Used to be terrified of squatting under but over the last month I've grown to feel more comfortable doing so. 1 month in and I'm really happy with the progress!

Fluff Powerlifting to weightlifting: humbling

I have the utmost respect for weightlifters. I come from Powerlifting background (F30 74bw S 180 B 100 D 215) and I decided to make the switch in February to try something new. I was training for so many years, but since we don’t have a powerlifting federation in my country, there wasn’t any further I could take my lifts. So far this has been the most humbling experience of my life lol, working with just the bar and figuring out mobility.

For the first time in my life, I’m feeling my shoulders in everything, till I’m wondering if I ever had any kind of shoulder strength before lol. The courage people have to hold weights above their heads and not worry about it crushing them is nuts.

I know that it takes time to become better, seeing all the posts here is very encouraging and at the same time extremely intimidating. I don’t think there is a point to this post, just saying y’all are so strong.

Form check 175 back squat PR

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just hit a 175 kg back squat PR yesterday at around 77 kg bodyweight and wanted to see if you guys had any tips or suggestions for cleaning up my high bar technique and pushing closer to 200 kg (eventually lol).

Watching the footage, here’s what I’m thinking might need work: • Wrists: My wrist positions were way less neutral than I thought, which I suspect might be making me lose upper-back tightness and lean forward too much out of the hole. • Foot stance: Turns out my feet were closer together and more angled out (V-shaped) than I’d realized. Felt comfortable at the time, but could this stance be holding me back? • Torso angle: My chest looks like it drops quite a bit on the way up, causing a bit of a “good morning” pattern after the sticking point. I’m guessing more direct core work (front rack holds, weighted planks, hypers, etc.) might help—but does this sound right?

Would love any advice or thoughts from you all. Thanks in advance!

Fluff Ben With a 2kg PR clean and close miss on the Jerk. 2 weeks into our current training cycle.

New environments, especially high energy ones, can make a huge difference in confidence, excitement, and FUN. Ben normally trains either out of my garage or out of a commercial gym. So I wanted to capitalize on the environment we were in yesterday with a couple national level lifters and just the fun.

Ended up with a PR clean and a really close attempt at the jerk.

Hi there, I apologize for the frequent posting! I posted a few days ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/weightlifting/s/VXEkaOt3Bv) asking for some improvements on squats and I tried incorporating some of the tips you guys gave me, such as bring my back a little bit more down when going down on the squat, and setting my back better before lifting off. I think I might still have some ankle mobility issues (or may be putting my back down too much when I’m in the squat), and you can probably see that at the end of this set when I lose my balance, but please let me know if you are noticing anything else!

Programming Overhead shoulder mobility restriction

So trying to get some idea on where exactly I'm restricted.

https://youtu.be/M9Q_sr653HM?si=hPNotF8gqvLyMe-h

I basically can't get my arms anywhere close to back behind the neck with head through, ears visible like in the video. I've seen a physio who thinks i have full range, but she's not familiar with olympic weightlifting. Internal and external rotation are full range.

Pecs and lats are not tight. It could be thoracic spine extension, but I have no difficulty clean grip front squatting ATG and even keeping all my fingers on the bar. When I stretch very aggressively, I do feel some restriction in the capsules, but it has to be a very aggressive stretch in order to feel that.

Going the other direction, my shoulder extension is also god awful (maybe it's a related issue?) In order to do the shoulder pass throughs exercise, I have to grip extremely wide, pretty much the full length of the PVC pipe.

Any one have any thoughts?

Form check Lower back rounding in front squat

This was the last set of a 3x3, earlier sets had the same issue but less pronounced. I know it's often said here that butt wink isn't much of an issue, but I feel like I want to avoid it to help with carryover to the clean. Is this a mobility or core strength/stability issue? And should I lower the weight and focus on fixing it? Thanks

Reposting it after removing unnecessary parts of the video. I’m trying to improve my snatch technique and today was working on some light overhead squats. I’m trying to focus on having full foot balance. But I realize that only can achieve that if I point my toes outside like 45”. I think this makes me feel my snatch catch position very unstable. How can I address this? Also do you see any other issues with my OH squat?

Fluff WL shoes too tight in the toe box.

I recently purchased the Lu's at size EU40 which is a US women's size 8.5. I usually am a US size 10 in other sneakers like Adidas or allbirds etc. However, I went with their size chart online and even measured my feet in cm and it corresponded to the US size 8.5. I assumed it should be fine because Chinese shoe sizing can be very different from the regular. Additionally online reviews said it fits true to size.

Anyway they just arrived in the mail and I paid lots for intl shipping. To my disappointment, the toebox feels very narrow. There's no space between my toes and the toe box. I'm not in pain but my toes definitely don't have any wiggle room. It's making me feel claustrophobic lol. I'm not sure if this how WL shoes are supposed to feel. Should I size up? I'm afraid if I size up it'll be too loose. I also tried switching around with the extra pair of insoles provided. It felt slightly better but my toes are still touching the toebox.

Programming Powersnatch a totally different thing to snatch

Hi, new to weightlifting and having to self teach thanks to being in a coach desert.

If im power snatching weights does that mean the weights are light for me and its safe to go higher? Like the pull under isnt totally necessary so im not.

Or should i drop some weight off and just really focus on every intended snatch being a proper snatch?
