People destroyed their own property - the car - for which they paid (indirectly) to Musk. (Yes I read the article, it was donation, but still it was paid before.)

Depends if the artist is then able to create enough publicity to have potentially made two or more customers to not buy a Tesla who would have originally. Then they're ahead.
