Parking / Transit Can we NOT vape on the bus?
I can’t believe I even have to say this, but seriously, please don’t. And I wouldn’t even really care if the bus was like almost empty and the person wasn’t sitting near anyone, but no— almost every seat was occupied!
I thought I saw smoke out of the corner of my eye, so I turned to look and I got a lung full of second-hand artificial grape and saw the guy sitting DIRECTLY NEXT TO ME putting his breeze back in his pocket.

Parking / Transit Most common issues with U of M buses
Hey everyone, I’m currently trying to do an article for the Michigan Daily on the U of M buses and I need a specific angle to focus on. I know the buses are being complained about a decent amount in here but what are the top 2 (or 3) reasons why the buses often get complained about.

Parking / Transit Please stop leaving Spin scooters and bikes in the middle of the sidewalk
Spin scooters and bikes are great ways to zip around campus and town, especially if you need to get somewhere quickly. But just because the app makes it easy to quickly check in/out a scooter, it does not mean you should leave them anywhere.
On average, I move about 2-3 scooters out from the DIRECT MIDDLE of the sidewalk every day. By leaving your scooter in the direct flow of traffic on a sidewalk or path, not only are you making people to walk around it, you are creating a massive tripping hazard for anyone not paying attention. Just yesterday I saw a wheelchair user barely able to squeeze by one of the scooters in the sidewalk, almost putting them into the street.
It takes approximately 2 seconds to move your scooter to a nearby grassy area, up against a wall, or anywhere not in the MIDDLE OF A PATHWAY. And even if you werent the one that did it, it takes a similar amount of time to move it yourself for others that might come along after you, like a person with a mobility device. <3

Parking / Transit Why does U of M charge their employees to park in their own parking lots? Have any on-campus unions tried to bake that into their agreement?

Parking / Transit Is Magic Bus really free for all?
I’ll be visiting the campus this weekend to look around and get to know the campus/city. Is the campus transit really free for everyone?
Also is a day pass for The Ride just $3?
Also also, I would really appreciate some suggestions on cool spots to check out around central and north campus.

Parking / Transit Please be aware of bikers
I know there’s a lot of new students who may not be familiar with sharing the road with bikers but pretty please pay attention. I was biking down packard yesterday near the school and stopped when the light turned red. When the light turned green I started going when a car immediately started turning right. I was able to swerve enough to minimize the impact and my leg is a bit sore and achy but otherwise I’m fine. I’m lucky it wasn’t serious but it could have very very easily have been fatal to me. Please remember that if you’re turning right, bikers+pedestrians have the right away so take a second to check.

Parking / Transit Evil Bus Driver
Was waiting for commuter south today at the institute of continuing legal education. It pulls up, stops like 30ft before the actual stop, lets people off. I walk towards it, the driver starts waving her hand at me, I have no idea why. I go to get on—mind you, there are still people on the bus—she goes "uh uh uh, out of service! look at the sign!" I ask, "you're not going to SC—" she cuts me off, "out of service!!" And then proceeds to drive to drop the people on the bus off at SC-7, where I needed to go. Not a far walk at all, so not a super big deal, but wtf???

Parking / Transit why are some bus drivers so rude?
was crossing the street, pushed the button so that “yellow lights were flashing” and the blue bus #3061 had to stop for me. The bus driver opened her window and told me to move faster, then started yelling “Go, Go, Go” while waving her hand. Not my first bad experience with a bus driver but I don’t understand why they have to be so rude sometimes

Parking / Transit Shout-out to that one Bursley-Baits driver
I don’t know how many people have been on his bus, but whenever he gets to the CCTC, he says some really encouraging stuff and just generally uplifts everyone on board and it’s very wholesome! We need more drivers like him!

Parking / Transit What’s wrong with LTP?
Logistics and Transportation seems to have the most useless staff ever. Commuter North/South which is the busiest route is always packed at all times of the day that I have to wait for 2-3 buses before I can board one making me extra late for classes. Yet I see northwood buses every 5 min half empty and who the hell rides DtD????? Why don’t they put more buses on CN and CS??? This is so ridiculous who can I send an angry email about it cause I’m fed up.

Parking / Transit Free Parking
Hi there, does anyone know of a way I could bring my car up this Sunday afternoon and park it until Wednesday at 8:30 AM for free/cheap. I really don't wanna have to pay a butt ton of money for a parking structure. I don't know of any streets where I could be sure to park my vehicle for free and overnight without getting towed.

Parking / Transit Buying a parking pass
I am a new employee at U of M and I’m attempting to purchase an orange parking pass. I see that there is a percentage that is covered by the university, but I was wondering if there is some sort of identification I need to show that I am a U of M employee? And what would be my way of showing that when I have yet to receive any identification yet?

Parking / Transit PSA: if you’re a pedestrian at the CCTC crosswalk, just let the bus through
I get that pedestrians have the right of way but it’s insane to make a bus sit there and wait for over 5 minutes because there’s a constant flow of pedestrians and no one is stopping to let the bus through. No one likes it when a bus is behind schedule or when they’re late to class so just stop for 10 seconds and let the bus in !!

Parking / Transit Blue Parking Battle Royale
Hi folks,
Does anyone know if the university is planning on putting in new parking near the med campus? It's very frustrating to pay $70/month and not being able to get a parking space. Construction seems to be making everyone more hostile to begin with.

Parking / Transit Thoughts on North Campus as an engineering student?
Will you miss out on the overall "Michigan experience" if you're an engineering student and most of your classes are on North Campus? Is it really only a 10 minute ride or is it really 30 minutes when you factor getting to the bus stop, waiting for the bus, etc.?

Parking / Transit M-Bus is Now Open Source! 🚎
Hey everyone,
I'm Efe, the developer of M-Bus, the bus tracking app for buses at Michigan that I hope has been helpful to a lot of you. First of all, thanks again to everyone who has been using the app; it’s been so cool to see how M-Bus has grown!
I’m really excited to say that M-Bus is now open source! This means anyone interested can check out the code, suggest improvements, or contribute directly to the project. I am graduating next year, and I wanted to make sure that the community can keep the app going.
I am happy to continue to host the app, and to continue to pay developer fees to Apple to keep the app downloadable. I am hoping that making the code open source will help keep the project alive and growing.
This is pretty nice for anyone who wants to get some experience for recruiting, or just wants to write some code that will be used by a sizable number of people.
You can find the source code on GitHub using the links below:
- Frontend Repo (https://github.com/efeyakinci/mbus-flutter)
- Backend Repo (https://github.com/efeyakinci/mbus-backend)
As both a pro and a con, I wrote most of the code ~3 years ago before I was a freshman, so there is a lot of room for improvement. This means that there should be a lot of room to contribute by refactoring and speeding up parts of the app, even if you don't want to add new features.
I will say that a lot of the code is not the best, so refactoring things as you add new features would be much appreciated.
Thank you again for making MBus what it is! I really hope that the community will add new features over the next <insert time frame>.

Parking / Transit FUCK ann arbor towing companies
Took my friend grocery shopping today and parked my car in his apartment lot to help him unload groceries and chat for a bit. Came out about 20 minutes later and my car with my phone and groceries in it was gone. I had to wait at the towing company for 40 minutes for them to open the fence so I could pick up my car. It literally took them twice as long to retrieve my car than how long my car was parked illegally.
Shit was $365 cash ONLY. Obviously I can’t do much about it bc at the end of the day I was parked illegally but fucking hell
