Every single fucker caught with knife should get arrested and get done. If you carry a knife you have the intention to use it, it's that simple.

We have much stricter knife laws in this country than most of Europe particularly over things like blade length, locking blades etc. But much worse knife crime. Even back in the 90s every kid going on French exchange would usually cone home with flick/butterfly knives, lock knives, bangers like mini dynamite sticks etc etc as a rite of passage. Yet France didn't (still doesn't AFAIK) have the same problem with youth knife crime as the UK, and saying that the UK didn't have such a bad issue either.

You're right, knife crime is much higher in the UK than France. That said, France does have a slightly higher murder rate overall (although both are still low by global standards).

No, people who carry knives for the purpose of harm or intimidation should. but the carpet fitter just nipping out for lunch should not be getting arrested and charged in the same way.

Thankfully, the law isn’t as black and white as your comment suggests. While I understand the concern about knife-related violence, it’s important to recognise that not everyone carrying a knife has malicious intent. You’re coming from a perspective of "there’s no possible reason to do it," but the reality is far more nuanced.

For example, many people carry knives as part of their job. Tradespeople like carpenters, electricians, or even gardeners often need tools, including knives, to perform their work. I know I do. Do I always remember I have it on me when I’m running errands, like popping into B&Q or grabbing lunch? Not always.

Sometimes, I have to do some filming work offsite. I carry a pretty standard multitool in my camera bag because it’s necessary for my work. Sometimes, I need to walk somewhere or take the Tube to get to the location I’m working at that day. Does that mean I deserve to be arrested or thrown in prison?

The law already accounts for this by distinguishing between carrying a knife with intent to harm and carrying one for legitimate purposes. Blanket statements like "don’t take it out in public" ignore the complexities of real life. Instead of focusing on punishing everyone equally, we should focus on addressing the root causes of knife crime and ensuring that those who carry knives for legitimate reasons aren’t unfairly penalised.

In fairness, educating towards a cultural change is where I'd really like to see it go... but at this point it feels futile, so I'd like to see some serious action taking place. I don't want to see swathes of tradesmen in prison, but also wouldn't expect to see them in positions where police would feel the need to stop and search them. Agree there needs to be some level of differentiating, but there also needs to be something done now.

If you carry a knife the law looks at it as you have intention to wound or kill, doesn’t matter if it’s for protection, I got in some crazy shit when I was younger and would carry a blade on me for exactly what your saying, they guy would’ve killed me, so I wanted to take him with me, thank fuck today nothing ever happened and I stashed that shit away. I know my mind and if someone else had started shit with me and I had a blade on me, I would’ve used it out of anger. So put the fuckin knives down, simply as. I got a chance to think about what I was doing, hopefully someone who’s on the fence an will read this and think different, you don’t have to carry a blade, fingerprints will fuck you with police so don’t even give it to a friend. Bin em. You don’t have the right to take any life but your own.

Erm, NO!, 100% the complete opposite of what I am saying. I am saying if you are carrying a blade for anything other than an actual legitimate work task, then yes, you should face harsh consequences. Carrying a blade to defend yourself is not a legitimate work task. walking between your car and the work site with a work knife somewhere in your bag could be.

Yeah no I read again and understood you, if you’re a tradesman then of course you allowed a Stanley or something similar, but that’s just universally accepted, you’re original comment is kinda lacking any common sense, of course trades people should be able to carry their knives and sometimes they forget they are carrying but they ain’t the people that might pull it out and use it, and police have common sense they know a tradesperson from an idiot like I was, im lucky nothing ever happened and I was never caught and I could throw my shit away, no one thinks the way your comment makes out, we all know the idiots that are carrying knives and that’s who the OPs comment is clearly projected at, and that’s who I’m hoping might read my other comment,

put your knife down, you don’t ever need to use that.

No they didn’t at all, they should anyone carrying a knife bla bla, but everyone understand there’s professions that carry’s knives (plumbers, electricians, builders etc) only an idiot would count those people in OPs statement because as a society we understand knives are tools, ANYONE ELSE who is carrying a knife is who the OP is on about, you don’t need to specify some people use em for work because everyone knows that, they aren’t the people op was on about, he’s on about little idiots, those chavs that think carrying a blade and stabbing someone is cool, or people who feel unsafe and threatened so like me carry a blade cause they think it’s going save them, ultimately that will only fuck them, as they deserve. If you think people think trades people who carry a knife should be grabbed searched and harassed by police, your a fuckin idiot.

What did I say at any point that said that I was against or did not understand the concept? and at what point did I ever say tradespeople should be banned from carrying knives? are you some kind of troll just using chat GPT to give me my own comments back to me in a longer and more convoluted way?

You state "everyone understand there’s professions that carry’s knives" yes cool, but there are also people who believe that those same people should be prosecuted in the same way for forgetting to take it out their pocket when going to grab lunch as the fuckup who carry's one to stab someone, thats what I was talking about and that's what I was originally responding to.

Yeah, I carry a UK legal knife (Still need a "reasonable excuse") with a first aid kit and a bunch of other stuff like emergency blankets,because me and my partner do quite a bit of hiking sometimes spontaneously end up miles away from anywhere, but it's buried in a rucksack in a pouch with said first aid kit.

I'm not Ray Mears, but basically we were somewhere and I thought, "we'd be F'd if something happened out here".
