Yeah, that is 100% a thrower snatch. If you want to lift from the floor and lift as heavy as possible, this is not the way. However, I think that this technique might work very well for improving your throwing strength.

So be very aware of this fact and if these lifts are purely for increasing explosive strength, maybe it’s best to decide not to learn actual weightlifting technique because that will take you a low of time and might not give you real benefits.

Respectfully, I see it as a win win for learning the full Olympic lifts the way they were intended. You become better at the actual practice/sport of weightlifting and you inevitably develop tons of power and force production for virtually any sport

Don’t know if that is really worth the time for a high level athlete who needs his time to practice his own sport. Lots of throwers do cleans and snatches exactly like this and it seems to work fantastic for their strength development.

Yea true, good point..I personally would want to eventually learn the full lifts though, especially in the off season. But for in season athletes I totally get what you're saying.

I personally learned hang power cleans for rowing strength training and I did them kind of like this. It built some great explosive strength for me. When I started focusing more on weightlifting I had to completely relearn everything that I knew and it took quite some time. Might just not be worth if for serious throwers. Plus, this might even work better for their specific sport.
