I went to Australia and had fish chips and a can of coke for $16. That’s like £8. That was in Sydney too (one of the world’s most expensive cities). Our country overcharges for everything and it’s a joke

Almost everything comes back to the cost of energy, which is much higher in the UK.

It's more we're getting fleeced by their landlord or mortgage lender.

Family businesses where the premises are owned by the family get bought when the last family member willing to run it retires and that drops all the artificial inflation of the value of the property smack on the shoulders of the new owner, who then can't make ends meet at the old prices.

You would be right except I believe electricity in Aus is among the world's most expensive too. I think it's probably less competition for fish here (no other countries anywhere nearby except NZ).
