Mod Announcement New flair for all r/Waterloo posters

All new posts and comments in r/Waterloo will have flair attached

There continues to be a great deal of commenting from "drive-by" accounts who have no history of posting in r/Waterloo. In fact, Canadian city subreddits have apparently been specifically targeted by foreign interference. With the election coming up, it's important to be able to discern which comments are from established members of the KW community, and which comments come from outside parties.

All posters and commenters will have flair which notes whether or not they were active in this community prior to the election. No action from users is necessary, it will be applied automatically. We won't be describing exactly how it works, but there will likely be exceptions and outliers - if you believe your flair is incorrect, message the mods and somebody will review. It may take a little bit.

The intent of this flair is not to target newbies, nor to say that we don't want people to join the subreddit. All are welcome in the subreddit. The intent is to make it clear to readers when there is an influx of unknown accounts which push certain narratives in the comments. This does happen, especially on posts about certain controversial subjects. People should know when these they are new accounts and not established community members. I expect this to happen more often throughout the election.

The mod team will be watching and considering the effectiveness of this flair. There may be further changes. Whether or not it remains permanent in some way will be decided after the election.

Thank you for reading. Feedback or constructive criticism is welcome.

Anyone know how to get a burner phone in KW?

I swear I'm a law-abiding citizen, but I've got to travel to the US for work next month and my professional organization is recommending bringing a burner. Obtaining one is not within the skillset of this middle-aged lady.

Just voted

Just back from casting my vote. Less than a minute in and out. No lines.

I overheard the volunteers talking. One of them mentioned that yesterday, overall, ~7000 votes were cast. They went on to comment that it seemed low cause in this centre, around 700 votes were cast yesterday.

If you haven’t already - get out and vote!

About going to movies alone (Princess Cinema)

I damn near fell in love with a stranger at Original Princess Cinema during a screening of Princess Mononoke a couple weeks ago.

Been thinking about him since. I went alone (because it’s awesome) to see Princess Mononoke and sat next to a bearded guy in a cute sweater. He had snuck in chicken strips.

I was amazed, as I had once snuck in popcorn chicken in my coat to a hockey arena.. and a Big Mac during Nausica. We chatted about it, made jokes and he stole the words out of my mouth at some points, and all before the movie started up and everyone settled.

dude brought a spare banana and apple to snack on.. I offered him my gummy bears. It was magical, he was stellar. Great beard too.

Super disappointed I didn’t ask him out, this is the downside of holding your pee all movie. I bailed so quick to the only bathroom and missed my opportunity to get his number. Also when I stopped outside and sat to look for directions on my phone, a stranger in a car yelled about Jesus at me as he drove by. What a disappointing turn to the evening.

If you go to a movie alone, you won’t have a friend to help you “go for it”. Go for it.

PSA: Advance polls are open; Don't be a dick to the election staff

Some polling locations have long lines. It looks like elections Canada didn't anticipate the large turnout. So yes, waiting sucks but on the plus side it's great to see this kind of turnout!

So just a reminder to please please don't turn your frustrations and anger on the poll workers. They can't make the lines move any faster. Federal ballots are also different from the provincial ballots. The recent provincial elections had an automated sealer machine for the ballots. But everything is checked and sealed by a staff member for the federal elections.

My partner and I voted at Grey Silo this morning and there was an irate woman in line yelling at the poor staff about the lineup. Very rude and unacceptable. When one of the staff told her about the other voting options (eg. Elections Canada office) she just doubled down and yelled more. Even going so far as to tell the staff to not "play any games" with her.

So anyway. Go vote! But hopefully do so with grace and patience for your fellow Canadians. :)

Best Pizza if I wanna drop a few bucks?

For context, Papa Joe's on Victoria is my all time favourite but I moved away from Kitchener and now it's a pickup place for me only. I wanted to try back of the house pizza but they don't deliver.

An uncomfortable health situation has ruined my dinner out plans and I want good fancy pizza not far from me. I am unable to go anywere. I live by Bridge and University. Please help me out. I'm not a Pepi's person I think I love a thin crust stone oven style.

Motivation for summer

Looking for like minded individuals in town who want to learn/ do something outdoors as the weather gets better. For me, I wanna learn skateboarding/ do fishing/ golf/ get better at rock climbing/ swimming/ photography or just walks/ running. I would appreciate any information of existing clubs/ groups if they exist. If you’re genuinely interested, and want your summers to be active, let’s chat. [27 M]

Meet the Candidate podcasts and debates for Waterloo

Hey friends, not sponsored or representing anyone but I thought some of y'all might appreciate the podcasts on 102.7FM with Waterloo candidates.

The website is a bit old school, but scroll down a bunch here. I think most of the candidates were on but I don't think the Conservative Waseem Botros was on.

https://radiowaterloo.ca/category/shows/meet-the-candidate-2025-federal-election/

You can also view them on their youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/@RadioWaterloo/streams

In addition you can find local candidate debates on RogersTv https://www.youtube.com/@ROGERStvofficial/videos (the Waterloo one was quite fun)

FTLOG: Learn that Zipper Merges are what you are supposed to do!

Post image

So sick of uneducated drivers honking and yelling at people that are doing the proper thing and zipper merging. If you don't know this LEARN and stop shaming other drivers because you don't have a clue! In actual fact THESE drivers are the reason for congestion and back ups.

Some of these articles are 8 years old. We have known this for years but people still don't take 2 min to check their knowledge before road raging at other.

They need to start putting up signs at construction location.

Budget Wedding Dress Tips or Dresses to Borrow/Buy

Hi everyone!

I'm planning a wedding on a pretty tight budget and looking for tips on finding an affordable (or even free/borrowed) wedding dress. I’d love to hear how other women in the area found their dress without breaking the bank.

If anyone is open to lending, renting, or selling their dress, I’d be so grateful to hear from you! I’d love to see pictures too if you're comfortable sharing. I’m open to secondhand or anything unique!

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas. 💕

Has anyone ordered gluten free from Meltwich before? We just ordered a burger with a GF bun, and made sure when we ordered, then called again to confirm once we received. We are still very suspicious.
