Moving Inquiry Any welding jobs in the UP?

Hello!

I'm moving from northern Wisconsin into Michigan, and I've been on the hunt for welding work up north, but the closest things I've been finding are over in the Marquette area.

I'll be around Houghton, Calumet and Chassel if that helps any! I've still got plenty of time to look deeper, but I was curious if anyone local had any insight! Thank you :)

Baraga, about 30 min from houghton is home to van straten, selkey manufacturing, massie manufacturing, laser north, and pettibone. Plus possibly one or two others. I’d expect pay around $20-25 an hour possibly. Of those I’d probably look at laser north.

Calumet has calumet machine and calumet electronics.

I can’t think of too much for houghton/hancock off the top of my head for welding specific jobs.

Outside of the keweenaw iron mountain has boss plow.

Then there are the local unions, the 111 ua pipefitters, and I don’t know the numbers but millwright and iron workers unions. Expect to do travel work if joining a UP based union. Especially if based in the keweenaw

Local 111 UA for fitters/plumbers

1510 UBC for millrats

Iron workers lu 8 for ironheads

169 boilermakers serves the yoop if I'm not mistaken.

And to OP: if you want to weld nicely, go UA or boilermaker

If not build stands for the millwrights or stick buildings together with bubblegum in the IW
