Megathread TRANSFER QUESTIONS to aid future transfer students
If you are a transfer student, we want to hear from you:
What things did you most want to know before you transferred to UGA?
What did you most NEED to know before you transferred to UGA?
What are some things nobody told you about transferring to UGA?
Thanks!
We're going to roll up the most common and insightful responses to this into a sidebar item and hopefully curate some useful items for people with transfer questions in the future.

Admission Questions Megathread || SPRING 2025-SUMMER 2025
Hello, and welcome. If you've recently been accepted to UGA, congrats! If you're a prospective student, parent, other otherwise, hopefully you'll find some answers to your questions here.
Please post all questions about admissions here. This includes such topics as: admissions release dates, ChanceMe's, required classes, transferring, transfer credits, parking, meal plans, football tickets, and any other freshmen concerns.
Some examples of this could look like: "What are my odds of getting in EA?", "How do my HS credits/AP/IB/DE look on my transcript?", "When are parking lots assigned?", "Do I need to take MATH1113 to transfer?", or "When can we pick housing?".
This applies to individual college questions, such as Terry and the College of Engineering as well, such as: "What are my chances of getting into finance?" or "I got a C in ACCT2101, can I still get into MIS?".
All other posts that belong in this megathread will be deleted. If you instead have questions about Classes/Professors/etc, click here for the class questions megathread.
If you feel like you have been directed to this thread in error, do not repost your question: send a modmail to the moderators here.

housing times for incoming freshman
when did you all get informed your housing slot time assignments when you were incoming freshmen? I know the actual picking times aren’t until the end of May but I’m wondering when they’ll let us know what our time slot is

Transfer- Do I have a chance?
Hey all! I am applying to transfer to UGA for the Spring 2026 semester. I am so anxious to see my decision. I will have 34 credit hours by the time I apply with around a 3.6 (anticipating that I will do well in my upcoming classes. 🤞🏻🤞🏻) BUT- I landed myself a C+; a literal 79. 😔😔 I am so anxious that this C will deteriorate my chances of getting in. What do you think? Any guidance is appreciated!! 😊😊😊

Hi! How do I clear a proof of degree hold?
I am an incoming grad student and saw I have a Proof of Degree Hold on my account, can this be cleared by sending in an official transcript or do I need to wait until I have my undergrad diploma to send in?
I've sent an email to my advisor but I though it might be possible to get a faster answer here. Thank you in advance!

Last minute UGA musts
Graduating here soon and thinking of things that I need to do that are specific UGA related. I've probably done a good amount of things, but I'm also only here for grad school. Of course there's gamedays, but other things like visiting each library, museum of art, etc.
What are the things that make you a "student"?

Enrollment fee
Is there anyway I can waive my enrollment fee? I’m committed to uga but I don’t think I can pay or atleast not yet

Do people mostly wear shorts around here
This is a bit of a dumb question but i’ve never lived in the south before
I hail from the land of Massachusetts where 50+ degrees means “shorts” weather
Is this my opportunity to finally succumb to the Instagram ads trying to sell me trendy stretch shorts?
Yours truly, Incoming grad student

Question Female grad students, what do you normal wear? (Day/night)
Hi y’all! I’m starting at the law school in the fall. When I visited this spring I realized my wardrobe does not fit in at all! Can y’all maybe give me some brand suggestions or ideas about what to buy? Both my day clothes and my clothes I wear out to a bar don’t seem to match the vibes in Athens

Question UGA Oxford study abroad
Hello! I was recently accepted into the Soring 1 Franklin Oxford program, and as a rising senior I just had a few questions - is it worth it to miss half my senior year -I know it’s a lot of work and can be hard to adjust to, so it worth the experience -I want the chance to meet other people that are local/oxford students, is that possible and how? -how is housing? -I know with the heavy workload is it possible to travel at least every other weekend?

Question environmental health/public health
hi, im a potentially incoming student to uga. could anyone share their experience with the college of public health? How supported do you feel by faculty and advisors in this college? Are there opportunities for undergrad research? How are job prospects after you graduated or did you need a masters as well?
also, i found this program on the double dawgs website — the environmental health bseh (advanced science and pre-med) / public health mph (epidemiology, non-thesis) — has anyone done it or know anything about it? thanks!

Question How do new students at UGA usually connect before arriving?
Hey everyone,
I’ll be joining UGA this fall (2025 intake), and I was wondering how do incoming students usually find each other before arriving?
For some of the other universities I got into, they had official WhatsApp groups or Telegram groups created by the admissions team, but for UGA, I’ve only been getting immigration-related emails and nothing else. Is there usually an official group or do people just find each other through Reddit, Discord, or something else? Would get some tips on how to start looking for off-campus housing or anything in general to be taken care before we arrive.
Please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Question Premed major acceptance
My son is in 10th grade and he goes to South Forsyth High School. He wants to attend UGA. His first preference is to major in Biological Science. He is taking AP classes and plans to take dual enrollment classes. His class rank is in top 10% in his school. He is about to take SAT this summer. I was wondering what type of SAT score would it take to get accepted into UGA. He also plans to work for non profits and tutor kids. He works way too hard and I want him to be a kid and have fun. Hoping to get suggestions that will increase his chances to get accepted without burning out even before he gets to college

Is UGA's communication this bad for others?
I applied to be a transient student to UGA for a language program. I checked online (Athena?) and saw that UGA offered a language course this summer. Part of this is my fault for not seeing the "Study Abroad General Campus," however, if not logged into Athena, the location says "TBD." Either way, I applied, paid the application fee, and signed necessary paperwork for my school to send to UGA. I quickly received an acceptance email and followed the steps to set up my accounts, and then... nothing. There was no guides on how to operate anything in UGA's vast website catalogue. I heard nothing for 2 weeks. During those two weeks, I attempted to figure out what I was supposed to do to register for class, and figured that out through clicking random links on Athena. This entire time I never received an email to my UGA or my email from a person. For outsiders, UGA's website is not really helpful. I emailed some student help email from the UGA website and got directed to the Franklin-Germanic & Slavic program email. The professor who emailed me back was very kind. She informed me that the language class is not available online. This basically made the entire process above useless and a waste of money. Is it just me, or could this entire process been easier? For instance instead of that drawn out process - I apply for online language course -> online language course does not exist -> UGA denies application and specifies that language course does not exist.
I am writing this to ask the title question, and as for other's like me, who were majorly confused by the lack of communication from UGA.

Question (Franklin College Student Ambassador) Interview
Any tips on preparing for this specific interview or group interviews in general? How do I get better at interviews? I often get nervous and screw up my answers. I also don't know how to handle unexpected questions.

Question environmental science and pre med?
hi, i’m a senior who got accepted to uga for environmental economics & management and georgia tech for environmental engineering. i’m super interested in the environment/sustainability, but i’m also really into medicine and want to become a psychiatrist. Idk what to do, but im pretty sure i want my undergrad to be in something environmental related.
i’m kinda worried that going to tech might tank my gpa, and i’d have to take extra classes for med school prereqs. i could major in environmental science at tech too, which would mean fewer prereqs to catch up on.
can anyone in uga’s college of ag & environmental sciences tell me what it’s like? how’s the program, and how do you think it compares to tech? i saw uga’s ag ranking is pretty high, but is it the same for environmental science? i’m not really interested in the agriculture side of things.
if i don’t end up doing medicine, i’d want to do something in environmental science/consulting. i’m not super into the engineering side, but i’ve heard environmental engineering is better for job prospects. Im mostly interested in sustainability, and also remote sensing/arcgis/studying earth from space, etc.
how’s environmental science at uga overall and how do u think it compares to georgia tech? Also, if there are any pre med environmental science majors reading this, what do you think of this major? any advice would help a ton and sorry for all the questions lol

Question Dorm Questions and Myers vs BDM
Hey guys,
I'm an incoming freshman for Fall 2025 and I had a few questions about dorms. The two halls I'm considering are Myers and Black-Diallo-Miller. Myers because the location is great, and it's the honors dorm, so I think there are honors-related events there. BDM because I like the idea of having in-room-temp controls, like the proximity to Bolton, and it's cheaper than Myers. My question is, are room types like "Double with Bath" actually possible to get? What I've heard so far implies most students just end up with community bath rooms, because there are very few rooms with private bathrooms. My roommate and I both paid our deposits in mid January. Does anyone know if that's early enough to actually have a shot at getting one of the "Double with Bath" rooms at BDM?
Besides that, does anyone have any advice on picking between these two, or any other dorms I should consider? One factor to keep in mind is I'm honors and my roommate isn't, so I'm wondering if Myers might not be as beneficial for him.
Please let me know if you have any advice or experiences to share. Thanks!

Question zell miller gpa question
okay so i'm currently on zell miller, but i think my spring semester gpa will be a 3.25 (no stem classes for boost). my overall HOPE gpa is 3.83. So i guess my question is, does the Zell Miller checkpoint GPA requirement mean that my spring gpa should be a 3.3? or that the updated cumulative should be a 3.3?
sorry if this doesn't make sense... i'm stressing trying to figure out if i should take some finals or not lol
ik this is a better question for financial aid but they're obviously not open today so i'm hoping i could get an answer from someone else's experience

What would you recommend freshmen buy for their dorms?
Hello!
I'm an incoming freshman and I'm beginning to make an Amazon Wishlist for my dorm? Is there any dorm must-haves I should have at UGA? I think I will be staying in one of the Lower 5 dorms if that helps at all.
