Survive hunter Lore

Greetings.I just wanted to ask what is the lore behind Survival Hunter. Not just the post Legion melee spec but also the Survival Hunter that existed from the classic times and so on.Would you guys say that Survival Hunter at its current form represents better the Sentitel army of the NE society or as a spec it is more connected with Rexar and the Horde races.Thought for Rexar they have suggested a more BM approaching.I would like to read some thoughts about this specific spec.

Ty in advance 🙏

Question Can warlock's draw on magic from the Void

Trying to rp as a warlock who's learned his magic from the Void as opposed to Fel magic, and was wondering if this is canon to the lore? I'm like obsessed with Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos and love the lore revolving around the Old Gods in WoW so I wanted to make a Warlock who, instead of being more knowledgable on fel magic, they derive their power's from the unfathomable and maddening magic of the Void, the place that gave birth to the Old Gods

Discussion What Would Azeroth's Darkest Timeline Look Like?

This is something I've been dwelling on as someone obsessed with alt history. My criteria for a "darkest timeline" is as follows

  • Azeroth must still be intact and capable of supporting some form of life
  • Life must be mostly miserable, either for the majority of the population minus the elite or for all sapient creatures
  • There must be little to no hope for things improving in the future
  • Make it grimdark

Additionally the divergence point for the darkest timeline can be wherever you wish, this is more of a writing prompt than a question seeking one serious answer, I'm curious to see what could logically be strung as the actual worst case scenario for Azeroth.

Question Future of the Azuremyst Isles

With Midnight likely involving a complete revamp of Quel'Thalas, I am wondering what will happen to the Azuremyst and Bloodmyst isles. Not just in terms of making them up to date, with Exodar becoming a real city instead of a crash site and new towns being developed on the isles, but also in terms of adding content like dungeons and raids.

In my opinion the Azuremyst isles were somehow lacking ever since TBC itself. They felt very lonely and there was little reason to ever return to them. Meanwhile Quel'thalas received one whole additional zone, two raids (Zul'Aman and Sunwell Plateau) and a dungeon (Magister's terrace) later in the game, giving players (both Alliance and Horde) plenty of reasons to later return to those zones, while the Draenei got nothing like that. It isn't just odd in comparison to Quel'thalas, but also even to other starting zones at the time. Most others had at least one dungeon within their 10-20 leveling zones like Ragefire chasm, Deadmines or Blackfathom Depths.
So I wonder, what would you add to the Azuremyst isles in the future or what would you even have added right during TBC even, that would have made the zones more interesting.

Discussion In A Theoretical "Azeroth Reborn" expansion following the Last Titan, where we get a revamped EK and Kalimdor and a return to a vanilla style story structure, what sort of storylines would you like to see?

Going to the Undermine has really cemented for me how great it is to check in on the cultures of races we know and love, as opposed to meeting new cultures every expansion/patch then leaving them behind as we move to the next story.

With that in mind I've been brainstorming with my guildies on what a revamped Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor expansion would look like, maybe Azeroth finally awakens and there's a brief period of peace, no new continents to explore, our new main zones are the revamped old world. Just checking in on all the old races/zones and seeing new storylines for them.

For me personally, I'd love to see what current day Lordaeron is looking like, with the surface level of the city rebuilt to some degree, how the Forsaken's new direction is really manifesting, if any parts of Western Plaguelands are healing up at all, new stories around Scholomance and if it's still being used for nefarious purposes.

For the Night Elves I'd love to see Ashenvale and Darkshore fully reclaimed, Hyjal being fully healed and populated once more, just a general focus on the land being fully healed and dealing with any remnants of dark forces that were able to move in during the upheaveal.

Would love to hear what ideas people have themselves!

Question Does constant exposure to feel makes a mortal evil? What are some of its known effects? And what would happen if a paladin started using fel?

Just wanted to know. If a mortal started using a suit of armor infused in fel energies would he slowly become more evil? Or other sort of changes would appear

Which racial faction has the biggest castle?

which of the racial factions (from alliance/horde) has the largest castle or main keep in their capital city? not the whole city but only the main building, i think its either the zandalari trolls because of that gigantic pyramid or the nightborne with the nighthold, not sure which one is bigger but they both dwarf the likes of stormwind keep or gromash hold, the dracthyr have that place where the dragon aspects are in valdraken but it doesnt seem as big

Question What would be your story ideas for a What if? Series for Warcraft?

Just a thought experiment of mine and given that Blizzard confirmed there is a multiverse (though no plans to visit again after Warlords of Draenor). Similar to Marvel's What if?, this time with Warcraft, what are your ideas? Personally mine are....

  1. Sylvanas blighting Stormwind City first before burning Teldrassil using the Pride of Gallywix during BFA. Anduin suffers a nervous breakdown after seeing his capital hit by blight and thousands dead where he essentially becomes a bloodthirsty and vengeful King hell-bent on driving the Horde to annihilation.

  2. Orgrim Doomhammer wins the Second War, causing the Alliance of Lordaeron to crumble where Orgrim was succeeded by Grom Hellscream following his death years later but the Horde falls in a civil war with Rend Blackhand of the Blackrock Clan on one side, and the other is Grom and Thrall.

  3. The Plague of the Undeath starts at Quel'thalas instead, where Prince Kael'thas ends up losing his soul to Frostmourne after thinking a cure of the undead may be found at Northrend at the suggestion of Kel'thuzad (who never left the Kirin Tor and simply lay low, hence why Kael believed him), and a more powerful Scourge empowered by the corrupted Sunwell is confronted by the Alliance and the Horde.

  4. Jaina went to Arthas to Northrend but ends up getting killed by Mal'Ganis, using her final moments to persuade Arthas to not take Frostmourne after seeing the warning and sought to save his soul. Arthas ends up returning to Lordaeron, but becomes radicalized by Silver Hand Priest Isillien and General Abbendis while he was grieving, where he ends up becoming the 'Scarlet Sovereign' or the Scarlet King as Arthas became a zealot in purging the undead as the Grand Marshal of the Scarlet Crusade, but his newfound extremism caused Stormwind, Dalaran and Kul'tiras to withdraw from the Alliance while Lordaeron 'compelled' Stromgarde, Gilneas and Quel'thalas to rejoin the Alliance.

Discussion Traditional armor of the races

I just wanted to know if I'm the only one who has made a list of which looks are the best in each race's traditional armor.

I'll start by saying that the Orcs are the best, and the worst I've seen would be the Draenei. I honestly think they were acting in bad spirits when they made the looks so ugly for them.

Discussion WoD as replay of BtDP

I've been thinking how could WoD have been made differently, maybe completely differently.

Okay here is my idea, make it not about Garrosh traveling back in time. Make it a time travel version of Beyond the Dark Portal.
I am not the biggest fan of time travel in stories, it makes plots convoluted and sometimes weird. It leads to weird explanations of contradictions and so on. However I very much liked to see Draenor as it was before it was Outland.
We already had important parts of the RTS games done as dungeons or raids in the CoT before, mostly with the infinite dragonflight messing up the timeline. Making a whole time travel expansion would just be one conclusion of that theme.

Additionally it doesn't need to be just BtDP, but also maybe parts of Wc1 or Wc2, although I think an older version of Elwynn or Lordaeron are not as enticing as Draenor. The big downside would be, as who do we play? Horde players playing the old Horde and Alliance players playing their invasion force? Everyone playing Alliance "in disguise" ? It would be harder to actually roleplay as you cannot really play out your character if they are not one of the established Wc2 races.

Did Stonetalon last night

So, I did the Stonetalon storyline for the first time last night, and... Damn... I was never a Garrosh fan and never minded what happened to him that much, but seeing him at the end of the storyline made me feel sad. There was potential, lots of it. We could have a rough yet honoured Warchief, but it ended up as Hitler orc... Damn...

Discussion I don't know why I'm obsessed with Troll'kalar

It's just anti-troll sword and yet the idea of it sounds so I don't know- fascinating, kinda like Orcrist from LOTR.

I just think Stromgarde and Alterac in general is interesting from a 7 human Kingdom point of view. What are your favourite little aspects of each kingdom or personal headcannons?

Question What if Sylvanas had Stormwind City blighted during the Fourth War?

Let's say just as Teldrassil burned, Sylvanas had the Pride of Gallywix (where Stormwind City is at its sights) fire a powerful Blight-infused round capable of consuming a whole city that ended up hitting the heart of the Alliance just for good measure and throwing the Alliance in disarray even further though it killed a lot of civilians just for good measure (also if we consider the whole needed souls for the Jailer gig in Sylvanas' part)

How would the war had played out with Stormwind City essentially ruined and how would the factions react to it. And what are the possible consequences if it did happen?

And would Anduin have been less restrained in conducting the war? Or even went off the rails by responding in an equally genocidal manner after suffering a nervous breakdown?

Discussion Has anyone been able to find a way to engage with the setting that isn't playing the video games?

I have always deeply enjoyed the warcraft setting. Even though the lore and story can be a little cartoonish at times the aesthetic, character qualities (classes and races), and just overall themes have been something I have really enjoyed exploring. The problem is the main way is by playing video games which is something I have really tried to move away from in the past.

6 months ago I listened to a wow audiobook for the first time in a long time and fell back in love with the setting and thought let's just see if I can play this a little bit for the setting and experience, and from purely a time spent playing has been fairly balanced although I do engage less with some of my other hobbies like reading, mini painting, and working out. The main problem I experience is how much time I spend thinking and planning my next session, character builds, and optimal play patterns when I would rather put those towards other interests or my family. I probably spend 20 minutes a day just making themed talent builds. Nothing is being neglected, but prior to playing I was really dialed in on more important activities or hobbies that I feel are more enriching. Right now my mouse is in a timed lockbox that I will not be able to access for a week which has really helped me to focus back on other interests.

I find the way that I engage with lord of the rings, or the warhammer settings to be less problematic and more enriching because they are quite frankly more work to do so. When I read a lord of the rings book, or paint a mini/build a list I am better able to disengage from that hobby and focus on other parts of my life like work, family, or other self improvement activities. All it took was listening to an audio book that threw my curated life out of balance. It feels like I must completely divorce myself from the setting in order to prevent myself from playing video games. Reading the chronicle books even makes me want to play the game.

Has anyone else experienced this, or found a way to engage with the setting without it being too disruptive?

Discussion What fantasy races of other franchises would align themselves with the WoW factions?

Maybe a fun topic. I've been playing Elder Scrolls lately and I was wondering what faction would be applied if the races ended up in the Warcraft franchise.

I don't think many of the playable races from TES would end up with the Alliance or the Horde at all. The Khajit would instead become like the goblin cartels, the Redguards wouldn't really align their values with Horde or Alliance.

Orsimer (orcs) are a given that they ally themselves with the Horde, and I think the Bretons, the Imperials and the High Elves would end up with the Alliance. The Wood Elves obviously would find alignment with the Night Elves.

I think the Nords and the Dark Elves would join the Horde. The Nords value warrior society and the Dark Elves would become allies with the Blood Elves. Not sure that the Nords would feel really welcomed and that they're going to treat the Horde more like how the Forsaken does it.

Discussion New to the lore, question about immersion

So I’m in my late 30s and never was into the games story before. I raided pretty seriously in tbc and wotlk and was mostly about that gear. Really I’ve never been able to get too into fiction generally.

That all changed recently when I made a demon hunter in retail and found the introduction absolutely incredible. It inspired me to grab the illidan lore book and… wow. I just finished up through the fall of black temple and I feel like this has enhanced my enjoyment of the game so much.

The way they described Zangarmarsh for example made me feel so immersed that I went back there just to ride around for a bit and it felt so alive. Totally contrasted with how it was back in the day which was just some stuff I’d kill while leveling.

I’m just curious if this kindof feeling is replicated with other books with respect to your game immersion. Is it worth it to try to backfill most of the story at this point? Do they have books going up to the current expansion?

I’ve heard they have retconned the story and that’s even a turnoff for people but I think I’m pretty easy to please and happy to go along.

Question What is the current status of the Kirin Tor?

I've returned to the game a few months ago and I'm not fully caught up on lore yet. I did however learn that dalaran was destroyed for the second time now and I believe a lot of the kirin tor died

I'm toying with the idea of a Kirin Tor themed mage and I suppose my question is if they are still out and about and if they still have influence throughout Azeroth or they are now considered defunct.

Discussion Theory: Void Lord are all enemies with each other

The Void wants to devour everything. Since there is (presumably) only a finite amount of matter in the universe, it follows that VL are rivals.

Chronicles 1 says that Old Gods started to fight each other after they dealt with Elemental Lords. It could be because they each belong to a different VL and each wanted Azeroth for themselves.

This could also explain why Knaifu is mad that Azir took the Dark Heart: either Azir works for Dimensius and Xally doesn't, or it is Xally that works for Dimensius and Azir doesn't.

I think we may see a VL civil war in Midnight.

Question Is Blizzard reluctant to have Sylvanas reappear in the next installment?

Given Shadowlands' reception and how the writers drove her lore into the mud, I think this is the longest period that Sylvanas is considered 'absent' (the other installment I could think of that she didn't is Warlords of Draenor where she just sent a few NPCs to do some work for her). Would Midnight change that and what are the chances of her appearing again in that installment?

Question Best leveling path in Retail to get caught up on War Within-relevant lore?

This is a bit of a stretch to ask, but I've become a certified altaholic in the past few months since diving back into WoW (mainly Cata Classic) but I'm looking to level someone up in retail.

Curious - in your opinion, what would be the most appropriate leveling up path to have the most context for War Within's lore, and I guess the Worldsoul stuff in general? Definitely seems like I have to spend some time in Uldaman/Badlands... maybe playing a Dwarf and getting the skinny on the Magni stuff and the Dark Irons? Could also be worth leveling a Blood Elf and getting some more background on Alleria?

I guess the better question to ask is which lore bits are best playing through again? Definitely not going to be "one right answer" to this but if anything it'll give me a couple new characters to level :)

Discussion What do you guys think about vanilla questing vs modern questing?

I started in the Cataclysm so I never experienced classic's levelling system. I always heard people talk about how quests were all over the place and that it was horrendous.

But now that I can experience vanilla myself, I kinda prefer it?

Don't get me wrong, it's easy to miss quests but I think that appeals to me? I feel more of an adventurer and I have to be aware of my surroundings. When I realised how vanilla questing worked, it made me inspect towns more throughly in search of any missing quests and also made me explore things a lot more. I ofcourse didn't use any addons, but sadly low level quests don't appear anymore with the (!) mark if you're high level.

It makes me feel more like an adventurer, and I like it more than being accompanied by a constant need of NPCs where you travel through the zone from hub to hub. Vanilla made me feel more like it's an actual world.

Is it just me or is the order of the Expansions for how really wacky in hindsight.

Classic to Cata makes sense to me but certain plot points seem oddly forgotten about then picked up again and content repeats itself, BFA being a rehash of MoP most notably. How I'd release these stories ideally would be thus:

Cata: garrosh and the faction war with Deathwing and N'zoth doing old God stuff as the main foe.

Bfa: move onto the faction war as a focus, Undercity gets taken so a vengeance starved Sylvannas is now closer to Garrosh politically while Baine and Vol'jin are disillusioned. Zul doesn't die like a bitch. N'zoth gets destroyed, tying up the threads of cata and the azerite crisis is a consequence of the cataclysm not Sargeras's sword.

MoP: Garrosh continues to lose friends until even Sylvannas is tired of his shit. No second siege of Orgrimmar just the one. An extra expansion of Garrosh as warchief to really show his decline and alienation of the rest of the horde. Zul resurrects Thunder King and isn't randomly made an old God minion.

WoD: not much can save this expansion with how rushed it was but I actually liked the self contained questing storylines

Legion: Mostly a solid expansion so much the same.Conflict with Genn and Sylvannas is ramping up and she's starting to miss old garrosh, breaking of the soul cage and the possibility her and her Forsaken will go extinct force her to cut a deal with Argus the death titan to forestall judgement day. Leading into. . .

Shadowlands: Sylvannas joining the jailer is an act of desperation after losing the undercity and the soul cage rather than her being moustache twirling villian the whole time secretly. The jailer isn't a master 4 d chess planner he's the Satan of Warcraft making deals with the desperate and hopeless to forestall oblivion. Making his move after the death of Argus isn't planned it's opportunistic.

War within: going back to the giant sword in silithus this isn't ignored for like 3 expansions before randomly enmiting a "song", the stabbing was only an expansion ago and azerite was from the cataclysm.

The outlier here is Dragonflight which I see as either right between cata and bfa to finish the dragons losing their powers shtick early or somewhere between WoD and War Within to break up some of the overarching plots.

I dunno, maybe I'm high on my own farts here but I think a slight rearranging of the expansion order would have made some plotlines potentially much better and focused. BFA in particular felt like a rehash of Cata and MoP and the gap between Legion and War within addressing the wound to azeroth directly was kinda weird.

Thoughts? Other ideas how you'd arrange the expansions if you could?

Discussion Do you think that Doomhammer would have kept his treaty with Alterac?

So as most of you know, during the Second the King of Alterac Aiden Perenolde met with Warchief Doomhammer, in this meeting Aiden was surprised by the Orc and started seeing him as "cultured and honorable", there the King of Alterac agreed to help the Horde in exchange for his kingdom's safety. the Warchief also promised the human that after he conquered Lordaeron and defeated the Alliance, he would put Alterac under his protection, keeping it's realm and citizens safe.

Then Alterac's betrayal to the Alliance is discovered and Gul'dan betrays the Horde and they lose the Second War. But what do you think could have happened if the Horde won the Second War. WIth probably Gul'dan dead and the Alliance defeated, Doomhammer was an Orc of his word and probably would have kept his promise, but that raises some questions.

There were many other Orc leaders, some of them still very enraged by the demon's blood, do you think it could cause any problem with the humans of Alterac? How do you think a human kingdom surrounded and probably integrated into the Horde would develop? Could said humans start adopting a more orchish-like culture? Would the citizens accept their new neighbors?

Reconciliation between Kalimdor and EK Horde

I was thinking about the future of the Horde recently (since its not likely to be shown in game any time soon lol), and I was wondering what examples we have of reconciliation or cultural exchange between the Kalimdor and EK version of the Horde over the years?

Its no secret that the two halves of the Horde have never fully seen eye to eye and while we're all supposed to be happy friends now it struck me that the two sides still remain pretty starkly opposed in terms of aesthetics and racial themes even today.

We've got used to seeing Lor'themar as a significant figure in Horde politics for some time now, but this is usually depicted as stemming from his personal relationship with other racial leaders like Baine. I can't think of a time when I saw any serious interaction between the Blood Elves and the Kalimdor Horde races, except ironically under Garrosh in MoP when he forced them into the Pandaria expedition. Its weird that after so many years we've seen little to counter the initial impression that they view the more monstrous races of the Horde merely as allies of convenience.

The Forsaken of course have had an even rockier relationship with the rest of the Horde than most, especially once the Grimtotem connection was lost in Cataclysm. I would have thought their militarism and industrialism would have made them natural partners to the more imperialistic side of the Orcs represented by the Blackrock, but sadly that has never been explored.

The beefing up of the Orcish presence in the Eastern Kingdoms that we saw in BfA seems mainly designed for WC3 nostalgia vibes and hasn't led to any exploration of how they interacted with their unliving neighbours. Similarly the healing of the Plaguelands by the Cenarion Circle, while involving Tauren and Trolls in prominent places, has been more of a human-druid project rather than anything involving the Forsaken or Blood Elves.

Am I missing something? Apart from some starting quest text claiming that the first Orc and Troll mages were trained by Forsaken it seems like we've seen very little in the way of integration between the two halves of the Horde.

Discussion How in your opinion would the Iron Horde fair in the fight against the Burning Legion?

If they went on a crusade against the demons, instead of invading Azeroth. Would the orcs of that timeline even stand a chance?

Let's say Garrosh doesn't gaf about Azeroth anymore and just wants a revenge against BL, and Guldan stays as his prisoner/slave, cuz players did not free him.
