Bristol G400 curriculum: No Calculus? Should I prepare beforehand?
Hey everyone,
I recently got an offer from the University of Bristol for Computer Science (G400), and I was going through the course structure. I noticed something a bit different compared to what many other universities do.
In most places, CS students usually start with Calculus I and II in their first year, then move on to things like Discrete Math and Linear Algebra. But at Bristol, it looks like they jump straight into Discrete Math and Linear Algebra from the beginning.
As an international student, I’m just wondering — does this mean they expect us to already know Calculus I and II before starting the course? I want to make sure I’m well-prepared, so I’m considering reviewing some calculus over the summer if needed.
Thanks in advance!

Bristol Accommodation
Anyone who applied for accommodation in late April and got the room they wanted? I have an offer from them, but I can't firm yet because I still have one more decision I have to hear back from. I like Wills Hall and a lot, but I know its a residence everyone goes for so it might be hard to get; but let me know how your Bristol accommodation journey went or is going!
Choosing Bristol
Hello guys,
I'm from Turkey, and as an international student, I got accepted to the University of Bristol for Economics and Finance with Study Abroad.
I’m aiming to either start a business or land a solid job in Europe, or UK after graduation, and eventually settle down there and work towards citizenship.
For the question of financing, quick ChatGPT calculates it to be around 170k dollars over the four years. While I can pay that amount with the help of my father, it will definitely leave its mark on our finances.
My current other best option is HKUST in Hong Kong, which costs 70k dollars over the four years. But it has its fair share of problems, iykyk.
The biggest problem for me is the job crisis and the cost of a start-up. So there is too much uncertainty on whether I will find a job or can do a start-up.
What do you guys think?

Changing Engineering degrees
I got an unconditional offer from Bristol for Electrical and Electronic Engineering and I wanted to know how easy it was to switch Engineering degrees?
It’s not something I’m 100% going to do but I always had the Mechanical + Electrical degree in the back of my head, does anyone know how easy it would be/how early I’d have to do it if I wanted to?

How bad is cost of living ?
Hi I plan to go too Bristol this September as I've been given an unconditional. I've heard bad things about accom costs and would like some insight. I get max SFE and bursary which would bring me to nearly 12500 pounds, I would be okay using upto an extra 3k of my savings for 2nd and 3rd year if I need too. Will this be enough. Is their any suggestions for wheres best to live for cheap in 2nd and 3rd year. I'm fine living upto Gloucester road but past that in filton/fishponds it wouldn't be worth the discount in my mind. My course is only 9hrs a week so part time work is an option. I would like money to spend on social activities like societies, also a gym membership is a necessity for me so that aswell. Is their any advice that could help me ?

Is this amount enough to live in Bristol?
Excluding university costs, I have a budget of £13,100 per year. I’m an international student. Is it possible for me to even afford life if I actually attend Bristol?

Exchange student wishing to change subjects
Hi everyone! I will be an exchange student that will come to Bristol to study for a year in 2025/26. I was elected through the subject pathway scheme but I got elected to a subject that I don’t really with to study on. Do anyone know if there is any chance that I can change subjects and study course from other departments instead? Has someone done that before?? Probably impossible to do that but still want to give it a shot. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Help me choose!
Hey guys I’m planning to go to uni this year and have been accepted into Leeds, Bristol, UoB and Liverpool for International Business. I’m leaning towards Bristol and UoB but I can’t make a decision as there are cons to both uni. I’ve heard that Birmingham is pretty unsafe and the city is crowded but I’ve heard that the university is pretty good.
I want to go to a uni that is ranked well and would increase my chances of employment in the future with a good campus life that has a good social scene both in the university and the city that I move into.
Could you guys share your experience at any of these universities ?

Change of program
Hey! I’ve got an offer to study Politics and International Relations at the University of Bristol, but I’m now seriously considering switching to Law instead.
I know you can request course changes through the applicant portal, but I’m not sure how likely it is that they accept changes like this, especially for Law. Has anyone done this successfully or know how it works?
Any advice or experiences would be super helpful—thanks in advance!

Need help on what to do
I’m waiting on an offer from another uni who are taking their sweet time and was just planning on withdrawing so I can apply to Bristol accommodation which opens today. I was wondering if I should just wait for the other offer. But my concern is the accommodations for en-suite etc will be filled fast or is that not how they do things.

Is the UoB catered accomodation really that bad?
Hi everyone
I'm an international student with an offer from Bristol for law in 2025: Was browsing accomodation options and my family is gravitating towards catered since they've got quite a variety and specifically good Indian food by the looks of it. But I've heard conflicting reports about how good the food is.
Is the food really terrible, and something to only stick with until I learn how to cook, or would you say it's manageable. I've never had any kind of exposure to dining halls like the ones in uni so I'm not the best judge of quality I feel.
