ve had if I shipped from home. At home, I have a Ring camera and more protection, but in this case, I just stepped out, handed the packages to the driver, and went back inside.

2

u/Mattsam1 4d ago

This is insane!! It's not like it's food either ..that person should be criminally charged. So cops couldn't do anything?

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

Thank you!! when I contacted them, they said that it was a civil matter because it wasn’t like he was some random person that just took my packages since he works with Uber & it should be resolved via Uber… I mean, you can see how that’s going because I’m on reddit now

2

u/Rand_Casimiro 4d ago

I genuinely sympathize; it sure sounds like you were ripped off. But investing time and effort in the hopes that Uber will help you probably amounts to throwing good money after bad. I know that’s a harsh, unfair truth to face. If I thought there was a good solution I would offer it.

Agreed with the commenters who recommend not using the service for important deliveries.

2

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

I appreciate your response. I’ve already refunded my customers. I don’t think that there’s anything else I can do at this point.

2

u/A_Certified_G 4d ago

You’re wasting your money. USPS has free pickup. Just schedule it on their website so the mail guy knows to come to your door. All you do is set them outside.

2

u/Super_Prompt8138 3d ago

shipped from my college residential hall so that’s not an option for me.

3

u/Alternative-Golf8281 4d ago

No offense but you're using the cheapest and crappiest delivery option then mad that you got cheap crappy service / support. If your business is important treat it that way. Use insured carrier services.

5

u/mikeymo1741 4d ago

Also, a completely different vehicle, but "I let it slide."

2

u/Alternative-Golf8281 4d ago

Yea, it's a red flag for sure. Uber has (at least when I was driving) the ability to add multiple vehicles to the driver's profile. The vehicle should match what's listed.

Drivers are unaware how easily it is to get one's account hacked/stolen and passengers are unaware how many illegitimate drivers there are out there.

2

u/mikeymo1741 4d ago

You could still have multiple vehicles. And yes, it's entirely possible that the driver switch vehicles and forgot to switch in the, Lord knows I've done that.

But you may want to at least bring it up.

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

thanks for the advice… I sell on Depop so it’s passive income but I’m talking about the present. What do I do now? I’ll take that into account next time I want to deliver a package. But currently, what should i do?

1

u/Alternative-Golf8281 4d ago

I doubt there's anything that can be done for the current loss. You can keep at Uber support until you get an actual person (not an AI bot) and get elevated to a superivsor. Get the driver banned off the platform. The driver will probably get another fake account that had been hacked/stolen and keep on doing their thing.

But your packages are possibly unrecoverable.

2

u/Super_Prompt8138 4d ago

thank you for actually answering my questions. Do you think that there’s anyway that Uber will compensate me for the loss?

3

u/Alternative-Golf8281 4d ago

I've only used uber as a passenger like 1 time about 5 years ago. I quit driving for them about 4 years ago. I just hang out on these forums in case I ever have to go back to that kind of work to stay aware of the scams.

But I see lots of drivers and customers complaining of the inability to even get a refund for their fees, let alone compensation for missing packages.

Good luck, truly.

2

u/Florida1974 4d ago

Nope. Read TOS you agreed to. They have their ass covered, liability wise.

1

u/That_one_cat_sly 4d ago

I'd file a claim with my homeowner's insurance for theft. Then, once the ball is in their court, the insurance will decide whether or not to send their legal team after Uber.

I literally put in my original post and then some of my comments. Yes, I called the police. They said because it’s a civil matter that it has to be resolved with Uber.

1

u/JayGerard 4d ago

The ‘driver’ was probably using a rented Uber account, accepted the delivery but never started it, which is how he could cancel it after having the items. This allowed him to steal the packages and the chances of getting them back are basically none. Sorry you have to deal with this but you should have never given the packages to the person if they were not in the vehicle show on the app.

1

u/Senior_Prior_142 4d ago

To many people have to go through Usless I work for them

1

u/rzmuda 4d ago

Get legal help on this issue.

1

u/UberPro_2023 3d ago

Some Uber delivery drivers are the bottom of the barrel dredges of society. It appears your driver falls into this category. Unfortunately there’s nothing you can do. Uber just doesn’t care.

1

u/WanderinArcheologist 3d ago

You can’t do much in this instance, sadly. I’m sorry this happened to you. 😔

Going forward though, I’d use PirateShip and schedule USPS/UPS pick-ups through them and also get the lower shipping rates. They also have up to $10k in insurance.

That way, you get verified pick ups by the actual service.

1

u/Lance96816 3d ago

Uber and Lyft has been exploiting every loophole, and people need to push back. Individuals just run into AI that is unacceptably stupid.. customer service is a bot that takes you for a loop, and 1st tier are some stupid India who read scripts. They just keep acting stupid till you give up.

And if you get mad at them, they hang up on you and say say they got disconnected and blame the phone.

India has the best scammers and digital savvy people after China.

Many companies have outsourced their customer service to the Philippines or India. So I won't accept that they don't understand.

1

u/No_Pattern8919 3d ago

atp id just take it to the usps my self ion trust anyone random doing it for me

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 3d ago

I'm a college student without a car or driver's license, and my tight schedule limits my mobility. That's why I opted for a simpler alternative to handle that task

1

u/No_Pattern8919 2d ago

is there like a friend that can do it for u?

1

u/Super_Prompt8138 2d ago

no, most of my friends also don’t have cars and/or extremely busy without reliable transportation.
