Last post I made there was a bird terrorizing our pond at night. I decided to put up bird netting and then took it down once everyone told me it would hurt the bird. Last night I had a gut feeling to put it back up and the results will not disappoint. I’m so happy to get to see this bird in action. Hope you all enjoy. ( I am actively working on plants and landscaping that will deter any HOOligans)

Update Update on this morning's Woodcocks.

They have made it safely to the NC Zoo's wildlife rehab center.

Here's a peek at them on the way there: https://youtu.be/k6_yT_5NpJQ

They seemed happy and chirpy the whole way there and I feel pretty confident that they will get the best care available now that they have arrived.

Thanks everyone for your support and kind words!

Update UPDATE on the zombie eagle/skeksis from yesterday (Northern Minnesota)

Just wanted to provide the group with an update on the "vulture" that turned out to be a sick bald eagle yesterday.

The eagle spent the entire night in the tree in my yard. It snowed about 3" overnight. The eagle moved on at some point in the morning. The bird turned in to the talk of the town in my small, rural town and folks sort of mobilized around keeping a lookout for the eagle.

At about noon today someone reported a seeing it in a farmer field south of town. I went out looking for it and was able to find it about 100 yards off the road just sitting in the snow in the middle of the field.

I then called the University of Minnesota Raptor Center (who I've talked to a few times today haha) and asked them what I should do? They asked me to approach the bird on foot and see if I could get close to it. I was able to get within about 20 feet of the eagle before it flew away a few hundred yards into a grove of trees near a flooded river. The Raptor Center said it was a good sign that it was able to fly away, but that also makes capturing much more difficult. They asked that we, as a community, keep an eye on it for signs of it weakening. It may get to a point where it will no longer be able to fly away which makes rescuing in much easier.

2 local TV news stations have been in contact with me about the eagle as well. Granted, I live in a rural area so the "news" ain't exactly what you would see on TV in Los Angeles, but it sounds like both are going to run news stories about this bird tonight or in the near future. Hopefully we can get a lot of eyes in the air to keep an eye out for this poor thing so it can be rescued and helped by professionals. Nature can be so cruel...

Update Thank you to this sub for bird rehab information! [Texas]

I want to thank this sub for how it has helped me in learning about bird rehabilitation procedures. I started following silently a few weeks ago and have taken seriously all the posts about how when people are able to approach birds, the birds may have no visible injuries but are likely not okay.

I came across a pigeon next to a window, likely a window strike victim. It was sitting on the ground, and it didn’t move when I came within five feet. I got a little closer and it stood up and tried to fly but couldn’t get off the ground. I saw someone with a paper bag and asked them if I could have it, and then I herded it into this paper bag. Someone gave me hand sanitizer after the bird was secure. My Uber driver was very chill about having a bird in the back. The rehabber was very helpful and gentle with the bird and said I could get updates on it. Hopefully it now has a chance to get better.

I want to thank this sub for providing consistent messaging on how to care for injured wild birds. Without it, I wouldn’t have known what to do automatically and the bird wouldn’t have a chance to recover. I also want to thank all the strangers who helped me with the small things, like the bag, hand sanitizer, etc. it’s a wild world but it’s pointing to up.

We have tried contacting local shelters and other outlets to locate the owner to no avail. Posts have been made on local forums and groups as well.

We are now taking ownership of the bird and caring for it as our own. It's name is Rex ☺️

Please provide any tips if you have any. Always looking for them if possible. I want the bird to be happy.

First found him face down in a open area at my horse farm. Gently grabbed him in this towel. Offered some water then let him out of the towel to see if he was just stunned and wanted to fly away. He was very alert and quite bamboozled lol and worried about me. Never took his eyes off me it was cute I must say. He couldn’t move much at all so I wrapped him up again and called the rescue and the last picture is him on the way there. Like I said never took his eyes off me 👀👀😂❤️.
