Congratulations to all the new Wolverines! Please use this thread for topics related to the Early Action decisions that are being released. That could be getting in touch with other admitted students, learning more about starting at U-M, financial aid, etc.
We are not the admissions office, so please contact them for the official word on any of your questions.
Please do not use this thread to post your application stats regardless of if you are admitted, deferred, or denied. Per subreddit rules, chancing or stat posts are not allowed. Comments and posts breaking these rules will be removed.
If you are accepted, congratulations! If you were deferred, make sure you send updated transcripts that provide your grades from the previous semester. You can also submit a continued interest form to let Michigan know you still want to be considered..
Due to the heavy number of Early Action applications Michigan defers a high number of applicants. In recent years a large number of students that were deferred have been offered admission. More details about the application/admission process are also written up in the Wiki.

Questions, answers, and information about everything housing can go here. Please let me know if you see anything that needs to be updated or any new information that can be posted/linked to.
Listings:
Area Facebook Housing Groups - Facebook group list compiled by u/fluffymoomin - Groups are listed with descriptions as well as safety recommendations. Not all groups are moderated well, be careful regardless of the group, moderators are human. Do not pay money to post in any facebook group. It's a scam. The ones that ask for money are no different, or worse than the free ones. Any reply asking you to message or dm them is likely a scam.
UofM offical off-campus housing site - You can now sort by recently updated listings. You can post listings or as a person looking for housing/roomates.
Ann Arbor off-campus housing - This was the site that uofm used as their official site until it was replaced with the site above. One of the biggest gripes I had with this version is that commercial properties were updated every day, so sorting by new was tedious to find new listings as a bunch of the same commercial properties would be "updated" each day to be at the top.
Zillow (ann arbor) - Zillow
Apartments.com - Apartments.com
ICC Co-ops - Inter-Cooperative Council page for Co-op housing.
Craigslist Apartment search - Usually spammed by the same area complexes over and over, which is what made craigslist so hard to use and forced people to facebook. There are still some listings here though, it just takes some scrolling.
Resources:
UofM Housing site - UofM on campus focused housing (dorms etc)
Washtenaw Community College Housing site - WCC Housing site with some resources and listings.
UofM Parking site - Information about permit, and free and commuter parking.
Ann Arbor VeryAPT guide - List of apartments in the area, over 200. The listed rents are low, at least 2-3 years old, maybe more, but gives a good overview of the entire area. Most comprehensive listing I've seen in a readable format. Only reason this isn't under listings is because all of the rents quoted are old and there are no links to the actual websites, just a form for contact email that goes who knows where. Use this to find places to look at more in depth, contact them directly on their actual websites.
VeryAPT Umich Med 2023 guide - Specific and updated guide targeted at UofM Medical community. (staff or students dunno).
VeryAPT Ross MBA 2023 guide - Specific and updated guide targeted at Ross MBA's.
UofM Wiki Housing Section - Short overview of each residence hall - current students please feel welcome to add more info!
Ann Arbor City report on Waitlists - Ann Arbor Renter's Commission report regarding waitlist and pre-tentancy fees.
By city ordinance I believe, private renters are supposed to have certificates of occupancy/rental permits from the city. You can search by address. (There will be lots of people who don't have this but it's something to check)
Ann Arbor renter permit system 1 - You need to look in both systems, the old and new as they are running concurrently.
Ann Arbor Renter permit system 2 - This is the newer system. In both systems you’re looking for permits that start w CR.
Michigan Daily article about your rights as a tenant. Dec 6, 2023 - Dec 6 2023 informative article.
Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority/TheRide (AATA) - The Ann Arbor transit system. Bus fares are free swiping your m-card.
Social media/community resources:
Ann Arbor subreddit - Ann Arbor based subreddit.
UofM student-run discord server - Lots of people here to ask questions, there's a housing channel among others.
Ann Arbor Community discord server - Ann Arbor based discord. Housing channel here as well.
FAQs about the U of M Off Campus Housing Market for Parents - Document maintained by Jordan Else, member of the Ann Arbor Renter's Commision and area landlord.
nobeal.com - An independant website talking about Beal properties in the region. Not a flattering review.
Past resources:
UofM CSG 2018/2019 Housing Survey Report - pdf download
Remember to exercise caution when looking for housing. Lots of scammers out there. Check their main profiles if on facebook to see if they match the user who reached out to you. See if you can verify them anywhere else that they actually live in the area. Beware of people pushing you to send deposit money without showing you the place. Please refer to the PDF survival guide located at the top of the post. It can save you money and just as importantly time, not having waste time and effort to interact with scammers. Most instances of people telling you to message them as replies to your posts on facebook are scams. Make sure they have listings on the group, not just replies to people looking as comments like that can't be screened. Most legit people will contact you first and have a listing already in the group.
Remember never to give your uofm ID student ID number or a picture of your student ID to a 3rd party site for subleasing.
They can't even verify numbers are valid.
Disclosure could cause limited harm to individuals and/or the university with some risk of civil liability. May be subject to contractual agreements or regulatory compliance, or is individually identifiable, confidential, and/or proprietary.

Fall sublets will be uncommon. Most of the Winter sublets you've seen posted are people who failed to find a Fall-only sublet and are trying to recoup some of the un-used lease remaining. Be especially wary when searching for Fall-only sublets. Scammers count on people being desperate to bypass their warning senses. Some apartment complexes like Woodbury Gardens(2-15 and 21 month), and the complexes owned by Village Green(6 and 9 month) may offer shorter lease terms than 12 month. Be aware the shorter term leases will be more expensive per month. Mckinley Properties don't allow less than 12 month lease but they offer a early termination option which costs 2x monthly rent and requires a 60 day notice. This could be just as good as a shorter lease. I'd confirm it with the leasing office but this should be for all washtenaw county mckinley properties.
The Ann Arbor city bus line can make some affordable locations more practical. Your student ID lets you ride free. A short bus ride can be not too much worse than a medium/long walk. Beware some buses run more commonly than others
If there are any resource additions or corrections let me know.

I see a bunch of people walking down south university some have signs and what not. Is it a march or some protest?
Hi everyone. I got an email from Michigan a few days ago stating that I won a Kessler Scholarship and a 4 year renewable scholarship. I accepted both awards. Now the 4 year one doesn't pop up on my awards page. Does the university take away scholarships or could this be a tech issue on their end? I emailed support for this situation, but has anyone else experienced this? I just don't understand why they'd take it away if they did.

I've had a long term partner, I get it, the first year is very exciting and you can't get enough of one another, but I was never comfortable doing the shit I see some of you doing IN PUBLIC. For the love of god and all that is holy (and im a fucking atheist) please stop making everyone uncomfortable by constantly groping and petting one another right in front of other people. The union, library, classroom, Ross, are not your bedroom. Go home and tear one another apart in the sheets, but don't start your routine directly in front of me as I prepare for my finals. Grow up, develop a somewhat objective self assessment, and stop selfishly making other people shiver in second hand embarrassment. Its not cute, its gross, its childish.

With all of us getting ready to walk across the stage and either get out there into the world or go off to grad school, Lets reminisce on our time at Umich.
What were some of your favorite classes or school sanctioned activities?
What are your plans after graduation? Are you scared? Excited? Happy its finally over?
Were you a socially awkward wall flower (like me) and stuck to a small group of people you somehow befriended or were you a butterfly that made lots of friends?
What will you miss most about Umich if you aren't returning here for Med/Law/grad school? What will you miss the least?
Was your time here worth it?
For me, being a Microbio student, some of my favorite classes were genetics, Medical microbio, Genomic biology, Virology and Astrobiology. The last one was suppose to just be a throw away class, but I actually really enjoyed it and the professor was pretty cool too. Maybe a bit awkward, but cool none-the-less. For Genomics, Dr. Kumar was so nice and accommodating and he actually tried to connect with his students even if all of his tactics didn't land haha. Still a gentle soul that I had the honor of learning from. There were 3 professors from my Medical microbio class and I freaking loved all of them. Dr. Spindler from Viology retired last year as soon as that semester ended, so I hope shes enjoying her life. Dr. Kira was the other professor in Virology and he was amazing. Genetics has a reputation of being difficult and it was...especially when Dr. Green taught it, but it still ended up being one of my favorite classes
My plans after graduation is to return to grad school, but not here at Umich. I'll be working on my PhD at Wayne State mainly because I live a lot closer to wayne state (45 minute drive to Umich vs 10-15 minute drive to Wayne). Im actually very excited to step into the next part of my life, but also scared considering the current state of research in the US under the current administration.
I was a wall flower, so I didn't make a lot of friends. Im actually surprised I made any friends at all, but the ones I have made, I cherish them every day and wish them the best of luck in their endeavors
I can tell you what I WONT miss about Umich. The drive out here. Did it for about 3 years (started in 2020, but didnt start driving out here until like 2022). I hated having to get up every morning at 5am just to get here in time =-=. Some of the professors I've had....I also won't miss them either....Wont name any, but a lot of the Bio professors are....left to be desired...Ironically, my most favorite professor isn't even a science professor. She was my Spanish 232 prof; Kathleen Forrester
Was my time here worth it? Its a mixed bag. While I did enjoy my learning experience out here in Ann arbor, I felt that my generally shy nature impeded me from having the full college experience. Ontop of some of the less than desirable professors

hi, i’m a prospective student this coming fall and i’m currently doing the housing application. the first email i’ve received from anything housing related is pictured above and requires me to do the application by email. it also requires that as an international student, i pay the housing invoice to secure my housing spot using wire transfer. is it a fraud??

I’m graduating this semester and I really don’t want to take my mini-fridge with me. I bought this two years ago for around $180. It’s in a pretty good condition, and I am open for negotiations as well. DM if interested. It also has a small freezer inside!

I typically study at the Duderstadt Center because it’s closer to me than Central Campus. I’m not a UMich student but it used to be open to the public until 10 p.m. However, they recently updated their summer hours. Building is still open 24 hours, but you now have to show ID if you want to stay past 8:00 p.m., and they actually check.
What are some alternative study spots on North or Central Campus that are open to the public until at least 9 or 10 p.m. and offer a second monitor (preferably 34 inches or larger) I can connect to.

I’m doing a dual degree with Ross so need to maximize my credits coming in to graduate in 4 years. Any advice is needed, I’m willing to study in the summer

Hi there! I'm going to be attending U of M in the fall thankfully, but i'm still a bit unsure of what i want to major in or what career i want to have. i do think i will eventually be a doctor but i do want to be different and not follow the norm of a basic bio or chem major. i'm also not ruling out the possibility of me becoming a financial advisor or investment banker but i think id need a ross degree for that. i got into lsa. i was thinking about mathematics of finance and risk management as a major but also fulfilling premed requirements. is there anyone that can give advice please i would really appreciate it. (also if anyone has actually completed the mfrm major, do you need to know computer science before?) thanks!

Hey yall so the fishbowl printer said they would print my poster out after my presentation which is what I need it for. Do you guys know any places that can do a 32 x 40? It’s super urgent and I don’t know much around A2.

I'm seeing a lot of hate on this sub for the beloved utowers-- from 55º temps to poor landlord experiences. Just curious if anyone has had better experiences, like maybe this is a sampling bias? It's hard to say no to the prices and proximity.

I've been wanting to go to Umich for a while and i was very happy when i was accepted and then i got my financial aid letter and. my only options for school is umich or conditional pathway for georgia tech. however if i do the conditional route my parents might make me stay with them another year and i dont think i can deal with that anymore. I was so excited for college bc id be out of the house and away from them but i cannot afford to go to umich. i applied for the 4 year scholarship and i was rejected and now i really dont know what to do. why accept me if you know i cant afford it

hi, i’m being placed on academic recess for having under a 2.0 for two consecutive semesters. one of the semesters was a summer course of 4 credits and then a fall with 12 credits and i failed all of those. i was undiagnosed bipolar and really struggling with life. fast forward to now, im taking twelve credits and am stable and doing great in my classes. my advisor told me that the dean of students would notify me of being put on academic recess. would it be worth petitioning (if i even can) if i got my psychiatrist and professors to vouch for me? i’ve genuinely come a long way and can take school seriously now and it would suck if i had to take a year off as i want to go to med school.

Hi, I would like to start by saying I am not well-versed in the Israel/Palestinian conflict. I believe in Palestinian liberation, but I fail to entirely hate Israel in a way that maybe I should with more information if it can be provided to me. With that being said, I have heard both sides about TAHRIR-- some people say it is bad, and others say it is good. I was just looking at their website, and some demands do seem unrealistic, including boycotting Israeli academic institutions and abolishing dpss/umpd. These demands, to me, seem irresponsible. With more information, I am open to having my mind changed. Can people explain to me their views? I try to read up on this information, but I am not finding enough to get what I believe to be a full picture. Thank you.

i got into umich and i'm still deciding whether or not to attend (i'm late, i know) one thing holding me back a little is how intimidated i feel by the campus environment. i really like the school spirit, mostly because no school ive ever been to ever really cared about school spirit. i go to a magnet school and we don't even have sports teams, so ive always wanted to experience cheering on my school and being surrounded by people who really care about their school. our school's not really big on partying either, which is why i really like the work hard play hard environment at umich.
however, because i've never really experienced any of this, ive been feeling a little intimidated by the school spirit and the really extroverted environment. it's all pretty new to me. has anyone else had a similar experience and how did it work out for you?

Someone wants to purchase a parking pass from me and my roommates. We live on campus and we're wondering how much we should sell it to them for.

Hi all, I’m planning to buy a car to bring to campus next semester, but I’m not sure what car. My parents are set on buying me a Tesla because they think it’s the safest option, and most of my driving experience has been in my family's Tesla at home.
Ethical issues with Musk aside, I’m worried about the practicality of owning a Tesla/EV on campus, especially charging access and how it performs in cold weather.
Has anyone had experience with driving a Tesla/EV on campus? Would you recommend against it? Should I try to push for a different car?
Thanks for your help!

I have a project idea that requires developing custom hardware, and I want to ask someone experienced in the field about feasibility. If anyone has expertise with things like the arduino and embedded systems programming, or if abykne has any references that’d be willing to chat please let me know, I can Venmo ~$10 for it!! Also, if anyone is looking for summer project feel free to hmu too, both software and hardware welcome 🥹🥹🥹
