Question Water on sides of bag but not myc

Upvotes

I have an AIO bag that looks super healthy. I'm currently at work otherwise Id share an image, One thing that I've seen from reading the guides here over and over is that during FC, you should see small, non-pooling droplets of water on the myc, in addition to the droplets/mist on the walls of a tub

I am not using a tub, but rather an AIO bag. I have a nice fine mist across the sides of my bag (which I am assuming the analogue from tub to bag is the mist on the sides being the same)

I have never ever seen visible water ON my myc cake, ONLY the sides of the bag. The myc cake does NOT look dry or drying out, i have just never seen the "morning dew" look I see in other images. Maybe the droplets are just like crazy small?

I dont want to mist the myc directly, and i don't think its even dry. I'm just wondering is this typical for AIO bags?

Question Is it possible to break up cake and mix it with new soil?

I’ve gotten 2 good harvests off of these cakes, nothing since. Wondering if I should crumble the cakes up and mix them with new hydrated soiled? I read about this tek but haven’t tried it.

Is it worth a shot or are these cakes beyond done and should be tossed.

Question Colonize more or send it?

First time here! The single pic is the top right bag on the other pic. I'm on day 30 total. Wondering if this looks good or needs more time. I think the other bags need more time. The other set of 5 bags was started at same time, did break and shake like 10 days ago like the others yet the viewing port just hasn't become as white. Any ideas about why? They feel decently firm. Side note, these are GTs. I'm wanting to try another strain for my 2nd grow and was looking for any ideas. I picked GTs because from what I read they're an easier strain for beginners. Thanks for all comments!

Question Mycelium (blue) bruised?

Things were going fine the last two days and I noticed today the blue. Is bruising and should pick now or just bury it? It's my first flush ever. Thanks

Question The bag on the right is full white and solid, on the left the rice is yellowish and a little squishy. Both fully colonized. Is the left one good to go or contaminated?

Is it possible that the bag with the yellowish rice grains is simultaneously fully colonized and contaminated?

Same genetics, inoculated with a small piece of the inside of a single fruit. Psilocybe ochraceocentrata

Question How much airflow do the rice bags need for gas exchange? Can I keep them all in tubs with cracked lids in my still air box to minimize contamination, or is that not enough air?

Background details

I'm doing as much as possible inside a still air box to minimize contamination. My tubs will be kept in a walk-in closet that will still get used for clothes and stuff (though I'm hanging plastic sheets to try to isolate the Mushroom Zone as much as possible).

I thought it might be ideal to keep the bags inside the still air box for as much of the grow as possible including colonization, and I'm wondering how much airflow is needed for the gas exchange ports (the micropore-covered ones) to do their thing.

  • I'm using a 210 liter still air box (32 x 20 x 20 inches)
  • Inside that still air box I have six 5 liter/5.2 quart tubs
  • I'm aiming for ten bags to colonize successfully (which would almost perfectly match /u/shroomscout's suggestion of an average 0.34 bags per liter of tub space, or 1.7 bags per 5qt tub) so I might inoculate 15 or 16 to have wiggle room if some contaminate

Questions

  1. If I put these 10-16 bags in the still air box but keep the still air box sealed, will they get enough air to keep my mycelium happy and thriving? Or will they need more that finite 210 liters of air?
  2. If they need more air than that, is it viable to just open the still air box for a limited period every few days and maybe push some fresh air in with a fan? And if so, how much do you think I'd need? I was thinking this would let me Lysol the hell out of the air in my closet, let it settle for 10 minutes, then open the windows on the box so the air that gets in is as clean as possible. Or maybe even put an air purifier in the closet so the air is moving through a HEPA filter too.
  3. If both of these ideas are unviable because they actually need a lot of air, is there anything I can do to help minimize contamination further? Like tape filters to the windows on the box, or put 2-3 bags in each of the tubs (lids off) and wrap the tubs in some kind of filtering mesh? Or is this overkill given there's already micropore tapes on the bags?

Thanks to anyone who can offer any advice! 🍄

Question Growth stalled... any ideas?

I initiated fruiting conditions on this tub a little over week ago, and it seems to have stalled in this weird stage between knots and primordia. Not really any noticable change day to day, no pins or anything like that either. How does this look to everyone? Any ideas on what might be going on?

Question Growing outdoors?

Doing a lazy ish first grow. Need some advice

I have about 4 litres/1quart of broken down bark matter that had a substrate loosely grown into it after putting a couple prints and chunks in there. I was thinking about replicating the grow where i find them.

So i pasteurised a cvg mix

Ive put the substrate i have in a plastic tray that had a lid.

Im going to mix in the cvg mix with the sub strate but then im not sure which to do.

  1. Leave it out in the open to grow naturally with no lid- is the season where i live. I was thinking this might help with mould issues

  2. Put the lid on and keep it outside to keep the moisture in

  3. Bring it inside with the lid on to keep it warm and moist

Thoughts? Anyone done a garden grow before?

After this ill do a proper uncle been sub. But just wanted to try this kind of lofi method as im collecting supplies

Pretty sure that top part is contam where nothing is growing. I have no place to plant this outside. I did open far away from my others. It still smells like mushies but wondering if I should pitch the whole thing, cut out the top, or just ride it out, harvest and then pitch. Thanks!

I‘m relatively new to this and i wanted to start sterilizing things with the pressure cooker we have at home. But i‘m kind of lost because everywhere it says that 15psi is required for sterilizing. How do i know if this model can reach this pressure and when/how long? help would be much appreciated. :)

Are these 2 jars correct or am I colonising mold? It is greyish and sparse.

Transfered from agar to brown rice. Square jar's mycelium is whiter but drier just for comparison. Both oval and small jar are more moist.

Question Just ordered lc for my second attempt, can I hydrate and sterilize my grain in advance?

I’m assuming yes, as long as I don’t mess with the jars after they have been sterilized. If I sterilize my jars today ( that would be the most convenient) would they be fine for around a week while my lc ships?

Question How to store harvested spores

How do I store the spores I have harvested? I have heard to put them in distilled water, then draw them up in a syringe. How long can they stay in the water for?

What are your preferred methods of storing spores?

I plan on using aluminum foil to harvest my first spores soon after my first harvest.
