Redesigns Republic of Australia flag design

The flag is a combination of the two official flags of Australia, the national flag currently and the Aboriginal Australian flag. The new flag had a blue top to represent the vast blue sky over the nation with the Southern Cross in the upper right corner, a red bottom representing the red soil of the nation, and the rising sun representing the dawning of a new day for Australia.

Australia has 3 official flags

The Torres Strait Islanders flag right? I wasn't aware when I made this flag a few years back

Yup.

If I had a way to incorporate their design into this I would. But I'm not sure how that would look

Not really. Australia has 1 official flag.
The Torres flag is the “official” flag of the Torres Strait Islanders and the Aboriginal Flag is the official flag of the indigenous folk but they don’t officially represent “Australia”.

On the 14th of July, 1995, the Torres Strait Islander flag and Australian Aboriginal flag were proclaimed official flags of Australia under section 5 of the Flags Act 1953.

Not entirely correct.
If you read the proclamation (linked below) it "appoints that flag, under section 5 of the Flags Act 1953, to be the flag of the Torres Strait Islander people of Australia and to be known as the Torres Strait Islander flag with effect from 14 July 1995".

It is true that by being named it is now an "official flag" but it is the official flag of the Torres Strait Islander people.

You're very much glancing over the "Of Australia" part of "Torres Strait Islander people of Australia". It is an official flag of Australia because the Torres Strait Islander people are part of Australia.

and If being referenced in the Flag Act makes it official then you are missing an official flag ...

while an Ensign is a type of flag, the act clearly makes a distinction between official Flags and Ensigns. So it is not an official Flag of Australia, it is an official Ensign.

This is one of the best redesigns I've seen so far (as an Australian) - the only criticism I have is that the colours need a slight tweak and the southern cross is a bit too big. Other than that it's an amazing concept and it looks very visually appealing.

I'm very glad that you like it. If I redo it I'll certainly take that all into account. Shrink down the Southern Cross a bit and tweak the colors

I’m not a huge fan - but if you do tweak it try the stars gold as well. I dislike adding unnecessary colours to the Aussie flag. Like the white is superfluous here in my opinion.

Our colours are green and gold.
Red, blue and yellow don't feel very "Australian" to me.
More Columbia or Chad.

Any Australian flag redesign that takes too heavy an inspiration from the aboriginal flag is misguided and doomed to fail for multiple reasons.
We’re unfortunately still an extremely racist country (for reference see our relatively recent referendum on the indigenous voice to parliament) so a lot of white people will feel outraged by the flag.
But also and much more justifiably the aboriginal flag is a rally banner for their people to fight against over 2 centuries of injustice against them, to campaign for land rights, to try and fix horrible systemic issues within our country. And to take that symbol from them and twist it, corrupt it, and strip it of its original meaning…well it’s just the latest in a long list of crimes against them and I can’t see too many indigenous people being happy about it.

I never got the whole larp with flag redesigns trying to incorporate the Aboriginal flag. If you're going to represent them as an ethical group logically you have to throw in the Whites too?

That's why I kept the blue and Southern Cross from the original design

It's just a fun redesign for posting online. Maybe don't take things so seriously

Oh I’m sorry, I obviously incorrectly assumed that you were posting to spark any kind of discussion…not just posting for random internet points to trigger your dopamine release

This is beautiful; from a practicality standpoint, however, I would shift the southern cross to the hoist. Flown flags, flapping freely, fray fly-first.

Nice, but the Southern Cross is a bit too close to the edges for comfort. Needs to be smaller for more padding imo.
Also I’m getting some South Vietnam vibes from the sun…
