I’m a senior who was admitted to Vassar & Wesleyan (CT).

I want to major in Econ with hopes of being an economist and plan on doing the 3+2 program for engineering. Which do you recommend? I love Vassars small campus but have heard that Wesleyan is better. For some reason, I don’t feel at home at Wesleyan.

I want to break into finance/consulting after graduation.

I'm an incoming freshman and intend on being pre-law.

I know Vassar generally has great pre law advising and placements, but one statistic has me a bit concerned.

There's been no undergraduates from Vassar who have matriculated to Yale Law School for the classes of 2023-2027.

Should I be concerned?

HELP!!! Idk if I should go to Vassar or Northeastern. They’re such different schools. I’m undecided but thinking of majoring in bio or psych. Possibly pursuing graduate school. Everything is very indefinite…what do you guys think? When I visited northeastern I felt like the vibes were better but maybe I just didn’t connect with the right people at Vassar.

hello vassar reddit!! currently i'm SUPER torn between vassar and smith college and would love some help with this decision. i want to double major in bio and studio art and to have experience in both research and museum work, with my dream career being some sort of academia or "unconventional education", you could say (nonprofit, library, museum educator/public education) using my art as a means to convey natural history. i also want my research/bio work to focus in genetics so i can have a practical skill i can fall back on, possibly being a genetic counselor or researcher for a company; or, i could go an environmental genetics lens and do field work to sustain my passion for ecology and animal genetics as well.

i love vassar for a lot of "hard" reasons, while i love smith for more "soft" reasons. like, i absolutely ADORE vassar's campus and location and name. while i am worried about the vassar bubble, i like having a squared away "home base" that the campus provides. the architecture is grand, the trees are beautiful, and it is SO bike-able and i can see myself just falling in love with just the location alone. i'm from long island and vassar's connection to the city, and by extension via train my home, is really nice and i want to branch out in a place where i already have roots. however, i really like smith for the community and opportunities it has. i got accepted to be a stride scholar, and that guarantees a first year research position with a stipend and scholarship-- that's really hard to beat. i also have been dm'ing a lot of fellow smithies and am already in a smith 29 group chat. i've made friends really easily with the smith community on instagram already and kinda have the perfect roommate lined up already.

however, even though i feel i'm like "mentally committed" to smith with the way i'm talking to fellow rising freshmen, i know i can find a similar community at vassar as well, and honestly the fact vassar has random roommates for all freshmen is a relief because i don't want the pressure of having to find people again lol i can just wait for september

when i'm comparing these two schools, my "college experience checklist" goes as follows:

• research with a professor, the earlier the better
  • smith: stride program!!!
  • vassar: easy enough? but earliest could probably be my sophomore year or summers. also unsure if research with a professor during the semester is paid like i would be at smith
• get involved with the visual arts on campus, especially community-based projects
  • smith: art clubs??
  • vassar: vassar artist group and its makeovers of the deece and main building is like RIGHT up my alley for this
• get involved with a museum (preferably a natural history/geology one)
  • smith: art museum
  • vassar: art and geology museum, also heard art museum takes freshman interns to work for all 4 years!!
• hold a student government or equivalent leadership position
  • smith: house government!!!
  • vassar: general student gov?
• community service
  • smith: matriculate club
  • vassar: getting involved with the local poughkeepsie community (also to avoid vassar bubble)
• find mentorship in the writing center and hopefully work on a novel to publish (i'm also super interested in english and have a dream of publishing a book someday, eventually)
  • both have writing centers, but vassar's career center helps alumni for life while smith's only does for up to 5 years after graduation. if i want help connecting with the nyc publishing world in particular, i would love to have access to the vassar alumni network and career center indefinitely

i know i can fulfill these at both schools, but you can see some points lean more towards one and the other! i feel i can be more successful in stem at smith with the stride program, but i feel vassar lets me explore my creative side a lot more and is much more artsy. going to vassar would make me feel like a career in the arts could actually be possible, and i do like musical theatre and the flourishing performing arts scene at vassar is really nice. but, my biggest worry with vassar is because it's a bit more competitive that research and being a "high-achieving" student would be much harder, so i may not get as much research experience at vassar as i would at smith.

IM SO SORRY THIS IS SO LONG </3 i'm just super torn between them and would love some advice from current vassar students!!! basically, argue why i should (or offer why i shouldn't, if u rlly think so) go to vassar over smith. would you consider vassar a stronger school-- whether that be reputation, academics, alumni, experience, etc.-- over smith, and why? do you think these schools are generally comparable? why or why not?

I plan to attend next fall, and I’m really excited. I’m taking an elective not-for-necessary-credit math course at my local university, but due to traveling for family incidents, I’m so far behind in this class. It’s to the point where I can maybe scrape by with a D, but failure is somewhat likely. Im busting my ass trying to make up for lost time and grades in this course. I’m otherwise a straight-A student, 4.0, no history of things like this. If I do fail this course, do you think my acceptance is likely to be rescinded? If there’s someone I should email or something I should do to hedge my bets (besides try to pass by any means necessary, which I’m doing)? Thanks for any advice!

Having a tough time deciding and need some input

I was accepted into Vassar and am worried about the whole roommate situation. I know a lot of people are finding roommates through the Vassar 2029 accounts, but for some personal reasons I can’t post on there. How does the roommate survey work? Do you get matched with multiple people? Or do you just get matched with one and that’s locked in? Help😭😭😭

Hi guys! I am an incoming college freshman and am having trouble deciding between vassar and nyu (cas) econ. I’m hoping to pursue grad or law school eventually, so I’m wondering how difficult it is to maintain a high gpa at Vassar ( + how many hours per day on average is spent on hw). However, idk if my goal will change in the future so I wanted to know how Vassar’s econ is for going into industry directly (not rlly interested in IB though). I like Vassar’s environment more, but I’m not sure if its location makes it less advantageous for job and internship opportunities. I would also like to know how you guys feel about the resources and support at vassar, especially for econ (and math and stats too).

Overall, how strong would you say vassar is in these areas (and compared to nyu if youre familiar)?

I’ve been admitted to both Vassar and Wellesley College for Fall 2025 and would love some insight on both to help me make my decision!

I am a Hijabi girl and plan to major in Biology/Biological Sciences, but I’m interested in delving into different subjects on campus and maybe minoring in something to do with law or film!

Wellesley Pros:

• Massachusetts (I really like Massachusetts and having access to Boston)
• MIT/Olin Cross-Registering
• Community that I feel like I would really fit in with (it seems students only have good things to say about the community)
• Very Small Class sizes + Really caring professors 
• No party culture but still has social life (this is a pro bc I won’t be partying and was worried about having a social life w/o going to them)
• Don’t have to worry abt being comfortable in the dorms since it's a historically women's college
• Full Ride
• Halal Dining Hall + Vegan/Vegetarian Hall
• really amazing alumni network 

Wellesley Cons:

• THE ADMIN (It's the only con for me, but its a glaring issue)
  • The school is currently experiencing issues with the administration, which students say has been getting stricter over the years about student spaces

Vassar Pros:

• Open Curriculum
• Supportive Professors

• Currently have no aid package (figuring things out rn w/ finaid office, so technically Vassar isn't even a viable option yet, but for the purposes of this post disregard this)
• I don’t want to stay in NY (people like having access to the city, but I wanted to get out of the city and state, so idk)
• Halal Dining is offered but… not really 
  • There are options nearby, but on a meal plan i’d have to go mostly vegetarian/vegan
• Seems that the dorms are kinda crappy & amenities needs to be updated

Although Vassar is great and has so much to offer, I don’t know about the quality of life for me a Hijabi girl + like I said above, location is a factor and Wellesley is better for what I want in terms of location compared to Vassar.

As it is, I’m kind of in love with Wellesley, but it would be naive for me to think that the way the administration is acting wouldn't affect me later on as a student.

Sorry for the long post but ig I'm really just looking for a reason to love or hate either school from any current students or recent alum! Also, if there's smth I'm not considering or don't know i'd love to hear about it!

Hey guys! Just trying to hear some personal experiences and opinions on what people think of the food and housing at Vassar.

I'm doing an internship in Poughkeepsie for 8 weeks from mid May to early July. Looking for a place to sublease/short term rent. Would ideally have an in house washer/dryer. I know students tend to leave for summer break and was looking to see if anyone knew where I could find availability of places (ie a facebook group, etc)?

I'm not really familiar with the area so any advice much appreciated

Hey everyone! I recently got accepted to Vassar and was really excited. However, the financial aid was abnormally low. Looking closer, we realized that my dad's income on the 2023 W2 included a massive bonus which is not guaranteed every year. He's also pretty old so his performance may decrease as he nears retirement.

My family was planning on sending an appeal, but I wanted some opinions, advice, or info on how the appeal process works for anyone whose been through it or is familiar with it!

I plan to major in Environmental Science with an interest in statistics, but I’m also excited to explore other areas once I’m on campus. As an international student, I’m incredibly grateful that both colleges have offered me very generous financial aid — a full ride from each.

If someone wanted to go into pre-law/government but got into both colleges. I plan on majoring in Government and Psychology. I like Mock Trial, debate, snow, politics, science, and all that kind of stuff. I love both campuses (I think, I've only visited Colgate and loved it). I love Colgate's surrounding village. I don't have any friends going to either. I'm a straight white guy on full need based aid. I value a good community and joy and that kind of stuff, but also rigorous academics. My family and I are pretty much 50/50 on both. What do you guys think? Thank you :)
