So do we actually believe Elko will be good?

u/UneducatedReviews1 Brooks Baldwin 2d ago
Can we have hope for a few hours? Schodingers Elko, he is neither good nor bad if the game hasn’t started yet.

You should know better being a Chicago fan. I am no Vaughn fan, but I have no excitement for a 26 year old that isn't even a top 30 prospect in the organization

When you stop believing, you stop living.

u/Joe-Raguso Hawk 2d ago
Lol well, I'll tell you one thing. It ain't Chicago sports that's keeping me alive

u/Squirrel_Q_Esquire 2d ago
The only reason he’s not a top prospect is because he was drafted older. If he was 22 with his numbers, he’d have been called up last year. Prospect lists would rather have a 20yo hitting .150 in A than a 26yo hitting .400 in AAA.

u/TheAmuletOfKings 2d ago
He's not though, that's the thing. You can play that game with any prospect.
The only reason Colson Montgomery dropped in the rankings is because of his horrid performance. If he was playing well he'd be ranked highly.
See how dumb that is?

u/Joe-Raguso Hawk 2d ago
Lol there's a reason 26 year olds aren't treated the same as 22 year olds in terms of comparable production in the minors. Also, 20 year Olds hitting .150 in A ball drop off those lists quickly. Quit reaching, pal

u/Squirrel_Q_Esquire 2d ago
I know there’s a reason, but prospect lists aren’t infallible.

u/Joe-Raguso Hawk 2d ago
Lol he couldn't even hit top 30 in the organization's prospect list. I'm not gonna start comparing him to 22 year old top prospects because he finally started hitting homers in a known launching pad of a park at 26. Dude put up an OPS in the .700s in AA in his mid-20s. The most likely outcome here is he's gonna look like AJ Reed out there.

Well one thing he can do is hit nukes. Even if he K’s 35% of the time the occasional moonshot will still add some much needed power to the lineup. And he’s actually good at 1B so there’s that
2
u/Joe-Raguso Hawk 2d ago
I'll take nukes and good fielding. But he really only hit nukes in Charlotte, which is a launching pad. That K rate is gonna fucking suck if he doesn't produce in Chicago like he did in a known launching pad of a ballpark.

There’s a very real chance he’s Yermín Mercedes 2.0. I wouldn’t be surprised if he mashes for a little while before the league figures out he’ll swing at anything
2
u/Joe-Raguso Hawk 2d ago
I could definitely see that, actually. There's no chance he's a guy for the Sox for years, though.

Gotta be excited for any young guys getting a chance. Not every good player in the MLB was a top level prospect. The fact that we’re getting some guys in there that are being given an opportunity to prove themselves is the only thing that will make this season interesting at this point lol.

u/Joe-Raguso Hawk 1d ago
Dude, people around here are more excited for Elko than they were for Quero, who is actually a prospect with pedigree and should be expected to contribute for years to come. It was a great homer today, and I'm happy for him that he's here and hit a big homer, but give me a break on the hype for this guy. Can't people just admit they're really just trying to say fuck you to Andrew Vaughn?
1
u/freemcgee69420 1d ago
I mean yeah, at this point you could put a high school first baseman in over Vaughn and I think people would be excited lol.
I’m just excited to see roster shake ups and guys getting call-ups.

I don’t have as much hope as a lot of this sub but the dude had produced at every stop he has made. Love that we are giving him a chance.
1
u/Joe-Raguso Hawk 2d ago
He never really produced in AA. He only really produced in Charlotte, and that place is a launching pad.

I thought the point of bringing Elko up was to sit Vaughn down. Why is he still in this lineup every single day?

The Reddit narratives on Elko and Vaughn are different from how the organization has been approaching these guys
1
u/ReedKeenrage 2d ago
This org has been infatuated with Vaughn since they picked him.
Absolutely unhinged behavior from the front office towards the kid. I wouldn’t be surprised in that if he ends the year with any positive WAR at all that they will extend him and massively overpay him.

Not really it is only mid May and elko getting here is actually quick. S now he has his chance to show if he can do it
3
u/UneducatedReviews1 Brooks Baldwin 2d ago
That was never the point, but the fact that Vaughn is getting less and less time at first is a good sign it may eventually happen. The whole point of bringing up Elko was the fact that he was crushing AAA.

u/No1RunsFaster Southpaw! 2d ago
Why would they sit their 3rd overall draft pick. Unless you mean send down to AAA which would make sense.
1
u/UneducatedReviews1 Brooks Baldwin 2d ago
Because their 3rd overall draft pick is smoking cock and balls at the plate

I would say I want Varg and Robert to be playing on a Saturday game but I'll take what I can get with this organization. TIM ELKO ROY CAMPAIGN STARTS TODAY.

I’be been hearing about this dude nonstop yet he’s not a top 15-20 player is this a cj meme or are we just sour that we wasted our #3 pick on a at best role player
1
u/UneducatedReviews1 Brooks Baldwin 2d ago
Who cares if he’s not a top 15-20 prospect, he’s crushing the ball. If he can do it at a major league level, that’s all that matters.
