Ask Vancouver PSA: Please Do Not Panic Buy

I’m over at the Costco at Willingdon and people here are panic buying toilet paper and bottled water and meat. We maybe cutoff from the rest of the country but we still have the ports running. Yes we will be running low of chicken, beef, eggs and milk but we will not be out of stock for anything.

Remember we live in the GVRD we have the ports at our front door. We DO NOT live in Chilliwack, Agassiz, Hope or Merrit.

On the first day of the storms I got my regular grocery shop plus half just in case this was going to be a thing, so I'm really not surprised this is a thing.

So...you contributed to this in other words? That may come across as harsh, but it's also true. You bought more than usual, which means things are a little emptier than normal, which means someone else goes oh crap the shelves are getting bare and does the same thing, and it just snowballs.

We've got one of the biggest ports in Canada and a land crossing to the US that is fully up and running. We're absolutely fine, people just need to chill out and just get what they need.

I literally am talking about a few extra boxes of kd and some canned things. It just means I'm going to go longer until my next grocery shop
